Alice: Madness Returns

With these fixes, Alice Madness Returns should rival any 3D Vision Ready game as the visuals were always fantastic in 3D. 2D UI was the only limiting factors as 2D crosshair and enemy icons made aiming inaccurate and high depth settings uncomfortable. No longer the case, enjoy Alice's twisted world in full 3D Vision glory!
Alice Madness Returns Fixes
- -Fixed rose/menu one eye texture
- -Fixed Memories texture fragment (right side)
V1.0 -
- -Uses HeliX mod to push 2D UI to 3D depths making crosshair and enemy icons accurate and usable in 3D Vision.
Thanks
ReplyDeleteIt works like a charm.
I enjoyed it on my Eyefinity Rig..
But now in 3D it's just "Whoaou" with your mod.
Just give one of your click below and maybe thanks in advance for your informed comment

Tanks Chiz...!
ReplyDeleteWe did a whole episode of The Extra Round on this game showcasing how amazing it looks with your fixes. Even though it comes with Stereoscopic support it wasn't 100% but Your fixes made 100% . Thank you for all the work you put into making this game 100% 3D rdy.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. Fixed all the little issues with 3D. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe resolution when i start the game is so bad that i cant see the options to change it, Any 1 know how i can fix this so i can play the game ????
ReplyDeleteI dont have alice installed anymore but may want to do a google search for a more detailed instructions of what I am about to say. It should work since it works in all other UE3 games.
DeleteIn my documents folder
there should be a folder for alice madness returns
look for an ini with "engine" in the name
search for resx
you should see something like..
ResX=1280
ResY=720
Change to match your settings.
I have the french version installed and here are more details :
DeleteIn C:\Users\xxxxxx\Documents\My Games\Alice Retour au pays de la folie\AliceGame\Config
(it's the french version)
The name of the file is "AliceEngine.ini"
I hope that it will do the trick...
Maybe you could try to play without 3D first and adjust your graphics settings ?

ReplyDeletewhere do i put the shader override file? i downloaded the fix, but i dont know where to put it now. never had a prob with any other helix mod, but this one doesnt seem to do anything for me.
ReplyDeleteHe doesnt include the d3d9.dll for some reason.
DeleteDOWNLOAD HERE https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/DLLS/Release.zip
Files should go same folder as the game's exe.
(games exe folder)/shaderoverride/
(games exe folder)/d3d9.dll
thank you very much for such a fast reply. you are a lifesaver. I want to thank helixmods for everything they do. if it werent for you the 3d vision community would be S.O.L. in a lot of games. keep up the great work guys. and again, thank you Eqzitara for such a fast reply and helping.
DeleteI must be missing something. i d/l the dx.dll file from link above and moved it to the folder where the .exe is. I also moved the shader override to the same folder. The game still looks bad. the shadows are horrible and there are a lot of double images. Am i doing something wrong? I dont see a difference between the helix mod and regular version.
Deleteoops, i ment d3d9.dll not dx.dll. also, is the pixelshader folder in the shaderoverride folder supposed to be empty? I just dont get why everyone else says how good this game looks and for me it is pretty bad. any help would be appreciated. I am running win7 64 bit, and gtx 580 sli if that helps
DeleteDid you rename the game? Shadows/everything is fixed by 3d vision rather then the mod.
DeleteIt should register it alice the madness returns. If that doesnt work you can use batman arkham city/asylum's exe since they use the same 3d vision profile.
Alice's name should be Alicegame.exe
Batman AA is bmgame.exe
Well thanks anyway. I renamed the exe to alicegame and now it doesnt load at all. i give up. thank you anyway
DeleteI'm having an issue where it won't render on the side screens using 3D surround with the latest NVidia drivers.
ReplyDeleteFresh install via steam.
This mod made it so that many menu elements, and the mouse cursor itself show up on the side screens whereas they displayed nothing at all before, but it still won't render anything on them within the game on cutscenes.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Oops, I meant OR cutscenes. To be clear, whether I'm playing or whether it's rendering a cutscene, there is no graphics on the side monitors.
DeleteYou nean HUD elements are showing up on your 2 non center monitors with this mod. Without its fine?
DeleteI assume it has to do with hud but I cant correct an issue if I dont understand issue completely.[and i do have alice]
DeleteIf its not hud related take a picture with alt-f1 [Or do it anyway]
Yes give us a pic ! I have a perfect centered HUD on my Eyefinity rig. I'm still using and old widescreen fixer plugin...
DeleteOne question . Confirm me that u want to play in 3DSurround Mode. Unfortunetaly newers WidescreenFixer releases will no longer support AMR... Unfortunetaly
And one advice. Revert to 314.22. Didn't know what u mean by last drivers.
?? isnt eyefinity amd?
DeleteI am using NVidia 3D Surround(2x680) on 3 40" 1920x1080 monitors with a bezel-corrected resolution of 5940x1080. The ONLY thing that ever shows up on the 2 side monitors are some menu elements and the red mouse pointer if I move it over there, and only with the mod. To be clear, without the mod, nothing ever shows up on the side monitors. I can move the mouse off screen and I have to move it back to see it again, but even the mouse pointer won't show up on the side screens.
DeleteIn either case, when the game is actually rendering, it only renders at 1920x1080 on the center monitor.
I see what your saying. Do me a favor, I cant tell what the solution may be unless you try this.
DeleteIn the fix you just installed keep the d3d9.dll but DELETE the shaderoverride folder. Tell me if it still happens [fix will not be active of course but I want to know if its fix related or dll related]
Same result with 320.18. I tried all combinations of "AllowNvidiaStereo3d=" and "UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=" again for posterity.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteSame exact result with d3d9.dll in place and shaderovveride moved to my desktop.
DeleteMoving d3d9.dll as well brings it back to original status, where nothing shows up at all on the side monitors at any time, although I can move the mouse over there because it takes a while to get it back on the screen.
Wait, your saying surround doesnt work with or without fix?
DeleteYou got bigger concerns then fix then. You need to get surround to work first.
@eqzitara
DeleteOk it's not Eyefnity but it's in Surround. And as far as i remember the widescreen fixer mode was both "platform". I don't know how to hook up a file here. But if there's a way to give "Anonymous" to try some help would be useful. Maybe "Anonymous" you have to follow this link http://www.wsgf.org/dr/alice-madness-returns/en
Could you confirm that you are playing in Surround mod with no fix ?
Asking for help here is really limited since most of us arent surround users. Id ask on nvidia 3d vision forums. If hud still has issues after you did that then I can try to help you but this is really out of anybodies field here. We arent really surround users.
DeleteI found this site on the nvidia 3d vision forums several games ago, it seems like the surround users are the main people that really need and use helixmod to fix a wide variety of these types of issues, so I figured discussion would be better off here than in some generic thread about every helixmod fix on there.
DeleteIt's also worth noting that I've never had any issues with the 5940x1080 resolution, even in quake 3 and the original alice. There's nothing wrong with the resolution or the 3d configuration.
I'll give the widescreen fixer a shot, thanks for the tip. If that doesn't work, I'll try Tri-Def. I hate using that software though, it's janky and it runs way slower than 3d vision.
Nah, I got no problem with you asking here. Im just saying odds are low of finding a surround solution here. Im pretty much the main support on here and I dont know jack about surround.
DeleteLike im the 3D Vision guy [I sound like a jerk saying that..]
Helifax is the surround guy . If you pm him on nvidia forums you can probably have better chances then with me. He fixes games for surround and plays in 3d vision so he knows a ton more then I do. Like he may play something I fix/helix/whomever but I have no idea how he achieves surround. I just do the 3d stuff.
Also dont worry about starting a topic on nvidia forums.
DeleteAnywho, get surround going and if the 3D is having problems then I can help you. Till then Im in the dark.

