Resident Evil 6 - 3D Vision Fix

3D Vision Fix by mike_ar69

Fixed
1. All shadows fixed.
2. Water reflection/refraction
3. Smoke/Fog halo
4. Disabled a minor lighting effect
5. Disabled the blanking that happens when pressing 'Pause' so you can still see the scene

READ THIS FIRST
Lots of people are reporting issues with either flickery/twitchy shadows, or lighting rendering double.
Go into the following file:
c:\Users\[username]\Documents\CAPCOM\RESIDENT EVIL 6\config.ini

and set these lines:

SLI=ON
Stereo=ON

Thanks to Вадим Д for spotting this :-)  I had these set already (for some reason) which may explain why I did not see the same problems everyone else did.

I believe the SLI line is necessary even if you don't have SLI, but you can try ON and OFF to get it to work.
There will still be some flickering in Prelude level though.

Updates
UPDATE: 12/16/13 Remove v6, this only seemed to work for me.
UPDATE: 11/02/13 Latest version is v5.3.  Disabled hotkey, was not working reliably with release dll...  Added extra settings for water for for different resolutions.  Fixes bloom.
UPDATE: 11/01/13 Fixed all lights and shadows. Latest version is v5.
UPDATE: 7/29/13 Changed DLL version to avoid some crashing in Leon Chapter.
UPDATE: 7/23/13 Fixed edge refraction issue on water after correcting reflections.  Re-download to be sure you have the latest files.

Known Issues
- Spotlight lighting is a bit off, looks clipped from a distance.  I now know the cause, but need to work out a solution.
- Some ground reflections are not quite right (especially in the prelude level)
- Flickering in Prelude level

Installation
1. Choose which version below depending on whether it works for you or not - start with the latest and scale back.  DELETE OLD ShaderOverride if you do switch versions.

V5.3.1 - Fix for shadows and lighting but no fix for Prelude flickering.  Possible issues with lighting, see fix explained above.
(a) DOF ON
(b) DOF OFF

V4 - Fix with dynamic shadows disabled, and no fix for other shadows or lighting.  Does not have the lighting issues that V5.3.1 has for some people.
(a) DOF ON
(b) DOF OFF

2. Extract file to the games exe directory.  In my case this is D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 6.

3. Play.

  3. No problem :-)

    I am going to look at shadows and hopefully can some up with something, even if approximate at certain depth/convergence etc.

    I am also going to add in a couple of keys to toggle DOF on and off and also to toggle 2d shadows on and off. Some people have suggested they can play the game with the 2d shadows on if they toyify the game a bit, and I know widescreen gamers have less issues as well (though I don't understand why), so adding in a toggle will give that option while still benefitting from the other fixes.

  4. Thanx for the fix, but i still have wrong shadows and smoke effects... weird in leon story.

  5. Hi - I have not fixed shadows, but it sounds like there may be another shader that needs disabling. Is is possible you can provide a save game so I can track down the smoke issue as well?

  6. Thanks for the fix. Finally I can start playing the game. It is better than I thought in the beginning. Unfortunately the cut scenes are not properly fixed, I guess it is because of the shadow... but overall this is no problem. But I have one problem with the first chapter of Leon, because after finding this guy "shadow" who searches for his daughter, after I open the next door and the game tries to reload it crashes... I guess it could be related to the fix? What do you think. Thanks a lot.

    1. Delete d3d9.dll and see if it loads. If it doesnt then its not related to fix. The fix will only have any effect on game as long as the d3d9.dll is in game folder.

    2. Exactly this issue brought me here. The game crashes to Desktop every single time during the cutscene mentioned above......

    3. What eqzitara says. I'll look myself as well. I know there are some shadows in cut scenes that are not the same as the shadows I disabled - I believe these to same as some of the in-game shadows which snap on and out of correct rendering, but which are not screen depth, so mostly tolerable. Shadows are a mess in this game. I fixed them (mostly) in the demo but transferring the fix to the full game is giving me the snapping in and out problem which I am trying to sort out.

