Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty

Download the fix: 3Dfix-Oddworld+New+n+Tasty-2015-03-01.zip

Fixed

  • Halos
  • Shadows
  • Fog
  • Clouds
  • Vapor in Paramite temple
  • Sun shafts in Scrab temple
  • Ripple distortion on spirit rings & Shrykull lightning
  • Glass on chapter select + leaderboard screens
  • Automatic convergence presets added to maps, notes and pause menu

Installation

  1. Extract zip to the game directory
  2. Run HeliXmodLauncher.exe and leave it open
  3. Run the game

Troubleshooting

If this fix does not work for you, rename helixmod.dll to d3d9.dll and try running the game again (you will no longer need to use HeliXmodLauncher.exe).

If after renaming helixmod.dll to d3d9.dll you get crashes when launching the game and you are running the Steam version, try deleting the GameOverlayRenderer.dll from the Steam directory while Steam is running (Steam will automatically restore this file whenever it is launched).

Convergence Presets

Four convergence presets are provided on the numbers 1-4 for convenience. 1 is the lowest setting for the main menu, and 2-4 are higher settings for gameplay.

You can save your own custom convergence settings on 2-4, by activating the preset, adjusting the convergence with Ctrl+F4/F5 then saving with F7.

Known Issues

There is no automatic convergence preset for the main menu, as everything I could match on that menu also triggered in-game. You can manually activate preset 1 or 2 when in the menu instead.

    1. Hmm, best guess is the injector version isn't working for you. Try downloading the regular helix mod from here:

      https://s3.amazonaws.com/-HeliX-/DLLS/DllsModPack1.zip

Then copy the DLLs\RELEASE\d3d9.dll over the top of the dll from the fix. If you are running the Steam version and get a crash on launch, try deleting the GameOverlayRenderer.dll file in the Steam directory *while Steam is running* (Steam will automatically restore this file whenever it is launched).

    3. renaming the "helixmod.dll" from the fix on top of the page into "d3d9.dll" and don't start "Helixmodlauncher.exe" worked for me

  7. you are my hero! works great! thank you so much for your quick reply! i don't know why the injector doesn't work? i have a fresh install of 7 x64, keep my system clean and drivers up to date. may the injector be a problem for me for fixes coming up in the future? thank you again

  8. Still cant get this to work, also noticed that Mortal Kombat no longer works either , Did have EVGA Precision, uninstalled , still not working, not sure what is causing this.
Have latest Drivers and Win 7 x64 and up to date Steam, running GTX 580s in SLI and all games used to work wonderfully, now none do ???!!!

  9. After much muddling I have managed to get the renaming 'd3d9.dll' option to work. I dragged and dropped the original release file into games folder along with the fix files to receive a windows error that directx 9c and windows vista and above required. Oked this then removing the release d3d9.dll and renaming helixmod.dll to d3d9.dll has now got this working and looks amazing!!!!!!!!

  10. I'm unable to get this fix to work with my GOG version. Crashes every time (tried all options listed above). I tried the launcher, renaming and using the latest dll (debug and release, including x64 versions). But still no success. Game just crashes. Runs fine if not playing with 3dvision enabled.

Can anyone with the GOG version share how you got it to work? if possible please share your dll.

    1. 4everAwake reported that the GOG version worked fine with the regular Helix DLL, so I'm not sure what that would be crashing for you. Are you on Win7, Win8 or Win8.1? Are you running any other overlays or mods that might be conflicting with Helix mod like MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision, FRAPS or ENB?

      Delete
    2. I'm on Win7(with latest SP/updates), no other overlays/mods (went through the known issues checklist). I have a 780Ti with the latest drivers.
All other helix mods run fine for me, except this one game. I must mention that the crash occurs if playing with 3dVision even without the helix mod (ntdll.dll module crash)

    3. Definitely try to get it to run in 3D without the mod first then. You might try doing a clean driver reinstall with DDU, or trying an older driver (I'm not at home to check, but I *think* I'm running 347.25). You might also try uninstalling the "evil update" KB 2670838 as that is known to cause issues with some games.

Notably I don't usually get crashes (at least on launch) with the Steam Overlay and Helix mod, but for this game I do (hence why I used the injector version), so it's possible that this game is doing something a bit unusual.

  12. Hi, I would like your help please, I've been using you fix and everything works perfectly, I quit the game and all of a sudden the game doesn't sense 3D Vision anymore at all even without ur fix!! I tried a clean install of drivers and the game, all my games working perfectly, but this one doesn't sense my 3D Vision at all. How can I fix this issue!! what went wrong

    1. Odd. Just to cover the obvious things first - have you enabled 3D after reinstalling the driver, and definitely ran HeliXmodLauncher before running the game? One possibility is that the game has switched to windowed or borderless full screen mode - you can try adding it to the 3D Hub Player in nvidia inspector to see if that does anything. Also, if you're running a recent driver it might be causing issues - 353.06 seems to have unstable 3D that randomly deactivates stereo in a bunch of games. 350.12 seems to be the most stable of the recent drivers, so I'd suggest trying it.