ReplyDeleteMany thanks, 3Dvision would be dead whitout Helimod. Just cought up whit this whole 3D gaming thing, and now I cant imagine ever going back to 2D.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this fix, Chiz. Everything looks great
ReplyDeleteSo was a fix ever found for those of us that are still having issues turning on the 3D for this game? At this point, it has become more of an obsession to try to get this to work. I have read and re-read every single comment to ensure I am not missing anything and so far nothing... Please help if you know some other way of getting the 3D to work.
ReplyDeleteI think it was discussed on nvidia forums. You need a certain driver. No idea which.
Deletecan try this though..
Deletehttps://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/658293/3d-vision/-quot-alice-madness-returns-quot-crashes-under-331-82-with-3d-vision-enabled/2/
Can someone give the folder path as to where to put these? I keep searching for shaderoveride but can't find it alice folder.
ReplyDeleteF yeah! I finally got past intro screen without crashing with NvidiaStereo3d=True! Only 3 days spent in this horrible nightmare....
ReplyDeleteAnyways, here is what I managed to find:
1. Do NOT disable Antialiasing OR MotionBlur in game settings. It WILL crash your game on the next launch!
2. Game settings persist via ...\Documents\My Games\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\CheckPoint\\GameConfig_PC.CFG - so, if you changed something from 1., you HAVE to delete this file, so it could be recreated anew.
3. Don't forget to turn on 3d in game settings ;)
@eqzitara or @chiz: plz add this to the main post, so someone could be spared from wasting a lot of time like me and enjoy this masterpiece instead =)
PS: This fix is driver independent (i.e. it works on all version of nvidia drivers).
Work Great Thanx, Instead of delete the GameCOnfig_pc you can just simply launch the game in 2d, activate 3d ans antialiasting et restart in 3d !
DeleteGood god that was a cluster fuck. I had to set NvidiaStereo3d=False, delete GameConfig, get into the game, turn on everything but leave the in-game stereo 3D off, quit back out, set NvidiaStereo3d=True, load up the game again, set the in-game 3D option back to on, quit out again, and then finally load up the game once more. Buttered Jesus on a biscuit what in the actual fuck. At last the game works now.
DeleteThanks for the fix. One question, can I use dynamic shadows? with or without the fix, DS is not working for me.

ReplyDelete3D vision rules so does helixmod thanks
ReplyDeleteGoing to add how I got it to work, let's call it Alice Stereo 3D 2017 edition:
ReplyDelete(small update: new drivers break the game when PhysXLoader.dll is replaced, so removing that step)
1. Add mod files (shaderoverride and d3d9.dll)
2. Move PhysXCooking.dll and PhysXCore.dll from the Alice binary folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Engine\v2.8.4
3. Max all the settings, keep 3D setting disabled, exit the game
4. Set StereoFlagsDX10 to 0x00004000 via nvidia profile inspector
5. Go back into the game, enable 3D
6. Set the following values in the two mentioned config files located in C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\Alice Madness Returns\AliceGame\Config
(AliceEngine.ini)
PhysXGpuHeapSize=256
PhysXMeshCacheSize=16
MaxDynamicChunkCount=500
PoolSize=560
(AliceGame.ini)
MaxPhysicsSubsteps=5
set both as read-only
7. play with the convergence and depth until shadows look right. From my testing at 720p, StereoConvergence came out to 0x4398EA11, depth at around 25%
AWESOME WORK!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH
ReplyDeleteif you experience freezes with 3d mode enabled after the start:
ReplyDeletestart the game in 2dmode
set physx to low(important),everything else on max
start the game in 3dmode ,change physx to high and dont change anything afterwards
Enjoy
start the game in 3d ,set