    4. OK - some investigation shows that it was the version of the DLL included. There are only two DLLs available that can be used with this game, and fortunately the alternative one works. I had the same crashing at that cut-scene, but not with the different DLL. If you continue to have issues, press Esc in the cutscene, that might help, or just disable the mod until you are past that scene and at a savepoint.

      I have updated the files so please re-download.

      Shadows in this game are something else. I am working on a fix that worked almost flawlessly in the demo, but the actual game is more complicated, with much more going on. It's currently still better than without it, but I'm not going to release it until I've been able to spend more time on it (which I am not able right now).

    5. Thank you. I'll try it out immediately and going to report back. I have no problem playing the game without shadows. I mostly turn them off in my 3D vision games because they sometimes already slow down my framerate and I prefer to have a good one instead of sloppy shadows in 3d - what most games unfortunately do have. Big thanks again. Keep on the good work. mrorange

    1. Great stuff, thanks for reporting back. Please let me know of anything else. This game fix is a bit more 'delicate' than many others, so there might be more of the above things, since most of the DLLs (debug or release) simply crash the game on startup, let alone playing it, so we are fortunate that there is a (single) combination of dlls that work.

    1. Mike left a response below. If you dont want to wait.
      Do the following test.
      Delete your shaderoverride folder. Launch game.
      If game still crashes. You have a conflict. Please go through this guide

    2. I just checked both versions and the game starts up and I can start each chapter. I'll have another think, but beyond what eqzitara suggested I am not sure what else (but I am tired right now... lol). Check the game works with no mod installed; check it works with *just* the dll and no shaderoverride folder; check that steam overlay is off etc (everything in the link eqzitara gave).

  10. Does it crash at startup or in game? Do you have the newest download? What is your rig setup, driver versions etc?

    Helix is apparently going to look at this game soon, so I am not spending much more time on it. The dlls have trouble with this game and Helix will also be able to fix that.

    I will check out the issue though, since a game update may have caused a problem.

  11. Thanks for the response guys.
    I'm using the most recent 326.41 geforce beta drivers. It crashes as soon as i launch the game with the mod installed. Works perfectly without. Played for hours last night with no issues.
    Wont get chance now until tomorrow but i will read the known-issues html and try the steps you suggest and let you know how i get on.
    I have a feeling it might be a recent game update through steam that's causing the problem.

    1. Hi - thanks for looking into this. Couple of other questions:
      - are you Win7 or 8?
      - have you ever managed to have the game work, or is this a first attempt?

      Main differences between you and me (assuming you are Win 7) is that I use SLI (x2 GTX 570)and I am still on the 320.49 driver. I am avoiding the newest ones for now since there seems to have been a fair bit feedback about bugs. I know it would be a pain, but if you could roll back to 320.49 and see if it still crashed. I will similarly upgrade to the 326.41 driver and see what happens my end.

      The 600 and 700 series have some issue with shaders that get blanked out incorrectly but I think I have done it correctly for this game. The DOF OFF option blanks out the DOF shader of course, and both options (DOF On and OFF) blank out another shader that draws the light coronas. This is the file ShaderOverride/VertexShaders/9028563A.txt. Try deleting it (or prepend with some character so its not picked up) and see if that does anything.

  12. Hi guys.
    Ok iv'e made a bit of progress with this problem. i've narrowed it down to a conflict with precision X (4.2.1) and/or Riva tuner statistics server (5.2.0) that precision uses.
    I've enabled compatibility with modified Direct3D runtime libraries. This time it loads but hangs on a black screen before anything is displayed and is being reported as not responding in task manager. Previously it would crash straight back to desktop with the exe stopped working message.

    Closing precision X results in the modded game launching properly!

    Any suggestions how to get the modded game working with precision? I like to monitor card temps and whilst gaming and custom fan profile doesn't work without precision in the background.
    I'm on win 7.

    1. Hi thanks for tracking this down!

      I don't know how to get precision X working. I used to use a utility (may have been that one) but always caused me problems so I stopped. These things are nice in theory, but because they are so low level they do regularly conflict with other things.

