Might & Magic X - Legacy

fix by: mike_ar69, eqzitara, 4everAwake

Fix Last Updated:  December 26, 2016

Fixed:
-Halos, lights, HUD

Remaining Issue(s):
-Mouse cursor is 2D

Installation:
  • All Geforce drivers starting from 375.63 have a bug that's causing characters to be strobing white or distorted.  Geforce Driver 373.06 or older must be used with this game. Download here.
  • Download this ZIP file and extract the contents into the same directory that has the game's EXE file.
Additional Notes:
  • 'Z' key- Press this to make the HUD screen depth
  • 'X' key- When in battle, press this to cycle the depth of enemy nameplates & healthbars (3 presets)
  • 'Caps Lock' key- In battle, if you want to access your inventory or map, press this key to realign the screen. When finished, press this key again to restore depth to the enemy nameplates.
-On occasion, some trees or bushes might look off from a distance. Very briefly turn away (rotate your party) and the problem should be gone.
-Also, mostly the main quest was followed. So there may be shaders in some side quests that were missed.

Special thanks to DarkStarSword for the FOV fix.

  2. Cheers folks, this is great surprise. 4everAwake's fix for Legend of Grimrock 2 was a nice surprise and now this one, cool. These old school games are nice change of pace from the cookie cutter so called "AAA" console games. Nothing beats PC style games.

  3. Man, and I had given up on this getting a fix. Great work! Hmm I am only seing one problem where in certain outdoor areas there is a white flickering texture anomaly, hard to explain. Anyone else seeing this?

    1. I recently updated the patch but I'm not sure if it corrects the problem you're having. Do the texture anomalies look like white circles? There are two places that I know of that have that (Elemental Forge Level 4, and near a waterfall in Minho Marshes). Those are difficult to catch but I'll try to fix them.

  4. Thank you for creating this fix, 4eA. I started playing this game in 2D and I was continually disgusted by the low-poly models and blurry textures, even on maximum graphics settings. But when I fired up the game for the first time in S3D using this fix, the visuals made a big impression on me. Seeing the large, detailed environments with depth perception helped me to appreciate the game's good art design, despite the low-fidelity graphics. Great work!

  5. I just re-downloaded the game and the fix is currently working on my end. I'm using the UPlay version of the game. But I'll try and see if I can duplicate the issue you're having. If using the Steam version, try disabling Steam Overlay in the Steam In-game settings menu.

    1. Unlikely. This mod is to make the game playable in stereoscopic 3D.

  7. Hi. I tried to download the zip file for this 3d mod but the link to the file may be broken. I tried it from two computers in case it was just me. Please look into this as I'm much looking forward to playing this one in 3d!

    1. I confirm the link is broken, the security setting is not set to Public. 4everawake or eqzitara will be able to fix it.

    2. Sorry about that. It should work now.

  8. I noticed (at least on my setup) that even though the 3d effect is generally better than I expected, when I enter houses or shops, everything is dark and it is difficult to see the shopkeeper in 3d mode. Is this to be expected with this mod or is there a keyboard shortcut or other setting I don't know about?

    1. Hi Mike. I just re-installed the game. I'm not seeing any issues when inside houses or shops. The brightness seems normal to me.

Also, I just discovered that there's an issue with newer Geforce drivers that's causing distorted or strobing white characters in some areas. Geforce driver 373.06 or older must be used with this game.

  9. I have to disable shadows. Has anyone else problems with shadows?

If I enable shadow, they are at the wrong depth and flicker.

    1. I tested this fix with all the graphics settings maxed out and the shadows look good with no flickering.
I'm using Windows 10 with Geforce drivers 425.31. But there's still a strobing issue with the game that can only be fixed by using older Geforce drivers (older than 375.63).

    2. Thats strange, I just installed it on my new computer (also WIndows 10 with 425.31 driver) and got the same error as before. Shadows are not at screen depth, but also not at correct depth. Hm, any idea what else could be wrong?

I will try it on Windows 7 with the old driver, maybe it gives better result there.
