3D Vision Fix by Helix

Fixed
- 2D Shadows
- Lights (specular and diffuse)
- 2D Fog/Smoke
- Water reflections

Adds:
- Presets:
-- Used KB keys:
1 - switch gameplay presets.
2(hold) - activate low convergence preset(for some cut scenes).

Installation
1. Unzip this file https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/CastlevaniaLoSUE.zip into "CastlevaniaLoS\bin".

Issues:
If you have problems with any overlays like evga precision, then use this version https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/CastlevaniaLoS_H.zip
This version should be installed in to "CastlevaniaLoS" folder. Run HeliXmodLauncher.exe before the game (don't forget to delete previous version with d3d9.dll as described above).

  1. Great work!
    But shadows are flickering, which caused by matrix inversion.

  2. Tried it on the demo too. It is good. The shadow flickering might get annoying... still not decided whether or not to buy this game. But good to know that 3d vision works already fine. Thanks. mrorange

  3. Yep, also getting the shadow flickering (it starts when the chase through the woods begins), the shadows are fine in the very first scene/level. Mike_ar69, do you have an SLI setup or do you game with a single card as the shadow flickering could be an issue with SLI perhaps (which I'm using) as there have been similar issues with some other fixes and sometimes non-SLI users are having issues which SLI users aren't having. I've set up the AION profile correctly so it's not because of that. Anyway, a huge thanks for the fix. Without people like you, Helix, eqzitara, Chiri and DHR to name a few in the 3D vision community, 3D vision would most likely be dead and buried by now. Hopefully someone can come up with a fix for the latest Splinter Cell as it's actually a pretty good game and it would be greatly enhanced with 3D Vision support and with the game having both DX9 and DX11 support, one would think it could be fixable.

  4. Thanks for the feedback everyone! I am looking into the flickering, but tbh I am not sure exactly where to start. I had flickering in another game but was able to fix it, but the solution does not apply here as I already learned from that and took that into account here. If it's just numerical error as a result of the matrix inversions I am not sure what to do. I do have a couple of extra rcp statements in there that might be causing numerical imprecision, I'll see what I can do about that.

    @Joohan - I game in SLI, but the same happens with non-SLI. Thus far (and I have not got far in game) the chase sequence is by far the worst scene - shadows are just wrong - but shadows just 'wobble' from that point on.

    1. Did you install to the correct location? It needs to go in the castlevanialos directory, not bin. I game in sli and that does not cause problems. Did you download the original fix v1 or the newly posted v3? I may have screwed up the update, I'm rushinga bit as wife is sick. Let me know, thanks!

    7. @anonymous 1650x1050: does the fix work at all, ever? In the demo? If not then can you tell me exactly where the files installed to, perhaps with a screenshot of the folders? I am a bit stumped if nothing is working - do the preset keys 0 and 9 change convergence?

    8. hi, the first patch v1 for the demo that you relase in nvidia forums works fine in my full game (all resolutions) except some shaders difusses. This patch v3 dont work shadows are broken and ligths too, but the presets 0 and 9 works fine, sorry for my poor english

    1. Hi - is there anyway you could get me save game? This game only seems to have one save slot and its buried away in the steam user data directory. If lighting is wrong then that's a worry because I am relying on the ion profile for that, so I might need to go back afterfall and find the vs to fix it (I admit I stopped looking). Also a screen shot would help me quickly assess this. Thanks. Btw I did an update for flickering, please renown load and see if that makes any difference.

  8. OK my apologies everyone, I f**ked p the earlier v3 fix by applying the fix twice in each shader. Updated now to v4. I have been back using the world map to all areas I have done so far and everything works (for me) - even all shadow flickering/wobbling is gone.

    Please re-download v4. Delete old shaderoverride just to make sure.

    1. @Mike:
      Yeah, I forgot to add that u should use double inverted matrix(thats the reason why i added it :)) or original x/y values (only use W from inverted). But as I see u already figured that out.
      If only I knew that u worked on this game I can safe some time, but I also looked at it.
      And stuck when tried to split something by textures. Calculation on the fly simply doesn't work here.
      So i've returned to dx9 wrapper and changes there something.
      I really don't like to change profiles, because nvidia like to brake them, thats why i wrote a script which should work with any profile.
      Btw as I promised tommorow I will update dx9 dll's.

      @All:
      If you are lazy *ss like me and don't want to change presets manually when open menu (book) or don't want (or can't ) change game profile from nvidia inspector, than you can use this alternative fix(almost the same as Mike's):
      - no need to change game profile for it;
      - when you open book (menu) it automatically change convergence to low and return original when you close it(bound to book textures).
      Probably that's all differences.
      To install it just Unpack all files from this archive https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/CastlevaniaLoSUE.zip in to "CastlevaniaLoS\bin" folder.
      If you use Mike's fix and want to try this one , don't forget to delete "ShaderOverride" folder and "DX9Settings.ini" file located in "CastlevaniaLoS" dir and d3d9.dll from "CastlevaniaLoS\bin".
      Used KB keys:
      1 - switch gameplay presets.
      2(hold) - activate low convergence preset(for some cut scenes).