      Nvidia Inspector gives you all the stats, graphs, temps etc, but of course not in OSD, you have to tab out of game to see them. The custom fan feature does work on it though, I use it quite a lot to set fan speed on my cards.

  13. Good point! I have Nvidia Inspector installed. Not bothered about osd i have a second monitor.
    Hopefully this will help others running into the same problem!

    Thanks for all your help and thanks to you and your team for all the hard work you put into these mods for us. The amount of unplayable 3D games you've turned into 3D masterpieces is unbelievable!

    P.s. Game play looks fantastic now but cut scenes still have issues. Is this normal with this version of the mod?

  18. Hi all - I am putting the final touches to a complete fix for shadows, and this will be released with a new version of the Helix DLL. It is unfortunate that different people have different problems with different DLL versions (this is what causes black screens etc), so what I will do is release patches with different DLLs in, so people can go through the list until they find one that works. There is not really anything else I can do beyond that.

    Helix did have plans for fixing this game (including the shadows), but he hasn't (yet) and I discovered a new technique fixing Lego Marvel Superheroes that allows me to fix the 'fixed' shadows that change depth with distance, so I picked it up again. I had already fixed dynamic shadows months ago, but the game was too difficult to work with to streamline the fix that did not cause additional artifacts (random things rendering black). Helix's latest DLL has a new feature to cut down on the number of shaders to work with (from 10000+ to a few hundred) which is a massive productivity boost, and makes it more feasible to fix the game. I currently have the Leon and Ana chapters pretty much perfect (as well as the survival type game modes), but I need a bit more work on the other two main chapters (Chris and the other one) and the Prelude.

    I might nor be able to get rid of all artifacts, but I will release it if I get 90% of the way there - it's still miles better than shadows that don't work.

  24. Thanks for the fix! Looking great! I just wish the gameplay stood up to the quality of the 3D. The more I play, the less I am having fun and the more of a chore it seems to work through the game. Seriously, what is up with the ridiculous checkpoint save system? Having to go through several maneuvers to use a health pickup while you are in the middle of getting killed? Spots in the game where you are stuck with no ammo and really can't do much of anything? The chase sequences where the camera changes suddenly as well as what direction you have to point the controls, resulting in a cheap death? Oh yeah, the cheap shots, i.e. getting knocked down again right after already being knocked down and trying to get up? And hammering A and the thumb stick all the time to keep from dying? I had started playing on hard, but it became so tedious and maddening I changed it to normal, but even then it is still tedious. I don't think it is as bad as Jim Sterling made it out to be, but he is really not too far off on this one. It really seems as though they did next to no testing of this before they released it.

    Anyway, thanks again! Cutscenes are mostly looking good and overall it looks great! At least it LOOKS great LOL.

    1. Yeah I agree with you completely. I really like the look of it, the atmosphere, and the cut scenes, but all the key bashing (and dying 10 times when a zombie grabs you before you randomly manage to get out of its clutches), the unnatural aiming controls, the unresponsive movement, and definitely the knockdowns, just make it "not fun". I am close to the end of the effort I can feasibly justify putting in, but I guess I learn something new each time I work on one of these games (I got back into this after fixing something in Lego Marvel) so its always worth it.

    1. Thanks for the pictures. I have not seen that before, hmmm. The lighting is wrong for one eye, and it looks like bloom. I don't have any time to investigate right now, but if you look in the shaderoverride/VertexShaders folder you will see a file called "9F64E5F1.txt". Rename that to something like "Bak_9F64E5F1.txt" so it does not get loaded and see what happens. It might have nothing to do with it, but if it does then I can fix it. Otherwise, a save game from you might be necessary. Thanks again,

    3. Hi - I can't fix your problem without someway to get to the point you are in order to see it. Right now, I don't get this effect (the only lighting issue I have is with spotlights, and I know exactly what causes it, just don't know how to fix it). Please can you tell me what campaing, chapter, checkpoint you are at. Also, what version of the fix are you using? Thanks, Mike.

    4. Hi, I've got exactly the same problem with lights, in prelude and first campain (I'm just at the beginning), I tried fix v6 dof on and off, v5 dof on and off, I don't try v4 yet.
      Sorry for my english and thanks for your work.

