Dead Space 3D Vision fix update

Dead Space 3D Vision fix update.

WARNING: THIS PATCH IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH STEAM/DISK VERSION. NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ORIGIN.

Updated 04.01.12.

By using the same method as for SKYRIM shadows fix I fixed shadows and lights in Dead Space.
Now it can be played with any convergence/separation settings with all effects exclude flares.
More screenshots (high convergence !)

This fix required last  version of the DLL (updated today).

Updated:
- fixed flicked shadows/lights.
- shadows works when turn off 3d mode
- more halos fixed

You should re-download and replace all files if you're using previous fix(include dll !).

Download:

Fixed shaders.
DLL.

How to install:
Place d3d9.dll, DX9Settings.ini and "ShaderOverride" folder to the game directory ("\Games\Dead Space\" where "Dead Space.exe" located). Replace old files with new if you used previous version of the fix. It's very important to use latest version of the DLL.

Steam MAY crash. If it does click here

  1. I remember when I first played this game in 2d. I enjoyed it a lot. Then I got my 3d system and was really excited. It wasnt bad, still better then 2d but had to take away shadows(don't remember the other negatives maybe low depth or convergence). Shadows are so important in a game like in a "horror-like game". It sets the mood and you just feel like something is missing. Will definetly give this game another playthrough now. Ty.

  2. This doesn't seem to work with my retail version. The shadows seem wrong and text during the intro moves really quickly between two horizontally offset positions. Have you seen this? Is it just because I'm using the retail version?
    Cheers!
    ps. Bow before Helix :-)

  3. Ignore previous comment! I was being a bit thick as the text effect is part of the game!!
Turning off DOF and Flares fixed the other issue.

    1. At the very end of Dead Space chapter 11 when you enter the hanger to place the marker in the shuttle there is an enourmous rectangle floating in the air. It looks like the background from the end of the hanger is rendering at the wrong distance. Any ideas on how this could be fixed? Other than that the game is flawless in 3d. Your work is incredible, I cannot thank you enough. Do you take donations for any of this? Best Regards, GB

  5. Thanks for your mods, they are awesome!

I got a problem with this game:
when one first has to use the stasis gun, the game freezes and graphics crash.
GTX 275 with 301.24, maybe it is the new DLL cuasing this crash.

    1. Could be any number of things. Try it without the d3d9.dll and see if it still crashes.

    2. No crash without the dll, I'll upgrade my GPU at the end of May and won't have much time till then, in June it will be time to play! (planned to play through DS1 singleplayer etc) If your game runs fine with the new dll etc I think it is best if I test it with the new card, gonna post here whether it still crashes or things run fine. PS: I dont use the Steam or Origin version, bought the normal DVD edition. Thx for the fast reply!

I am not the author(helix) though I know a number of people went through dead space 1 without issue though I believe it was steam/origin. You can take you cd key and add it to origin with it.

    4. Sorry for the delay!
The issue has gone with a 680 and 304.79, so everything is working its way.
Thanks again for this awesome project!!!

    5. Thanks for getting back to us about it.
Its appreciated, so if someone else runs into issue we can tell them that driver works. Most people don't get back to us. Thanks.

Hope you enjoy the game, Helix made them amazing. Dead Space 2 is on alot of peoples top games list(3D).

  11. Hey guys, thanks a lot for another great patch! Works (almost) perfectly, even with graphics maxed out! (just a few minor glitches I won't even mention here)

Just a question: is it possible to set the depth to more than 100%, like, is there a setting in a .ini file or somewhere that would allow it? (I know this was possible in some other games)

Not that it's directly related to your patch, which again is near perfect. It's just that I like to play with the monitor real close and see the objects at 'real size' (like I watch through a window), and I didn't find any setting for convergence/depth that allows it.

    Thanks anyway!!

  12. I needed to use the current release DLL not the one linked here or shadows were not rendering at depth.
    d3d9.dll dated September 6, 2013.
Same Shader Override from the link here.

I am using Nvidia driver version 331.65 is probably why.

  13. Maybe in doing something wrong, but still seems screwy. With double shadow, cant turn up 3D but only a little. i dropped all listed files in the folder and still nothing, is there something i am supposed to edit in the dx9.ini ?

    3. Unfortunately I can confirm. Origin broke the patch.
      Disk version/steam version - Work

      Origin - Does not work.