      If you have problems with any overlays like evga precision, then use this version https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/CastlevaniaLoS_H.zip.
      This version should be installed in to "CastlevaniaLoS" folder. Run HeliXmodLauncher.exe before the game (don't forget to delete previous version with d3d9.dll as described above).

    2. Hi - I was not officially working on it then yesterday corresponded with eqzitara about the shadows so when I fixed them I put it out on the forums. As it happens I was looking at the book ( from the sounds of it the same approach as you tp fix the convergence value) so I guess we both duplicated a bit of time :-). I was going to try and fix lights without aion profile (I already fixed water, fog, smoke etc) but if you have done that I'll check out your fix and try and learn from it :-)

      So - are you going to look at splinter cell, because I will otherwise (just so we don't both work on same game again ;-)

      Looking forward to new dll as well, thanks, mike.

    3. @mikear69
      Despite people wanting DX9 splinter cell fix. Id really recommend looking into DX9 benchmarks before vesting into that game. I REALLY dont trust Ubisoft developed games[especially the sponsored ones] to get FPS high enough for S3D.

      @helix
      Perhaps I should look into making a forums. Its up to you but it might prevent "conflicting" patches a bit and it looks like your wrapper is branching out to non-3d users in future. *shrug* Its up to you.

      Delete
    4. @eqzitara - thanks for the heads up, i'll dig around for splinter cell perf figures. regarding a forum to share who is doing what fix, I think I have voiced support for that before, just something simple like an extra page on this blog with an editable table (perhaps not possible in a blog, I don't know)

      Delete
    5. @helix
      One more thing. Is that book convergence fix all the textures are listed or like as long as one of them are active change convergence?

      Delete
    6. @eqzitara. Well I can't find any dx 9 benchmarks but I did find out that it is an unreal 2.5 engine game, so could helix's unreal script be used do you think? It's kinda put me off looking at it to be honest , I like the challenge of working stuff out. I found the game somewhere for $20, not bought it yet though. I might spend my money on payday2, my beta fix based on the payday1 is only partially fixing things and its bothering me...

      Delete
    7. The last splinter cell I average around 30 fps in 3D. And it same engine.

      The shaders are probably the same which may make it easy since easier since UE 2.5 games have been fixed. They use that engine because they dont want to have to change anything tbh.
      No UE3 script/code will help it.
      I personally wouldnt do it tbh.

    8. Bioshock 1/2 was a lot of shaders. [ue2.5]

      When I was corresponding with Mana84 about it he said that each area required going to get the shaders to dump.
      Like they only dump at level start.

    9. I'm convinced, sounds like a nightmare...

    10. HOLY CRAP. I just checked Helix's fix.
      It changes convergence value if texture is active. Couldn't this be done for games with Cinematics? Like Blackbars = seperate setting
      OR
      Hud elements = seperate setting [Backwards. You would be defining gameplay]

      Just a note, not sure if this is one of those sli/non-sli things since it happens with reflections ALOT. Reflections are off for me.

      Delete
    11. I see Helix has added some new goodies :-)

      Reflections are perfect for me and I run SLI. Are your reflection off with both mine and Helix fix? Can you post a screenshot?

      @Helix: What does the following do, I've seen it a few times:
      [PS00000000]
      MatrixReg = 170
      UseMatrix = true
      GetMatrixFromReg = 0
      InverseMatrix = true

      [PSFFFFFFFF]
      MatrixReg = 170
      UseMatrix = true
      GetMatrixFromReg = 12
      InverseMatrix = true

    12. @mike:
      These are presets for autofixed shaders. Atm only 2 allowed (i will add more later).
      When output shader text(processed by script) ends with "//usepres"
      text , than for these shader will be used [PS00000000] presets.
      Otherwise [PSFFFFFFFF].
      this's doing by this line in the script:
      if (isDone) and (ShadowMapMatSplit == nil) then

      x = x .. string.char(10) .. "//usepres"

      end

      Shaders which have ShadowMap_MatSplit matrix store invprojection matix in c12 and without it in c0 I've split these shaders that way.
      Later i will extend that and it will be able to set shaders presets directly from the script.

      @eqzitara, Yes , you can. But you need to bind with unique shader, texture or point which appears only in this scene.