    5. Hi achile19 - can you post a screenshot? I am familiar with prelude and first levels and will be able to go straight to the problem points and see what shader is problematic (even though the problem does not happen for me, the images I have seen show that it is a particular lighting shader and I may be able to disable it for example).
      As I've noted, this has been the most troublesome game I have ever worked on in terms of different people/setups having different issues. Can you let me know (in detail) what your in game settings are, and what your nVidia control panel settings are (under 3d options), what driver you are using and if you are SLI or not? Also what graphics card you have (I am SLI GTX770 for example). I am trying to build up a picture of what systems have problems (though I don't have much information yet)...

    6. Hi mike, my driver is 331.82 with GTX780 ti, nVidia control panel settings are "default" and game settings are high level. Regardless contol panel or game settings, it doesn't solve the problem. Without fix lights are good, but with fix lights are wrong for left eye. I've got another PC with 2 GTX460 (one for phys x) with same drivers and same problem.
      I don't know how to capture screenshot... But you can refer to Pich's gallery, it is exactly what I see in game. http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/pich/image/528b493dcb85778e7e000044/

    7. Someone posted this issue on the Nvidia Forums:

      https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/535421/3d-vision/resident-evil-6/post/4034105/#4034105

      "this is weird, I checked the game with only d3d9 and it worked fine without the displaced elements for the left eye but with messed up shadows.

      http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/tehace/image/52968ef8cb85778215000096/

      so I copied the 6.0.1 in and they appear again

      http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/tehace/image/52968fb0cb85777a2b000140/

      so I started to play with the in-game options. I was using highest AA fxhq3 (or something like that), 900p, basically all highest with framerate locked at 60 and Vsync ON. So I turned the AA off completely, set the framerate to variable and turn off Vsync. Suddenly when I checked the game was fine

      http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/tehace/image/52969082cb85771223000043/
      http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/tehace/image/52969093cb85777a2b000141/

      So I tried to check what setting caused this and turn all of them one by one on again (frame limit, AA, Vsync) but I turned them all ON again and the fix still works so I gone back to my original settings and its working although I do have the flickering shadows.

      So yeah I have no idea what have happened (I was changing the setting yesterday as well but with no result whatsoever) the game might be bugged since I got an error that I ran out of VRAM and the game crashed (4gb on 680).

      EDIT: I also updated to the latest beta drivers.

      And thanks for the FIX."

      Maybe try the same thing...?

      What this shows though is that there something pretty low level going on with this game that I am not going to get to the bottom of.

    8. Hi, lights are finaly fine, whatever in game graphic settings, in 1600x900 16/9 (not in 1920x1080), 1600x1024, 1440x900, I didn't try lower resolutions.

      Delete
    9. Well that's great news - did you do the same thing as the post above? Is it just 1920x1080 that does not work now? And do you get the really bad flickering? (not the default flickering that is part of the rubbish shadow resolution, but the really wild random flickering that some people are getting).

      Delete
    10. Hi mike,
      I tried things above but it didn't work, my problem was just resolution ( above he tried 900p and I think it's the reason why it worked...).
      1920x1080 1280x720 don't work, 1600x1024 1600x900 1440x900 work.
      I've got the bad flickering with fix v6 but it works fine with fix v5.3.
      There is no difference between last beta Nvidia driver and the last whql.
      I've got 2 PCs with 2 different configurations and it is the same on the both.
      I just can't play on my plasma TV because of resolution, it only accepts 1280x720 3D by hdmi.
      I'm french so sorry for my english.

