Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter [Update 06/25]

Update:
Reflections
Fixed:
Shadows, lighting, effects, non-sli issues, etc
Removed:
Fake shadows[Circle shadows. Casted shadows remain]
Issues remaining:
Shadows are very accurate but may appear off at high convergence setting.

Full HD series is now complete. Should be very enjoyable after patch but it still may have an issue here and there. Id rate it around a excellent, can either use no crosshair or nvidia laser sight. If this is a problem this patch is probably not for you. I talked about it on SS3 but this game came out in 2009 and actually looks better then games coming out now [2013] which is a shocker for a indie game.
Demo is available on Steam.

Install to TWO LOCATIONS. /Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter/ + /Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter/BIN/

  2. Hi, I was wondering if you could look into a 3d fix for the game "Postal III" a much underrated game that needs a fix for things like its 2d crosshair and glitches associated with water some shadows and some of the effects.

    1. Np. Its kind of cool modding games because you run into games you normally wouldn't. The serious sam series blew my mind. Seriously [Pun intended?], 1+2 looks better then games comming out today on average and BFE looks like a AMD/NVIDIA sponsored game. Like I've never seen that level of optimization, options in a game before. Not only that it shows which optimizations effect GPU/CPU/MEMORY. Wow.

BTW, if your on 2 I updated it.

  4. OK, Sorry. I may have asked before... where is the first location to install the pack? I know where the .bin folder is...but where else does it go?

BTW I got this recently as part of a Humble Bundle pack that includes Hard Reset. It is 3D Vision ready and it is a totally rad take on the oldschool shooter, same guys who just released the Shadow Warrior reboot.

  6. OK, here's one... How do you get a game like this, like many, which has an apparently uneditable quick save key to not conflict with the Nvidia save config/convergence keys? Often I can map Nvidia keys to alt + shift + ctl + key to avoid conflicts (which sometimes requires a Twister game of fingers when trying to also hold right mouse with some games ;-) ), but often games like this do not seem to recognize you are pressing modifiers, and will not save the config. Rather, it saves a quick save and seems to discard my convergence settings.

    1. Nvidia control panel->set up stereoscopic 3d->set keyboard shortcuts [check mark in advanced]
      Reassign keys.
If it helps I assign Depth to F1 / F2
      Convergence to + / -
Havent had any issues with those keys being used for whatever.

    2. err convergence I use = / - [i just think of it as +]

Make sure you don't have anything running in background/ game works without fix [d3d9.dll]

    2. There hasnt been an update to game in many years, if there were any problems someone else would of have had it as well tbh.

  8. yeah its the steam game.

i will try deleting d3d9.dll from BOTH locations. (ini too?)

  9. its the d3d9 dll thats crashing not only the game but also windows7x64 here...(cant even access the taskmanager)
what nvidia driver version are you using? (if you are)

    1. Newest, but driver doesnt matter.
This is only happening to you, so you probably have some application open that is conflicting with it.

Go through this list and make sure none of these are open.

    2. I will do this for you this time but you need to find what is causing the conflict from link above next time this happens.

DELETE THE D3D9.DLL FROM BOTH FOLDERS
INSTALL THIS FILE IN BOTH FOLDERS
      https://s3.amazonaws.com/eqznew/LOS2/Bin.zip
LAUNCH HELIXMODLAUNCHER.EXE AND LEAVE IT OPEN.
      LAUNCH SAMHD.EXE [THE GAME]

    1. someone ran into an issue that may of been related. I have no idea why it would effect only a couple people out of hundreds *shrug*
But anywho, it might be fixed. Redownload.

And see if it loads. We are still trying to figure it out but it seems people on older video cards are having issues with a new 3d driver + helixmod

  12. Hi. I have same problem with the black sphere and dead enemies. Tried both zips. Any ideas anyone? Thanks ...

    1. I am not really active anymore but it might be tied to convergence. Try reducing,

    2. I figured it out. All you need to do is disable ambient shadows. Go to Options, Performance, GPU Speed, Customize. It'll make the enemies presence look a bit unnatural in the game world, but it's still miles better than black spheres.
