Fallout 4 - London

Fallout 4 geo-11 fix

This fix is tested only with the Fallout London DLC, but has updated the original Fallout 4 fix with geo-11. The original fix by mike_ar69 and DHR is unchanged, so this should also bring geo-11 to Fallout 4.

Description:

This is just a repackaging of the original mike_ar69 and DHR Fallout 4 fix, to make Fallout London playable.  geo-11 was swapped in, so that we can use better output modes and drivers.

The fix includes the High FPS Physics Fix Mod for Fallout 4 which not incidentally also fixes crashes when using 3D Vision. Output mode nvidia_dx9 works with this game on the most recent NVidia driver. katanga_vr output mode was also tested and works.

Performance is OK, but not terrific. The mod itself does not perform that well, so even adding nvidia_dx9 output makes no noticeable difference in performance.

This installation and running is a pretty fiddly, requires lots of steps. If you are an impatient sort, you will be annoyed. However, after some tuning, I've gotten it running pretty much flawlessly with no crashes, and it's a great gaming experience.

How to install:

- Install Fallout 4 and London, using the excellent directions here. Take some advice- do an absolutely clean install of Fallout 4. Delete all files, all save games, all appdata using this excellent guide on their Discord channel.

- Install Fallout 4 from either Steam or GoG. Either should work.

- Set game Properties to disable Steam or GoG Cloud saves, and on Steam set it to only update on launch, which will avoid getting that bad version back.  You need all DLC for Fallout 4, but specifically avoid including the High-Res Texture Pack.

- Run Fallout 4 once to create setup files, and set your graphic options. I recommend starting at Medium settings, and disable MotionBlur.

- I used Steam version of Fallout 4, which requires downgrading the game from the "Next Gen Update" to a more stable version. You can use their Fallout 4 Downgrader or do it manually via steam console if you are uncomfortable giving your Steam password to some rando exe.

- Download the London DLC itself from GoG. You can use Galaxy, or manual files. Run the Installer, then also run the Update.  I think the Update is necessary to get latest October patch of London, which is far more stable.

- The web is very confusing, but the v1.02 of London already includes the F4SE and Buffout Mods. I added the High FPS Physics Fix here, which is in the data subfolder and will automatically be installed when you unzip.

- Using a Mod Manager is not recommended by the London team. I tried latest Vortex, and deleted it and started again from scratch.

Download the geo-11 7z file, and extract to the Fallout 4 game directory where Fallout4.exe resides.

- Copy the Fallout4Prefs.ini to your %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Fallout4 folder. This includes some original 3D tweaks and settings. There is another prefs file at ..Fallout 4\Data\F4SE\plugins\HighFPSPhysicsFix.ini that includes some key tweaks to avoid crashing in 3D. Tweak these at your peril.

- Run the game from the GoG launcher, or from the f4se_loader.exe. Do not launch Fallout directly or you will break the installation.  First launch will be slow as geo-11 generates shaders.

Remaining Issues:

This is probably a 96% fix. There is one fog shader that seems somehow off, but is rarely seen.

The game reticle is at screen depth- Disable it in Settings and use your iron sights.

I'm not sure if max settings will work or look good. In particular I think max God Rays may not work.

This is a geo-11 version, set by default to direct_mode = nvidia_dx9 in d3dxdm.ini.

  6. Thank you for making 3D games compatible with the new drivers! It's a pleasure to have people like you who think about the future of 3D by bringing back what NVIDIA made obsolete for newer GPUs, allowing us to enjoy it with our modern hardware rather than outdated ones. Thanks, my friend!