      All,
      As i promised I made an update of dx9 dlls.
      Fixed crashes in some games.
      Added ability to show only currently rendering shaders(for some games can decrease shaders from 2k to 50 -100).
      To activate this you need to add "UseRenderedShaders=true" under general section in "DX9Settings.ini".
      This will add in list all rendering(or previous rendered) shaders.
      As in time this list can grows (don't clear it automatically, because in this case will be hard to catch some effects) you can clear it by pressing "-" (subtract) key on KB or when you alt tab from the game.

      Also added full support of DX9 extended interface. Some games like "CastlevaniaLoS" or "Blades of time" use.
      You can activate it by adding "UseExtInterfaceOnly=true" under general section of "DX9Settings.ini" file.

      Soon I will make a separate post where I describe all feature.

    13. [Just an FYI looking at Brothers: A tale of two sons]

      UseRenderedShaders=true
      Works great. 9000 pixelshaders is what I am used to with UDK only a handful remain during intro which made it easy to pick out initial pixelshaders that need to be sorted out with your script.
      Now the problem. New dll seems to check shaderoverride AFTER your lua script. I cant reinject a changed pixelshader that your script effects.

      Delete
    14. DEFINETLY THE GREATEST FEATURE. WOW

      One of my games with the greatest problem was Jade Empire. It desperately need two presets one for Conversation/ the other for gameplay. I am testing it completely to make sure it 100% works but its amazing but its amazing. I plan to go through many games = )
      Though tbh, I have no idea what a point is.

      Delete
    15. Going to sound nuts, but in some games its a bit hard to seperate gameplay from non gameplay [mass effect 2/3].
      BUT
      They both always have depth of field activated in "cinematics". Is depth of field considered a texture? Just asking before I invest time into doing more games.

    17. nope, DOF works with render target and depth buffer.
      And in some games you can not separate textures that way.

      Delete
    18. When you explain the new features [no pressure on when, I know I should of waited but got impatient]
      Can you make sure to explain what a "Point" is? Also how can a shader be "unique"? Like I understand textures, some games dont use unique textures. Like unfortunately I cant do this on dragon age series because it doesnt use unique textures [groups].

      Delete
    19. Point is a first vertex value from vertex buffer for current draw call.
      It's useful in most cases only for HUD when different parts draws by different draws calls (for example 10 squares).
      And you can bind to X/Y or texture coordinate(which is constant for HUD) , but only for first vertex from whole buffer.
      You can't access to every vertex , because it will cause big perf. drops.
      So don't expect miracle from this one :)

      Delete
    20. Oh, so thats how you were able to seperate Amalurs hud.
      Ive been searching for where this has been mentioned but I cant find it any where. Ill wait till you write up more info on new features if it hasnt been written yet but if its been explained somewhere I would like it.

      Delete
    21. Helix, can you please explain more about the benefits of using "UseRenderedShaders=true" and "UseExtInterfaceOnly=true" with the updated dlls. what changes in game do we expect?

      Delete
    22. UseRenderedShaders=true :: makes fixing games easier.
      UseExtInterfaceOnly=true :: will allow wrapper to work with some games that wouldnt otherwise.

      Neither effects user.

    5. I had the same problem until I found out that there are two different DX9Settings.ini being used, one from which the settings are loaded when starting the game and the other one to which the settings are saved when pressing F7. At my installation DX9Settings.ini is ...

      loaded from: ..\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\CastlevaniaLoS\bin
      and
      saved (or in other words backed up) to: ..\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\CastlevaniaLoS

      Copying the "backed up" DX9Settings.ini over to tje "bin" directory for me perfectly solves the issue :-)

  28. I have a question about adding the 3D Helix mods to Steam games.. Once you unpack the the files into the game folders, does that just add proper 3D functionality to the games, or does it also change shaders that affect the way the games appear in 2D as well?

    Some games I like to play in 3D and others in 2D, so I like to be able to try out both before I start a playthrough. I just didn't want to affect the appearance of a particular title in 2D (shadows, lighting, etc.) if I install the mod but then decide to play the game in 2D after trying the 3D.

    By the way Dishonored in 3D was one of the best times I've had playing a game. Thank you.

    1. TBH, we don't document which games may be altered in 2D. Helix's fixes almost never are altered. I sometimes make alterations to huds, etc. Very rarely we have to remove something and we ussually document it.

      However if you ever want to be on safe side. Delete/move D3D9.DLL and then play game in 2D. Changes only happen while that file is installed.

    2. Hi!

      I just tested it on the demo and look pretty good, maybe the 3D effect seem not so deep like LOS1 was

      Already bought it on steam , when i finish the download im going to make some test on this fix

      thanks again!

      Delete
    3. the fix works on the retail version too :)

      There is any chance to give another convergence level like LOS1? the books looks cool but the 3d effect on the game seems that i'm using only 15% while the bar is at 100%

      thank you!

