Mass Effect 3 - 3D Vision fix update

Mass Effect 3 - 3D Vision fix update.

*Click for more videos/downloads*

What's new:
Newest Update:
-Self Shadows fixed.
Last Update:
- flares and target boxes are separated now;
- improved position of target boxes;
- you can show hide flares effects by "," key - on and "." key - off;
- 3 custom profiles for 3D interface (-0.2 - 0 + 0.2, i.e. pop out, flat , deep). "Y" -  key pop up HUD, "U" key - standard flat HUD, "I" - deeper HUD(default flat);

Old keys:
"K" and "L" - change croshair/markers/scopes deep.

Know issues:
- Text for ammo count of flamethrower still at the HUD depth;
- self shadows doesn't look good at depth convergence/separation values;
- flares on galaxy map at wrong position(but you can hide them when you're entering on the map).

Also you can customize 3D interface profiles by changing this values in DX9Settings.ini file:

//interface and text switcher
[Preset5]
//-0.2 Y key
Const4 = 0xBE4CCCCD
// u key
[Preset6]
Const4 = 0x00000000

//i key
[Preset7]
//0.2
Const4 = 0x3e4ccccd

You can use this online converter for float to HEX conversion.

How to install:
Place d3d9.dll, DX9Settings.ini and "ShaderOverride" folder to the game directory ("\Mass Effect 3\Binaries\Win32"). Replace old files with new if you used previous version of the fix. It's very important to use latest version of the DLL.
Don't forget to turn off Origin in-game setting before starting game. Or it will crash.
Requires driver version 306.02 or later

Fixed shaders.
DLL.

If you wish to remove Depth of Field/Blur please click this link.
Do NOT use depth of field = False unless you wish to remove all post processing effects.

    1. I installed nvidia driver 306.02 recently, just wanted to mention that your fixes are working like a boss on that driver version, it even mentions "updated compatibility with community fixes" we all know who that is, good work HeliX.

    2. Yea, I saw it ty. Gonna give it another week before taking down the notes. Unfortunately it still says in game unrecommended = /

    and move the " d3d9.dll + DX9Settings.ini + ShaderOverride" to win32 folder
    and started the game
    simply ... nothing happen !!!
    the game just run as usual !! without 3D

    3. Wierd. I had same bug. It has nothing to do with Helix's Fix though(I had it happen without fix as well). Game renders in 2d with 3d vision active. Not sure how I fixed it though.

    Maybe it has a broken profile ?

    1. I am using 301 driver(680 video card) but I am not using the 3d vision profile. It works fine now but for a time it rendered in 2d(I could still adjust depth bars still showed up but did nothing) even WITHOUT d3d9.dll. It wasnt related to your fix.
      Your new fixes are great btw. Game looks phenomenal.

  6. Sorry being thick, don't think I had the correct combo of shaders / release installed. Thanks for this brillant mod. After finishing Mass Effect 3 I think I will revisit Dead Space 1/2 in 3D vision. Great work!

  7. Is there any way to know if it's actually active? Using hotkeys shows no visible effects, the HUD is still in 2D, so I'm assuming it's not active, but I'd like to make sure. I'm using a pre-295.73 driver, and correctly installed the files. The only issue I've had is that I had to download and place D3DX9_43.dll in the Mass Effect 3\binaries\Win32 directory. Running Windows 7, 64bit.
    Thanks a lot

    1. Updating DirectX fixed the issue; I believe it was partially functional before the update, as I saw some changes/improvements, but the keys (and presumably, other changes) only worked after updating. It can be done using this installer: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35.

      Love the fix so far.

      theres the link, the one named this is my optimal settings is the one with the issues
      the settings on that is is 50% depth.
      the other photo is the depth turned all the way down, but convergence turned up.

      Delete
    3. I see what you mean. Its called fog ghosting. Where a game is written for 3d gaming it has that issue. However this issue was resolved a long time ago. I can play 100% depth and high convergence and not have this issue. Will take screenshot later but I play at 100% depth and pretty good convergence.
      Please delete your d3d9.dll dx9settings.ini and shaderoverride folder in your \Mass Effect 3\Binaries\Win32 folder.
      Then download and extract https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/MassEffect3.zip to that same folder. Layout should look like this.
      \Mass Effect 3\Binaries\Win32\d3d9.dll
      \Mass Effect 3\Binaries\Win32\dx9settings.ini
      \Mass Effect 3\Binaries\Win32\shaderoverride\

      Let me know if that does/doesnt solve your issue.

      I know it has nothing to due with my display, ASUS VG78H, because your images appear perfectly.
      I may try to reinstall ME3 and see if that helps.

    6. Its definetly NOT your display. Since I see it as well. Uninstalling will not fix anything unless you remove settings. Heres what we can try instead. Download this file here. I modified some of my settings for maximum 3d viewing. You will need to adjust your resolution afterwards.

