Mirror's Edge Patch Complete

MIRROR'S EDGE

Updated:
05/25/13 Made changes based on Mana84's Mass Effect code.
Shadows should now render perfect, remaining issues should be fixed.

A year ago this was one of my first "real" patches and game needed an patch update desperately so I did. If you have any issues please list Chapter/Checkpoint so I can look at it. If interested in my optimizations/review check my blog post HERE

Instructions
Install version 1.0.1
Turn OFF nvidia laser sight
Options->Game settings->Reticule->Weapon only

INSTALL TO ..\Mirror's Edge\Binaries\
Depth of field OFF version: DOFOFFshaderoverride.zip
Depth of field ON version: DOFONshaderoverride.zip

If Game Crashes on Launch
Right click on MirrorsEdge.exe . Click compatiblity tab.
Check run this program for compatibility mode: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
If still crashes GO HERE

If You Experience Heavy Ghosting.
C:\Users\eqz\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config\tdengine.ini
Change depthoffield=True
to
Depthoffield=false

This will disable all Post Processing[including depth of field] which will effectively remove the bright coloring at the cost of visual aesthetic but should make it playable. I separated it from other post processing in my patch but you will have to do this if your display can not handle the bright contrast.

3D TV Play user that can't get game to initiate in 3D.
As a followup in case anyone else is having trouble with 3DTV play. I tried a program called refreshlock

      Higher then that?
      If its shadows on characters. Its not installed right.
      If its shadows on ground you need to reduce convergence.

    2. I fixed the issue . I turned down the contrast 20% this pushed back the image I was seeing ! Looks great now . Only 2 issues remain now . When jumping on to a rope I grab it but then fall through it ! Another issue is opening doors . Punch through a door only to drop off the map on the other side lol . Found that one funny . This happens off and on .

    3. First of all, thenk you so much for your work.
      Without people like you fixing things for others 3D Vision would be a joke.

      There are so few games out there with an excellent rating it's embarassing. Who could even play one of those games rated "good" by nvidia? Either it works or it doesn't, and you can't play a game with broken shadows.

      Anyway, thanks for fixing this!
      Please keep your amazing work up :)

  15. Great fix as always, thanks. Just a shame that the game's art style makes for alot of ghosting.

    1. Go into C:\Users\eqz\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config\tdengine.ini
      Change depthoffield=True
      to
      Depthoffield=false

      Might sound like Im making it up but that will disable postprocessing. It hurts visuals but you will see.

  16. Looks perfect in 3D (except for a little ghosting) !!
    Big thanks to Helix, Eqzitara, and Mana84.
    One of my favorite games. I never tire of re-playing Mirror's Edge.

    1. Ghosting from display or effects?

      Delete
    2. Like are we talking about smoke, water, what have you.

      Or color contrast ghosting.

  17. I have a crosstalky monitor, but reducing brightness and contrast a little helped a lot. It's still there, but not nearly as bad. Better a little ghosting than no post-processing.

    1. And people wonder why I rant when people do depthoffield=false and they dont notice it makes game look like garbage. It happens in ever mass effect game cause people don't like DOF in 3D [I don't but I physically ripped it from game]

  18. Just tried this newer version, and it worked perfectly, thanks!

  19. The shadows are always broken for me, on both the ground and characters, or at least the character in the training stage. The reflection on the title screen is broken too (assuming that was meant to be fixed). Though when I try using the DOFoff version it does remove the DOF so clearly the mod is doing something.

    I also have to use this to get the game to run with 3DTV play so I don't know if maybe it's causing a conflict:
    helixmod.blogspot.com/2013/02/chiris-force-certain-resolutionhertz.html

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Its definetly not working. Ive never tested the resolution hertz tool besides confirming it works since I am not a tv play user.

      You definetly need to do something since they both use D3D9.DLL's though.
      Could try this. Rename chiri's d3d9.dll to res.dll
      Install fix.
      http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2012/08/guidehow-to-install-helixmod-game-fixes.html
      Follow that guide and It "might" work. Couldnt say for sure.

      I don't know why this game would have an issue with 3d tv play and other ue3 games wouldnt tbh. If you want to try
      bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE
      set to FALSE instead.
      And delete chiri's fix and just use my fix and see if 3d tv play iniates.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, I was already using the res.dll thing.

      And if I don't use chiri's fix then the game basically just crashes (or is only sound). bSmoothFrameRate doesn't seem to change that.

      Delete
    3. No idea, it probably doesnt work in conjunction with helix's wrapper. You can try to contact chiri on nvidia forums if he can make it proxy other wise you have to see if you can force 59HZ[I believe thats what you have to do with tv play. Check if its a resolution/hertz in settings]

      Delete
    4. As a followup in case anyone else is having trouble with 3DTV play. I tried a program called refreshlock instead of the chiri fix and now it works flawlessly.

      And have to throw in a big thanks for this awesome fix, since this is probably my favorite game for 3D so far.

  20. Btw I had the crashing problems and didn't find the XP SP3 compatibility mode to help, but disabling the Origin in-game overlay worked for me, so you might want to add that as a potential fix for the Origin version.

    The game still has a lot of crosstalk though on my Asus VG236H and the DoF fix didn't make much noticeable difference. Guess my screen just isn't quick enough at some colour transitions.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for the patch, but even with DOF false/OFF, contrast reduced, origin overlay disabled, I'm still experiencing heavy ghosting. Doesn't look anything like your sample screenshot:(
    Any suggestions?