      Delete
    4. The fix itself does nothing to depth or convergence - there are no presets. You just have to change depth and convergence yourself to whatever you like and save that using the standard Nvidia hotkeys.

      There has been some discussion on the Nvidia forums about the depth in this game not seeming as 'deep' as CLOS1, but ultimately that's just the way the game is.

      There is a way to modify the registry to make it think that your screen is smaller than it is and hence get >100% depth, and this may help. Open up Notepad and create a new file with the following in it:

      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D]
      "MonitorSize"=dword:00000020

      Save it to desktop (or somewhere else) and call it "ScreenSize.reg" or ".reg", but it must have ".reg" as the file extension. Start the game and when you get 'in game', alt tab out and then double click the above .reg file. Agree to any pop ups if you see any. Then alt tab back into game. You will have higher depth, and may even need to reduce to a lower depth value in order to focus on it. If the number above is still not aggressive enough change "dword:00000020" to "dword:00000018" or something smaller.

    5. Unfortunately this game crash when i switch from my desktop to the game, this happens regardless if the 3D is enabled or not. i try to modify directly the windows registry but starting the game makes the key return to it initial value of 30 :(

      I was hoping that the 3D effect were so amazing like LOS1 was, but its not even close or maybe im doing something wrong with the files (i put the ShaderOverride and the .ini on the root folder: \Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 and the d3d9.dll on the bin folder and i don't use any other nvidia inspector profile)

      thanks again and great work!

      "3D effect" has nothing to do with fixes. It has to do with your depth/convergence setting and games camera setting. LOS1 uses "static/distant" camera which allows a very high 3D effect. You will rarely see a game like this where you can ramp up convergence.
      ----------------------------------------
      If you don't already know about convergence.
      Go to nvidia control panel->set up stereoscopic 3d->set keyboard shortcuts->click advanced
      You will see something called convergence. Assign a key to increase. Another to decrease.

      Start a game. Hold down whatever key you assigned to increase for up to 20 seconds. Screen will start shift. 3D effect will increase.

    7. i was using the wheel on the piramid to reach the maximun convergence possible but i try this option ! thanks .

    8. Just turning the wheel only changes depth, not convergence. Use the hot keys as eqzitara mentioned above. There is no on screen slider for this so you just need to keep going until you see the effect you like. You will need to hold down the hot keys to increase convergence for quite a long time.

  30. What AA settings do you recommend for this game @720p? In-game AA looks bad.

    1. Not sure if it works if using 3D TV play. If not might want to use edid override for acer h5360.

      This will allow you to upscale games to 1080P. Basically not quite 1080P but the anti-aliasing from 1080p is there. Don't mention I told you to anyone, sounds silly but I was asked not to tell others around a year ago. *shrug*. If you do it I would be curious if it works with tv play.

      Also can use sweetfx/injectsmaa. I did not look into nvidia inspector settings for game, there probably are.

    4. Wow.. the possibilities with pc gaming seems really endless. For my setup, downsampling might not be the best, since I'm running a single GTX780 I'm sure my fps will drop a lot @1080p 120hz, or I'll have to sacrifice other "eye candy"... I'll try out sweetfx instead. Thanks :]

    5. Sweetfx is a hassle getting to work... I ended up with 0x004012C1 2xM, 2xSGSSAA in NV inspector to maintain 60fps. 4x of same settings dropped fps to 45.

    6. Well it depends on game. Some games AA eats a lot more performance then it should. Like instead of 1:1 its like 2:1 more then it should be.
      You could do 1080p in LOS easily but probably not worth it in this case. Any non-"sponsored" game you can easily do 1080P @ 60fps.

      In UE3 games[namely ME series] I run 1080P / 2xms -sgssa / sweetfx

    1. Do the following
      1. Delete the current shaderoverride folder, d3d9.dll and dx9settings,ini file, and remove the Aion profile.
      2. Use this version:

    1. For DX9 games you need to use XPadder to map xbox buttons to keys. An example is found with 007 fix:007 XPadder

    1. This is a DX9 game, and thus requires HelixMod not 3Dmigoto/geo-11. The 11 in 'geo-11' stands for DX11.

    2. thanks. It works in 3d vision, but not work in helix vision with VR. The game on my PC screen is alreay in 3d, but it's not displaying in helix vision screen (shows "launching Castlevania Lords of Shadow").

    3. I tested helix vision with win10, 452.06 driver, 2080ti

    4. Unfortunately the DX9 games are hit or miss when working with HelixVision. Depends upon the game and how it is coded. That 'launching' view means that HelixVision was unable to hook into the game.
      If you are motivated to tinker with it, you could try using DgVoodoo to convert it to DX11 and then use geo-11. Also can be hit or miss.