      Delete
    8. when you mentioned the driver, i then did a clean install of the current beta drivers and applied the NVIDIA inspector fix and now it works perfectly. thanks lol

      One more question, I know thta this is something I should know
      Whats the difference between depth and convergence? Like a depth of 50 with convergence or a depth of 100 with less convergence?

      Delete
    9. Convergence is Positive space and negative space. Negative space you can refer to as depth. Positive space is pop out. When you increase convergence you increase popout. Put you hand 6 inches from face then slowly bring it closer. Thats the effect of convergence.

      Depth is emulation of length you can see into screen. I run and sit around 5 feet away. at 100% depth I can see maybe 5 feet into screen. If I change it 50% its 2.5 feet into screen. If depth doesnt have as great of an effect its either due to screen size/distance you are sitting from screen.

      I like to take off 3d glasses and adjust convergence onto character in 3rd person games so it appears 2d with glasses off. Everything past that point should popout. In first person games I go as close to a character/enemy possible then try to make them as close to 2d as possible. This makes weapons and close camera scenes pop-out.

      Anymore questions contact eqzitara on nvidia forums.

  9. First let me thank you for the awesome job you guys have done.
    Just finished ME1 and 2 with your fixes and started ME3 .. however i am having some issues.
    Like someone mentioned above when i keep the dynamic lits on from the menu and turn off the selfshadow in shader i get some rendering issues with smoke/fog : the characters seem to be rendered on top of that
    http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/p3numbra/image/4fa7c8e8378501c343000001/
    http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/p3numbra/album/4fa7c839378501cf43000009/

    When i disable dynamic shadows completeley i get another oddity
    shadows on
    http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/p3numbra/image/4fa7c8193785013043000004/
    shadows off
    http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/p3numbra/image/4fa7c88b378501e643000001/
    this last one seems to have nothing to do with helix fix ... it does the same even after i remove the dll/shader override.

    I tried multiple drivers .. no am with 301.24 beta
    295.73 worked fine/same as the newest beta
    296.10 had issues irrespective of ME3 profile deleted with nvinspector
    Also i suppose i am with the newest version of the fix ...i dld them from this page.

    Has anyone encountered this issue?

    Again hats off for the work done on the fix.

    1. Looked at your pictures but I am a bit confused because I didnt even notice those issues but I think I had them.

      I think its related to fog(fog is sometimes a lighting effect). See if it happens outside citadel. I am pretty sure this happens to everyone but it wasnt a big deal outside of a few select areas. I think I just tuned it out.

      Anywho leave dynamic shadows ON.(game needs it which is why you had last issue)
      Turn off self shadows if you adjust your convergence at all.

    2. As the dlc uses new environments there are also new issues: In the last level on/under the sea I had the usual issues with ghosting caused by fog. Here are the VS and PS: http://www16.zippyshare.com/v/84980452/file.html There had been also issues with ghosting and reflections in the following dialog scene. I didn't catch these shaders as I didn't have the time to do that (the last savepoint is some minutes before and I couldn't pause).

    Installed the fix: looks great! I'm at the beginning, but the crosshair seems off. I have to aim next to the target to hit it. I do not have this problem in 2D.

    1. Crosshairs are static but enemy position is dynamic so it cant ever be 100% accurate.
      There are two different crosshair options. Try K/L and it MAY help.

    2. Hi,

      I'll try that. But when I'm in 2D and I aim on something (not an enemy) my bullet impact exactly where my crosshair is. In 3D, my bullets impact exactly a inch or so next to my crosshair consistantly. I installed the extended cut DLC. Could that have caused this? I cannot de-install the DLC.

  33. In case anyone is playing in 3D Surround using WideScreen Fixer (for Surround support) and the crosshair does not line up do the following:

    - Find the 44D42C54.txt vertex shader
    - change this line "def c200, 0.8, 1.0, 0.0625, 0.0"
    with
    //2.4 is 0.8x3 crosshair separation
    def c200, 2.4, 1.0, 0.0625, 0.0

    So now the crosshair will work properly.

I think is not Helix mod's fault, since I have removed d3d9.dll, testing "default" 3D, and ambient occlusion don't work. So it seems 3d overrides somehow nvidia inspector tweaks...
    Somebody is able to play with 3d vision AND ambient occlusion enabled? Is this possible?

    3. I guess I can't really call them a box, its 4 red segments on each quadrant of an NPC as you are targeting them, indicating your current target. This used to not be an issue, even in surround. But now the 4 segments don't line up with each corner of the npc.

    5. I figured that file might work and attempted to edit the .08 to 24 like the cross-hair fix but did not seem to do anything so I put it back. After installing your file eqzitara it basically removes all the text in the game, so sadly that's not going to work.