      Delete
    11. Thanks. The only thing I am doing specifically for those resolution (1080p and 720p) is setting what is called surface creation properties in the DX9Settings.ini file:

      [General]
      .
      .
      .
      SurfaceCreationModeList = 0;1;2;
      .
      .
      ;Water
      [SF0]
      ;1920x1080
      DefMode = 2
      Format = 21
      Usage = 1
      Height = 270
      Width = 480

      [SF1]
      ;1280x720
      DefMode = 2
      Format = 21
      Usage = 1
      Height = 180
      Width = 320

      [SF2]
      ;1680x1050
      DefMode = 2
      Format = 21
      Usage = 1
      Height = 262
      Width = 420

      So maybe this is doing it...? If you could go into your DX9Settings.ini file and comment out those lines by putting a ";" at the start of them all, then seeing if it happens that would help me. If it stops the lights issue, you will still be left with water that does not work, but I should be able to get round that another way.

      Thanks for reporting this, but no I have not seen this, or had other reports. Is it all cinematics, or just some of them, and which ones? And does it occur with any detail level (sometimes SSAO in games does this for example, though I can't remember if this game has that).

    15. Hi, here you can see my problem: http://www.3dvisionlive.com/ugc/25602/res-6-wrong-shadows
      There is no SSAO, it occurs with any detail level and resolution, and in all cinematics that I saw.

  27. Hi I seem to have the same problem lol running gtx 560 ti don't know what settings you mean in control panel I am using the latest driver.

  28. its through the whole game a lot of double images and I have tried v4 and v5 lots of ghosting.

    1. If it's happening with v4 then I am at a loss... That version of the fix has been out for several months. Something else is wrong and it might be a DLL issue. It could be an Nvidia driver issue as well - when I run the original "benchmark version" of the game now it looks like crap and does not render correctly at all without the fix let alone with it. I never rolled back to an earlier driver to see what might have changed (clearly the demo hasn't). Maybe you could try a driver that was pre 320.XX ?

      Honestly, I am giving up on this game I think - it's been a pain in my arse for so many reasons since the day I started it and it seems like the only person this fix works properly for is me, and I am not even all that keen on it lol ;-) If changing the in-game settings or rolling back nvidia drivers does not work for you, then we are going to have to chalk this one up to a game that was not meant to be.

  29. tried a different driver still didn't work. I'm thinking its a dll problem maybe. Anyways I don't blame you for giving up who knows how many hours you probably put into it lol. thanks for getting back to me so quick. I was wondering if you could have a quick look at defiance? It's on the wrong profile so when you add it to aion everything looks good except a few things. just wondering If it would be an easy fix or time consuming? If you don't have time I understand that your a busy person. thanks

    1. Hi - see the post above. Two other users have got this working. Importantly, the note from achile19 identifies this as a problem for certain resolutions (1080p and 720p). Could you try one of the other resolutions he suggests, and then perhaps the suggestion I made about commenting stuff in the DX9Settings.ini file?

    2. It works now after doing what you suggested with the ';' thanks a lot

    3. Hi Nicholas, thanks for checking - that's great news that the cause has been found. I don't know 'why' those operations would cause lights to go wrong for some people but not others, but that's been the nature of this game from the start anyway ;-) Water is far less common in this game than lights, so its definitely the lesser of two evils, and will give me time to work out an alternative water fix.

  31. I had problems with flickered shadows and lights. I've took version 5.3.1 and copied Vertex Shader 66938957 to disable dynamic shadows and of course commited lines in DX9Settings.ini above mentioned in header. The game became quite playable. Thanks a lot for mike

    1. Be aware that the flickering is massively worse in Prelude, but gets much less after that, so you might want to try removing the 66938957 vertex shader for the main campaign levels to see if it works out for you.

  32. Hi - thanks for trying this out. If you don't have the lights problem, its best to keep the DX9Settings settings for water. It is a good idea though to use the dynamic shadow shader from v4 to disable dynamic shadows, since v4 of the patch does not fix the other lighting issues that v5.3.1 does. I'll have a look at it and maybe package that up as a solution.