    2. Thanks for your prompt reply, I tried to randomly add nnt.exe to another profile (Trine) by inspector, now 3D Vision senses again in oddworld(nnt) but the depths are not right ofcourse, is there another profile I can add nnt.exe to? and it works like the original profile?
Not sure why the original profile isn't working anymore even after a clean install, seems a drivers issue as you said.

    3. Any hint guys!! Why my game is ignoring 3D Vision at all !! any setting I can change or other profile I can use? why the game profile is ignored even if I reinstall drivers again? pffffft

    4. Did you try the "3D-Hub Player" profile? It's the one I usually pick for games that don't activate 3D. You could alternatively add the mystery stereo setting (setting ID 0x701EB457, use any value) to the Oddworld profile.

    5. I've tried 3D-Hub Player profile, 3D Vision is working again but with irritating ghosting, how can I add a setting to the profile? sorry I never did that :)

    6. Move back to driver 350.12, using DDU to do a fully clean install. There is no point in trying to solve problems on the latest driver.

    7. Tried it, nothing works, screw this game I was so excited to play it in 3D, I hate weird things when they happen. I'll enjoy other games. Thanks guys.

    8. Can you post a 3D screenshot of the "irritating ghosting" so I can check what the issue is? Make sure that HeliXmodLauncher is definitely running before launching the game (forgetting it would cause ghosting for sure), and try activating a convergence preset by pressing 1 or 2 after launching the game to make sure that Helix mod is using the correct separation & convergence settings (this has caused ghosting in other borderless windowed games in the past).

Are you running the Steam version of the game, or the GOG version? Both are reported to work, but maybe something has changed recently? FWIW the Steam version is working fine for me on 350.12 with both the original profile and 3D-Hub player.

    9. OK, so I started from scratch, I moved the nnt.exe to 3D-Hub-Player profile, I deleted GameOverlayRenderer.dll from Steam folder, I run HelixmodLauncher, and I ran the game, I play with convergence#4 , now let me explain what's really happening, it's not a continuous ghosting, but for example I'm if I'm running suddenly the screen shifts and come back makes my eyes almost crossing :D I couldn't take a screenshot, it's happening fast and I can see it with glasses. I hope you understand what kind of problem I'm talking about.

    10. to explain further the picture shift, when it happens the picture froze for a second while I still see the realtime game going on, causing 2 pictures, one will disappear and the next is the realtime. the real ghosting happens frequently as well cause black shadows for all objects.
I wish I can take a video to show you what I talk about but I guess I cant record in 3D

    11. I figure out I can do Fraps in 3D, OK I'll make a video and paste you a link when ready :)

      Delete
  13. Solved, when I started recording the issue increased and was much irritating, the only thing may cause this is the extra load makes the images delay to load or something, them I remember that I do Maximum Quality in game graphic option, when I decreased that the issue of ghosting is gone, it seems that it was caused by some delay of fps or I don't know, anyway I'm sorry to waste lot of ur time in this issue, I'll play the game with less quality now and enjoy ur patch.
    Thanks.

  15. Hmmm, not working on Win10 20H2, nv452.06, I followed the troublehshooting instructions with the dll rename, still nothing. Emitter kicks in and when I change convergence, I see the 2 images going apart but then they snap back together into 2D - nothing is ever 3D.

    ReplyDelete

    1. As a data point, I just tested the free EpicGame version, and see the same results. 3D is engaging as shown by the emitter, but game itself is showing just one eye. Not sure what to recommend here. Maybe try 425.31 as a better match for the game, and also try assigning game to different nvidia profiles, especially other Unity games that work.

    2. Same here... quick note I am on Win10 1809 (425 driver)

    3. The one eye rendering issue is known for several DirectX 9 games in 3D. It was introduced with Windows 10 1803 or so. Can be easily fixed via Nvidia Profile Inspector by setting "Stereo Profile" to "Yes" for the driver profile of the game. 3DFM does this for several games automatically - but not for Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty yet.

I've just looked into the game and ran into the same issues. Also found a bug in 3DFM that the injector versions of Helixmod generally did not work any more. I fixed all issues.

You can either wait until I release the updated profile or fix it manually via Nvidia Profile Inspector.

    4. Thanks for that great tip there about setting stereo profile=yes. Worked for me to get the game into 3D. Curiously, for a Unity game, I did not need -window-mode exclusive.

Game looks fantastic in 3D, all the textures and detail really pop.
Kudos and thanks to DarkStarSword for the fix, really fun game.