    4. I've messed around with this quite a bit ... probably more than I should have(but it's one of my favorite games) ... figured out the hard way there's actually 2 separate sets of CRCs here, Origin & Steam(Disc?) ... anyway the 'reason' it's not working with Origin is the 'Origin In Game' overlay, either disable it or don't run the game from within the Origin app, make a shortcut to, or double-click, the Dead Space.exe directly and then the fix works just fine. :)

One thing I did notice when going back and forth between the Steam and Origin versions is that in both versions the fixed VS4119BCD0 is broken(?), my last save game is right before the final boss there's a ton of blood and gore on the floor and it's not present with the fix ... I 'disabled' the fixed shader and the gore and that area looked ok to me, not sure what/where it was fixing originally.

I didn't play it through with the fix, I played it with the low depth high convergence 'fix' ... could be due to using 337.50 drivers, they aren't very friendly with this game ... they also make the text(VS6AA1F0F6(PS03DAFBAB?)) in certain areas(eg. intro credits) 'shake' left and right, setting convergence so they're aligned helps.

I did check the Dead Space profile and as far as I could tell it matches the older versions I have saved(both nip and txt format)

      Delete
    5. ... well make that VS4119BCD0(Origin) and VSC981270C(Steam) are the missing gore ... uncommenting lines 39,46 & 48 seemed to be the very least I could 'reenable' to get the gore working again.

Oh and the latest drivers(337.88) still have shaking text syndrome ...

      Delete
    6. It shakes with steam version?

      Delete
    7. Yeah, just the text ... pretty sure it's driver related, happens with/without the fix/dll and doesn't happen with 3D Vision toggled off. It's alternating views erratically but only on the text(shader) ... if by chance the convergence is set so it's aligned(2D) you wouldn't see it at all but at the default settings it's there on both versions.

*oops ... made a new comment instead of a reply ... and deleted comments apparently don't get completely removed ...

    2. Don't think anyone has tried it before on GOG version. You should experiment with different versions of HelixMod dll, especially debug ones that show red text and thus demonstrate HelixMod loads.

      Delete
    3. I just tried the latest debug .dll and it loads red text at the top, but the shaders are still not rendering right in stereo. It looks the same as it does when loading the game in 3d without helixmod installed.

      Delete
    4. OK, that's a good start. That means HelixMod is loading, and you are in the right directory. Also check to see if the Log.txt is created, and if there are any errors in there. Might also be worth running as admin, because this is super old game.

Doesn't look like the GOG version materially changed the game, like at the shader level. If the shader crc's don't match, that will cause the fix to not work, but doesn't seem like the problem here. Maybe try hunting shaders that would be fixed, like shadows, and see if the crc numbers match in the ShaderOverrides folder.

      Delete
    5. Log.txt file basically contains alternating entries of:

"luaL_loadfile cannot open PSscript.lua: No such file or directory"

      and

"luaL_loadfile cannot open VSscript.lua: No such file or directory"

I will also try the crc checks as well.

      Delete
    6. @bo3b - I went through all the Vertex shaders in game using the debug dll and none of the CRC values match up to the CRC values for the VS in the ShaderOveride folder. I guess the CRC values are different in the GOG version of DeadSpace.

      Delete
    7. Is there an easy way to get the correct CRC values without having to find and dump each appropriate shader?

      Delete
    8. OK, that explains why the fix doesn't work on this version, thanks for doing the legwork.

There's no easy way to make it match, but if you were motivated, you could dump out all the shaders in the GOG version, and then hand match the code to the examples from the Steam fix. Maybe try one key one to start, like the shadows, and see if you can find matching code. It won't be identical, which is why the crc changed, but I'd be super surprised if it changed much. If you can cross correlate the crc in GOG version to fix code from Steam fix, you can paste in the fix code to GOG version, and I'd expect it to work.

  22. Hello, I have a problem with Dead Space. When loading the game, it doesn't start 3D vision. I have the game in fullscreen and looked into NVIDIA inspector which didn't help. Any ideas? I'm using the Steam version.

    1. On Win10 I needed to Disable Fullscreen Optimizations on the Dead Space.exe(Properties>Compatibility>Disable Fullscreen Optimizations) and use/swap out the HeliXmodLauncher/Injection version(HeliXmodLauncher.exe/helixmod.dll) of Helixmod(Delete d3d9.dll and add the line DefModuleName=Dead Space.exe to the DX9Settings.ini) to get 3D to kick in...