  33. I had lights problems so i change DX9Settings.ini. Another big problem was awfull 2D ghosting in all cut scenes and while aiming. After disabling Pixel Shader 39DABAAE all became fine. It seems to me that all differencies in problems depends on SLI/NOT SLI configuration. I have single 560GTX and all OK. Now I'll try Prelude with disabled PS_39DABAAE

  35. Hi, can you tell me how to disabling PS 39DABAAE ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi - yes:
      1. Put the line DumpAll=true under the [General] section in the DX9Settings.ini file;
      2. Run the game using the debug dll, so you see red text at the top;
      3. Quit the game and there will be a folder called "dumps/pixelshader"
      4. take the file 39DABAAE.txt from the Dumps/PixelShader folder
      5. copy it to the ShaderOverride/PixelShaders folder
      6. open it up in a text editor
      7. empty the entire contents except for the following lines:
      ps_3_0
      dcl_texcoord v0
      8. Save it

      The above steps will disable that shader when the game runs. I will create a release with this already done, but I want to check out the shader myself first, because I don't know what it is actually doing.

      Delete
    2. The alternative simple way is to create new file 39DABAAE.txt in ShaderOverride\PixelShaders\ folder with 2 above mentioned lines. By the way if you decided to disable this shader you MUST disable DOF shader (232B643A.txt) too. If you don't do this the backgrounds of the cut scenes will be completely black

    3. Now I have problems only with water reflection/lights problems. And I don't understand how those lines in 3DSettings.ini influates on water - it's quite possible that corection code was builded into relise dll by helix, because there are not any override vertex shaders for water reflection on version 5.3.1

      Delete
    4. LOL! Yes that way is much simpler - I have no idea what I was thinking... ;-)

      Water: those lines in the DX9Settings.ini file DO FIX THE WATER. They are setting the stereoization properties of the render targets for water reflections/refractions etc. Please see the information at the top of the post that mentions this. I have no idea why these settings would affect lights for some people, but not others. And yes, there are NO shader level corrections for water in V5.3.1. There IS in v4. The problem I had when correcting the lighting in v5 is that a particular shader necessary to force lights to be 2D also messes up the water and I was not able to find a way to correct it - so I looked for render targets that would do this, and used this in V5.3.1.

      One thought now that you have corrected your other issues with shader 39DABAAE, is to see if re-enabling the DX9Settings.ini properties still messes up the lights? Perhaps just the settings for your chosen game resolution. Other people reported the lighting issues, but after changing settings, resolutions, and a few other random things the issue went away. The game is buggy, and the DLL has never played well with it either, but its worth trying.

    5. FIXED THE WATER!!! I had an idea and it worked. Am just testing it now, but the water is fixed without the need for the render surface settings. Will post it shortly.

    6. Hi, thanks for your answers, I disabled 39DABAAE and it works but I have now black backgrounds, I tried to disable DOF 232B643A, but it is still the same...

      Delete
    7. In Mike's 232B643A.txt the second line is dcl_texcoord v0.xy - it should be only dcl_texcoord v0. May be mistake, may be not critical - i only started to learn HLSL. I have in 3-4 cutscenes (in leon chapter) suddenly freezed transparent/untransparent matrix - i don't understand reason of that

      Delete
    8. To mike: disabling 39DABAAE don't solve problem of lights with correct water. Changing resolutions do not helps too. Only using old release dll stops light issues simultaneously with stopping water correction (i think old dll don't support stereoization properties of the render targets). By the way - in game there are many places with always correct water and people could garble them.

  37. Mike, I found out the reason of all troubles in cut scenes and water/lights issues - it's line Stereo=OFF in c:\Users\admin\Documents\CAPCOM\RESIDENT EVIL 6\config.ini. It should be Stereo=OFF but this do not solves the dynamic shadows and global illumination flickering in version 6.0.1. So i use version 5.3.1 with disabled vertex shader 66938957.txt. You should correct header.

    1. Should be Stereo=ON - it's my mistake in last comment

      Delete
  38. Thats all - I found reason of dynamic shadows flickering - it's line SLI=OFF in config.ini. When I correct it SLI=ON all became fine with 6.0.1 on single card - now I have no shadow flickering no water no lights problems - the game now HELIX ready

    1. Fantastic! Thanks for all your help on this. It turns out I have these two settings set to TRUE already, so that probably explains why I have not been getting the issues that other people have. I need to look at what VS 66938957.txt does though - I am going to create one last package up anyway because my new water fix is better than the surface properties one because it is a shader fix and caters for all resolutions, and it also seems to be more accurate. I also corrected the v0.xy shader for completeness (but I don't think it makes any difference).

