Monster Hunter World

WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL THIS FIX USING 3D FIX MANAGER!!!
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW

After a difficult development period, I can finally release an update for Monster Hunter World, which covers both the base game and the Iceborne expansion (hereon referred to as MHW and IB respectively).

The most important change to know about this update is going to be how the fix is loaded. The fix requires the 3DMigoto Loader tool to be run, and also for the fix to be installed to a location that is NOT inside the game's installation folder... and we can all thank Capcom and their anti-tampering tech for needing all this, but we should be grateful we have a solution at all because for a while it seemed like we didn't!

With that said, I'll provide detailed instructions below, which is mandatory for all people to read, understand, and follow. Expect very limited support from me, so it's in your best interest to do so.

Fixed:

  • 2D geometry
  • Lighting/shadows, with accurate depth speculars
  • Partial fix for tile lighting clipping
  • Most screenspace reflections
  • Ground decals, and all general effects
  • Snow trails (IB)
  • Water reflections
  • Various sky shaders

UI Features:

  • All UI features and keybindings show on-screen text to display their setting when activated, and most ill save their settings
  • HUD can be adjusted to preferred static depth via hotkey
  • Various screen effects can be disabled via hotkey
  • Choice of either:
  1. Scene-detection based automatic convergence presets
    or
  2. Static convergence with toggle key to switch between low and high convergence levels manually

If using automatic convergence presets, currently there is a recently introduced bug causing a high convergence preset to be triggered when selecting a mission from the bounty board or the Handler's quest book. This bug was not present as of a week or two ago, and I cannot resolve it, so either deal with it or use the low/high convergence toggle key to manually set it to low.

Remaining Issues:

  • Volumetric Rendering (can and should be disabled via an in-game option)
  • SSR's on certain crystal surfaces
  • Contact Shadows (can and should be disabled via an in-game option)
  • The laser and skin translucency effects of the MHW final monster and an optional IB monster
  • The grey silhouette of player characters that are obscured from the camera by monsters are at screen depth (can and should be disabled via an in-game option)

Instructions:

Step 1: Have the 3DVision driver installed and working first

For the love of God, make sure you have the Nvidia 3D driver properly installed and working with another game first. If you're not already aware, Nvidia drivers past 425.31 do not include the 3DVision driver, and you need to install the 3D Vision driver separately as well. It's your responsibility to find and use one of the various methods now used to install the 3DVision driver.

Also, an FYI, the game will nag you to update your Geforce driver if you are below 442.50 every time you launch the game, however that is optional and you can ignore the prompt.

Step 2: Install the latest Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package found here

It is also recommended to update both the x86 and x64 Visual C++ 2015-2017 packages found here
A restart of your PC is recommended after installing these packages

Step 3: Uninstall any previous versions of this fix

Do not skip this step.

Step 4: Download MHW fix version 3.0

Step 5: Extract fix to anywhere outside the game's installation directory.

In other words: DO NOT EXTRACT THE FIX INTO THE GAME FOLDER.
Instead, extract the MHW_Fix folder to your computer's desktop or to an outside directory

Step 6a: Open the MHW_Fix folder, and launch the 3DMigoto Loader.exe file. If you own MHW through Steam, this should in turn launch the game.

Step 6b: If you do not own MHW through Steam, then launch the game now.

RECOMMENDED SETTINGS

Game Settings:
  • Set Player Silhouette Display to off
  • Set Subtitles to off

Display Settings:
  • Set Volumetric Rendering to Off
  • Set Anti-Aliasing to FXAA or Off
  • Set Contact Shadows to Off

Key bindings:

F5 - HUD Depth (Cycle through: 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 95%)
F6 - DOF (Cycle through 3 settings: Base game cinematics DOF disabled, Iceborne cinematics DOF disabled, all DOF enabled)
F7 - Automatic convergence presets On/Off
Caps Lock or Xbox controller L3 + R3: Manually toggle between low convergence and high convergence presets

  2. i added the latest fix and it looks absolutely sublime really good fix, however unfortunately the game is unplayable framerate for me and i dont know why, as all other games play no problem (with 3d and fix) i have a 1070 and even if i turn everything off, i get single digit framerate, really jarring, killer instinct on the other hand i can play maxed out and it never goes below 60fps, has anyone else got this working with the latest fix and a smooth framerate?

    1. look into enabling the mod that fixes the over use of CPU cycles this game does. I used to have to run this in SLI with glitches but now one card is fine after that fix. Sorry I did this long ago and not sure where the link is.

  5. Thanks for the Fix. Sadly the some Patch broke it. Hud is 2D only, Stars/Skybox at night is incorrect, some plants are black at distance, Water has some issues to. And something i would call "Fog" is sometimes distracting the eyes. It´s still playable, but i would be very grateful if you could look at these Issues :)

    1. Yes, working on it now, but time is limited. I have posted up an intermediary work in progress over on the mtbs3d forum thread here: https://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=23599&p=167521#p167521

    3. Appreciate the generous donation.

Sorry to everyone I haven't been able to update further and get it properly posted to the blog, lots of life coming at me lately. Hoping to get back to this as soon as I can.

