Dead Island Riptide

The engine used in this game it's a total mess for 3D, so i did the best I could.

Fix:
- Crosshair 3D
- HUD 3D (sadly this game it's a total mess with shaders for this, so HUD and Crosshair are in the same depth).
- Effects (Smoke, Fire, vapor, others) now in the right depth....originally in 2D.
- Others

Issues Remaining:
- Some water reflections, really minor.
- Some distant shadows are a little off.

Recommended:
-  Disable Motion Blur, DOF, adjust FOV. Also if you want you can remove crosshair. In the Nvidia Thread HERE it's all information (and others mods).

Instructions:
- Extract the .zip content where .exe is located
- Use this values for Shadows in "Video.scr":

Shadows("High")
ShadowMapSize(256)
SpotShadowMapSize(4096)

I use for aiming "P" key (lower convergence), because i use Xbox controller (bind to Left trigger with Xpadder). You can change that key in the dx9settings.ini file under [KEY0], Key...."501" value is second mouse button.

Thanks to Joohan for testing!!

    3. I don't have the game, but others users try it and game crash (i don't know where they put the DLL).
btw i think the crash is related to other things, not locations of the files (i can be wrong).

  3. @DHR: Dude, I'm in the process of *trying* to fix the first Dead Island and I'm that close to give up. Damn shadows!!!

That said, impressive work. Thanks for this.

    1. I never played the first one, but for comments i read shadows in that game are a total mess....maybe you can try using the values i post for shadows in "video.scr"....also if you put ShadowMapSize(1)and potShadowMapSize(1) you can disable shadows.

      Thanks!!

    2. They are same engine though shadows may appear a bit different I doubt anything else is.

If you are fixing with helix debugger, the headers in Riptide should match Dead Island most likely.

    3. @DHR: I'll try to apply your tweaks & fixes to the first and see what gives. Thanks.

@eqzitara: I just realized that you had already started a Dead Island fix but isn't listed in "Gamelist".

      Any reason why?

  5. Just to give people an option to use a different way of using lower convergence on ironsights by using the middle mouse button. Instead of using the value 501 in the DX9Settings.ini (which is for the right mouse button), use the value 502. This enables ironsights for the middle mouse button but you'll also have to press the right mouse button to go into "aim mode". This might feel a bit strange a first but you'll get used to it quite quickly (or at least I did). I made this like so because in the game you mainly use melee weapons and if you have mapped the right mouse button (501) for low convergence, every time you use a melee weapon to throw it goes into the lower convergence mode which makes it a bit awkward. So by using the method I mentioned, you'll be able to use the right mouse button normally for throwing melee weapons and when using guns and you would like to aim with ironsights, just press the right and middle mouse buttons simultaneously and use the left mouse button to shoot. I've played the game quite a lot and I've still only gotten one gun (a revolver) and I still rarely use it so this method at least for me feels more suitable. Maybe later on there'll be more guns in the game but by then you should be used to aiming like this. All of this is of course just a suggestion which I found convenient so I thought to mention it here. Again a huge thanks to DHR for the fix and hard work and also thanks for acknowledging my name in the testing!

  6. Hi, Great work on dead island riptide! Love it. was wondering if more could be done for the original dead island? It really needs 3d crosshair (I can't disable 2d crosshair and cet confused when 2d crosshair and laser sight appear simultaniously) would also like lighting not to make my eyes bleed. I would much appreciate this if it is possile, I know the shaders are a real mess with this game so I am not holding my breath but I would LOVE to play this game in 3D! Thanks in advance and I wish you all the best. you are the 3d god!

  7. Hey just bought dead island riptide during the steam sale. Im having a few issues with this fix though. I went into the video.scr file in note pad and changed the shadow quality and shadow mapsize, but i dont have a spotshadowmapsize line to change. Also even after changing the shadowmapsize to 256 it still says 512 in the ingame options, idk if that makes a difference though. Also is there anyway to set the hud back farther? i still have doubled crosshairs. I had the same issue on farcry and skyrim but someone gave me a number to put into the dxsettings file and it fixed it. I just cant remember what the number was or where to put it. Thanks to anyone who can help.

    1. probably me, but he doesnt code it like helix does.
Its not my game and I dont know how many hud shaders it has. I found one real quick so I could tell you what to do though. The MIGHT all be labeled hud.

      go to shaderoverride/vertexshaders/
      Open the txt's

      def c220, 0.6, 0, 0.0625, 0

look for the c220 value that has "0.6"
      change it to "0.75"

    2. There are 6 HUD shaders.... i labeled "HUD #" in the first line of code, you can search (shader are from 04-27-2013)....you can edit those shaders and change the value eqzitara mention.

    3. Also make the Video.scr read-only

  8. Also it says
    Recommended:
    - Disable Motion Blur, DOF, adjust FOV.

I dont have any of those options in the ingame settings. where do i go about changing those?