    6. After getting to a point in combat however that line "def c202, 0, 0, 0, 0" does remove the target box's however, but also makes most in-game text disappear or awkward, like "P a et" random missing characters.

  36. Hi

    I'm having trouble with extreme ghosting when playing the Mass Effect series. I see every image in ME1 and ME3 tripple. Strange thing is, when playing Tomb Raider, the 3D is marvelous and without ghosting.

    At first ME3 was nice to play in 3D after the Helix fix was installed (thanks a lot for that!), but then something went wrong and it all went to hell (maybe after an update?). I tried a clean install of the Nvidea drivers, didn't work. Then I read something about disabling enhanced USB2.0 (seemed to work for lots of people) or changing to 100Hz refresh, doesn't work. I don't know what else to try, maybe someone could give some advise?

    best regards

    1. Ghosting has to do with your display. Only things that could be done about it is adjusting your contrast/brightness and reducing your depth. When something bright overlaps something dark is when it happens.

      Tomb Raider doesnt really have heavy contrast. Mass Effect is "space"/lensflares/etc. Lots of stuff that are blacks to whites.

    2. Hi Eqzitara

      Thank you for the quick reply. You say it has to do with the display, but I read lots of topics about the benq xl2420t in which most say the crosstalk is minimum and everyone is really satisfied. In my case, its really extreme and I can't seem to fix it. I'm sure it was better before, but at some point it just got bad. Reinstaling drivers of screen and GPU don't help.

      So you believe nothing can be done about it? Cause otherwise Mass Effect in 3D is awesome...

      best regards

    3. I didn't say nothing can be done. Can adjust contrast.

      I don't know if there is a special circumstance involved but its more often then not just ghosting. It may of been that it was just as bad before but you didn't run into any situations where colors contrasted as much. Just adjust contrast and see.

    blubberduck86 here, late as usual. :'p
    I am having trouble disabling the origin overlay as it wont let me uncheck the box that allows in game origin, And ME3 wont run with your righteous fix, Any suggestions? Oh and Eq? I finally have a 3D Vision 2 kit and Asus VG 248 QE 24" Monitor. OMG what a difference from my 40" 24hz 3DTV Play! I guess in the case of 3D SIZE MATTERS NOT!

      Delete your d3d9.dll
      extract files into mass effect 3 folder.
      launch helixmodlauncher let it run in background.
      Launch me3.

  38. Hi all, i'm trying to get Mass Effect 3 working with this patch but it doesn't. I'm using 337.88 nVidia driver on Windows 8.1. The game doesn't display 3D image... i can play other 3d Vision supported games with no problems at all

    1. Download a different driver. Do clean install.
      If theres no 3D image its not related to mod. Its hard to imagine having trouble getting a UE3 game to work but thats the only thing I can think of.

    2. Other 3D vision games are working fine and i can see 3D. It's ME3 the only one that it's not working, it only works in 2D

    3. I understand. Same advice applies though. It sometimes happens ad a clean install is only solution.

      Can use downsampling which is pretty much the same.

      No ambient occlusion but the few times I tried it even in 2D was bugged tbh.

  43. that's ok even the new version works after pressing ok 20 odd times lol, and now it is loading without having to press ok at all thanks very much for that quick tip, it would have been one of those things that would have bugged me for ages I just assumed that the error message ment it wouldn't work so I was just ending the task rather than pressing ok multiple times ...cheers again!

  44. You can use a AUTOHOTKE script for toggle the UI to screen depth while holding down shift key for the combat UI and bring it back to deph if you release the shift key. This helps not getting whired of the mouse in screen depth:

    #NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
    ; #Warn ; Enable warnings to assist with detecting common errors.
    SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.
    SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory.

    $LShift::
    send {u}
    send {LShift down}
    KeyWait, LShift
    send {i}
    send {LShift up}

  46. Figured I'd revisit this game recently, any idea why I get lots of weird horizontal flickering?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No idea. Might be worth reinstalling drivers using DDU. Don't think horizontal has anything to with our fix.

  47. @ Sean C, I'm having the same problem, even after using DDU. If I remove the fix and run the game with 3dVision there is no flickering.
    Latest drivers.

    first of all, ty for al the work you do for all of us...you are all great :)

    ME 3 is the only game for me that dosen't run in 3D, i saw that are some others with this problem...have anyone found a fix for this? I've tried with clean instal/reinstal/driver reinstal/ with my old save/without save's....with ant without DLC's/Mod's

  49. I don't have the game so cannot test. This page gets low traffic, so you might want to post in a 3D Vision thread, and see if other people have it working or not.

    Use this thread.

  52. Good day. Not sure what I did wrong but Mass Effect 2 and 3 (Origin) works great in 3D for me with 1 screen, but once I do Nvidia 3D surround, the eyes get inverted and I need to flip the glasses, that can become uncomfortable after w while. Has anyone else noticed this?