    2. So after I installed the fix via 3DFM, I had a black screen, sound was in the background but no image. I did what TsaebehT suggested - it pushed it through but then 3D was broken in the game (shadows, flares etc.)
I downlaoded the zip file from this post and extracted it to the folder and - voila! Everything is perfect - no need to modify or delete any files and no need to apply the "Disable fullscreen optimizations" on the exe. So I don't know if the 3DFM has the wrong fix or what, but this one on this page works - Win10 1909, nV 45.06

    3. The black screen bug happens on 144 Hz monitors and having set 144hz refresh rate ingame. With the non-injector version the game is stuck with the black screen then. There are 2 ways to fix this:

      A) Start the game in 2D mode first and make sure you set 120hz refresh rate. Then launch in 3D.
      B) Install injector version like TsaebehT did and disable fullscreen optimizations. Then 3D even works when 144hz are set ingame because the Nvidia manages to successfully force 120Hz again.

For me both the old fix and the updated fix work. However I have to alt + tab once out of the game and back in - otherwise the game renders 2D. This happens even when no 3D fix is installed. Dead Space 2 and 3 have similar bugs for me: without alt + tab 3D is broken. Funnily those are the only games I experienced this bug - so not very likely it's something related to my system.

  23. Hi guys.
I have a situation like this:
    - I have three Asus 144 Hz displays + two GTX 1070 Ti video cards in Surround mode, Windows 10 operating system, the graphics driver is installed via 3D Fix Manager - version 425.31.
    - I installed the Dead Space 1 version Steam.
    - The game runs perfectly and plays in 3D Vision mode on three screens in Surround mode. At the same time, there are bugs with shadows and light sources.
    - With the help of 3D Fix Manager, I downloaded and installed all HeliX fixes to the root folder of the game (I placed the ShaderOverride folder, d3d9.dll and DX9Settings.ini files in the Dead Space folder, where the Dead Space.exe file is located.)
    - the result is as follows: the game works fine in 3D Vision mode on one screen (resolution 1920 x 1080 x 120Hz), bugs with shadows and light sources are gone. However, switching to three screens (6040 x 1080 x 120Hz) disables 3D Vision mode and only 2D mode works.
    - I tried to collapse the game with Alt + Tab keys and expand it again - it doesn't help.
    - I tried to make changes to the properties of the Dead Space.exe file, deleted the d3d9.dll file, entered lines into the DX9Settings.ini file - different configurations. This only disables the work of the HeliX fix, the game behaves at the same time as before installing the HeliX fix - it works well in 3D Vision both on one screen and on three screens, but I keep returning bugs with shadows and light sources.

I have a question - is it possible to make the HeliX fix in 3D Vision work on three screens in Surround mode?

Several years ago I played Dead Space in 3D Vision mode on three screens in Surround mode. I used the HeliX fix. Everything works perfectly. But I had another computer - one GTX 590 video card and Windows 7 operating system.

Perhaps the HeliX fix has some incompatibility with Windows 10 and two GTX 1070 Ti video cards?

I also have a problem with an oval mouse in three-screen mode - the sensitivity is three times higher horizontally than vertically. Previously, I had another mouse, where the driver could change the sensitivity separately for the X and Y axes. Now I have a different mouse. I tried the WideScreen Fixer utility - it doesn't help.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you guys. I'm waiting for an answer. It is possible to pay for the solution of the problem through PayPal.

    1. Hi guys.
I will supplement the description of their research.
The oval mouse problem has been resolved.
Download and install the mouse fix file dinput8.dll in the root directory of the game.
However, I still have the problem of three screens.
On one screen, the game runs in 3D with and without Helix fix.
The Helix fix removes shadow and light bugs.
However, starting the game in 3D on three screens is possible only when the properties of the Dead Space.exe file are changed - check the box "Disable full screen optimization" and delete the d3d9.dll file. Fix Helix stops working.
      Can anyone please help me?
      Thanks everyone.

  24. Anyone have interest in using dgvoodoo2 to convert to dx11 and then make a dx11 fix for the game using 3dmigoto or geo-11? The current fix is not 100% and maybe the newer tools would allow things like the flares to be fixed?