Glad you're enjoying it in the meantime.

  9. It gives me
MonsterHunterWorld.exe (16756): Unable to verify if 3DMigoto was successfully loaded: 5
and the fix won't kick in.
    any suggestions?

    1. "any suggestions?"

Nope. I said support will be very limited (ie. basically none), so read the instructions, follow them, and figure it out for yourself, or don't play in 3D. Not my loss if you don't.

Sorry if that sounds rude, but it's not my job to help you troubleshoot and I'm sick of people thinking it is. I also gave a warning in the beginning this is the case, so I can't help but assume you didn't RTFM.

    2. Its fux04ed for me on windows 10 but works great on windows 7 and yes its not DJ-RK's issue, everyone has their own setup and perhaps dubious ownership of the game.

    3. Hate to mention it but as an appreciation i donate once in a while.
I followed all the instructions (some folks here are not new to 3d... as do i.)
Don't understand why it makes you so angry friend. you can ignore my message cause it's realy not your problem or the fix problem.
i was just asking for a little help. it's ok.. i'll skip that one.

    4. Hanan. This fix was incredibly frustrating and time consuming for DJ-RK. (trust me, I know)
I also had a very challenging experience getting this game to work after capcom patched anti tamper protection into it.

The fix post is very concise and outlines every bit of support anyone could offer for you to get this working. It's extremely likely you are missing a crucial step. So my suggestion is to Start completely from scratch, and follow the instructions to the letter. Theres probably a 99 percent chance you have missed something crucial.

Reinstall your drivers, use 3Dfix manager to make sure you are getting the latest if 425.31 is not working for you. Reinstall the game from scratch to ensure there is no way you missed an old file that could be causing a problem.
and follow the installation instructions to the letter. If it still doesnt work for you you may have just got unlucky with your current build.

(I actually tested this across 3 different OS versions and currently use windows 10 pro 1809 with the latest driver.) and MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT TRYING TO RUN THE FIX FROM INSIDE THE GAME DIRECTORY. *desktop is fine, the entire fix not just the loader*

      Works perfectly.

    5. Thank you Necrpants. and of course thanks yo DJ-RK for a realy hard work in keeping 3d alive. i will try again. other games works just fine btw... i did tried the fix from desktop but again as you said.. maybe i miss something

    6. Thanks Necropants for explaining the situation and offering your assistance.

Hanan, I apologize if you felt like I was directing my anger towards you, but believe me, it's not so much anger as that I'm very blunt and direct with how I communicate these days. As Necro mentioned, the development of this fix was a little more frustrating than most others, so my patience and willingness to provide further support has been exhausted.

That's both from Capcoms doing, as well as years of providing support for my fixes. A lot of members of the community come on here and say something doesn't work, but don't give any details about themselves or their systems, and expect me to play 20 questions with them to help them (and unfortunately your first message fits that description). Usually it's a matter that they didn't even bother reading instructions and missed something important, or do not have their 3D Vision driver installed, or otherwise 99% of the time has nothing to do with the fix and entirely to do with that person's lack of understanding or incompetence.

I appreciate that you've said you've followed all the steps, since that at least says something, but was there any parts of it that you had difficulty with or didn't quite understand? If I had to guess, I'd wager that step 2 is where most people will struggle.

My only other suggestion is to follow step 6b (ie. launch the game manually after you've started the loader), even if you have the game on Steam. It's entirely possible the fix is simply not launching the game automatically.

    7. oh and of course, needless to say following the WIP on mtbs3d before this full release it was a monumental effort by DJ and a crowd of his hungry for a fix fans so if you really want to see what it took to get this done and the fantastic result, go over to the links for the WIP above, no small feat!!! This game kills it in 3D, I mean food and dino skin never looked this good in real life, oh and there are the chicks too!

    1. Just tried this game now on Win10 20H2, and everything works fine. I literally just unzipped the file and executed 3DMigoto Loader.exe - had to turn off CM and hit alt+enter for fullscreen. After that, no issues.

  13. Hello, i'm using this fix but the performance is bad. I have 2 gtx 1080 ti in sli with a 4770k processor, 16go ram and 50go virtual memory. With the previous fix i had 60fpsd constant, with this one i have between 30-40fps max. i use win10 1809 with 451.67nvidia driver. Somebody have the same probleme? have you a fix or a setting to resolve that? thanks

    1. Don't know, but it might be worth looking through the d3dx.ini file and see what all you can disable. Experiment with different settings in there. Try running it with no d3dx.ini file, which will disable everything and break the fix, but allow you to see if you get performance back. (Could be game update that slowed down.)

    2. Hello every body, im testing the last fix of monster hunter, normally we can switch 3dvision mode to SBS or TOP-BOTTOM mode, do you know how? for exemple with the last fix for the witcher3 next gen, the switch mode is easy, but in monster hunter when i change the setting there is no change in game.