      Delete
    2. DUH, sorry 66938957.txt is the one to disable dynamic shadows of course :-) I am going to put a toggle in for shadows, since it really is only Prelude that is bad.

      Delete
    3. I tried SLI and Stereo ON like it is said above and everything is fine.
      Thank you both, without you I couldn't play this game.

      THANKS HELIX for all your fix, and merry Christmas !

  39. With dynamic shadows game became nice. As for resolutions - everyone can apply it's own setting. I'am playing at 1600x900 and simple added in 3DSettings.ini lines - and all OK (just describe it in header for any resolution divide on 4):
    [General]
    SurfaceCreationModeList = 0;1;2;3
    [SF3]
    ;1600x900
    DefMode = 2
    Format = 21
    Usage = 1
    Height = 225
    Width = 400

    1. Hi - yes that is the rule, but honestly most people will never do this. You are an exception. The shader fix is a better approach, that's what I used in v4, and modified for my new (not yet published version). I am having a quick look (again) at spotlights - aside from the prelude flickering, this is the only other issue (you can see what I mean if you start the Leon chapter "Underground", and notice that headlamps are fine, but spotlights in walls are off. I know what causes this, but don't yet know how to fix it. I'm going to see if I have any new ideas.

  42. the fix seems broken since Nvidia 384.94 drivers. If i try to install DOF ON or OFF, the game crashes when launched.
    (d3d9.dll)

    I totally reinstalled the game, and put again SLI & STEREO ON. same thing

  43. Here's what worked for me (strangely):

    - Go to https://megagames.com/fixes/resident-evil-6-v16-all-no-dvd-reloaded and download the file there
    - Rename it to a.zip as the webpage says to do
    - Extract a.zip's steam_api.dll and steam_rld.ini files into the RE6 folder so that you're replacing steam_api.dll and adding steam_rld.ini
    - Download nvidia Profile Inspector, and make sure it's the latest one to avoid mid-app crashing (due to the Nvidia update, as you were saying)
    - Rename BH6.exe (the game exe) as BH6f.exe
    - In nvidia Profile Inspector, type in Resident Evil 6 at the top to get to RE6's 3d Vision profile
    - Go to the green button at the top that lets you add a program, and add the BH6f.exe to it
    - Now go to the BH6f.exe and directly start it (or make a shortcut), which won't give you an error due to step 3
    - The game should start normally. I originally used the latest HelixMod debugger DLL to tell it was going to crash, so you can use that if you need to troubleshoot this further

    I have no idea why this works, and I haven't tested much of the game with this yet. I hope it helps you though :)

  44. Looks like the save location is different if you open the exe in this manner: C:\ProgramData\Steam\RLD!\221040\storage

    Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\\221040\remote to copy your save to that new location before starting the game up again

    1. Just tested this again, and it was working nearly flawlessly. Win7, Driver 391.35. Steam version. No crashes at launch.

      I used the first installation. It fixed lights and shadows, but I did have to follow the instructions and manually set Stereo and SLI in the config file. 3D Fix Manager install did not set those flags, so backing up to manually follow the instructions works.

    2. i use WIN10 and NVIDIA DRIVER 398.36,STEAM too but game fronzen in load message =(

    3. Does it crash when the fix is not installed? It needs to run smoothly before adding the 3D fix.

      For old games like this, it's probably worth setting Win7 compatibility for the exe. And turn off all that gaming crap in Win10, including XBox shadowing and whatever else they've forced on you. You want no overlays active for HelixMod fixes.

    5. I got it to work. I also experienced the freeze during loading but I did this:
      1. Set the SLI and STEREO to ON in the ini file as per instructions
      2. DID NOT set compatibility to Windows 7 on the exe (so just left it at default)
      3. Installed the REGULAR 3D fix

      Launched the game from desktop shortcut and works fine, 3D is very nice and the game still looks good after 7 years. I am on Win10 20H2, nV 452.06
