Gothic 3
======
One game I decided to look into for fixes is Gothic 3. I have the retail version with the community patch installed. The community patch makes an incredible difference to this game in terms of graphics, game bugs and performance. The patch is huge at almost 1 GIG and is highly recommended. It can be found here:
Gothic 3 Community Patch 1.74
I have easily put in over 100 hours into this game and is quite good in 3D with the exception of two major problems.
1.) Sky out of depth
2.) Black Smoke and Haze effects around anything with fire
The black smoke and haze is distracting in 3D and is especially annoying with lots of burning buildings but thanks to Helix's mod, I have disabled two vertex shaders that were responsible for this. The world of Myrtana in Gothic 3 has a ton of torches, campfires and burning buildings!

The out of depth sky problem is now the remaining thing. The game is still playable as is and I have learned to ignore the sky, but this is something I'm going to try and fix. The addition of this sky fix would turn this into a great 3D game.

Gothic 3 - Forsaken Gods
===================
While I was at this, I decided to do the same for for Gothic 3 - Forsaken Gods. This version of the game was purchased from steam and the shaderoverrides work fine. I'd highly recommend the Enhanced community patch which is another excellent update that is 1.5 GIG. Can get that here:
Gothic 3 - Forsaken Gods Enhanced Community Patch 2.0
Optional Mod (more varied gameworld)
Content Mod Forsaken Gods 1.0
And last but not least the shaderoverride that disables smoke and haze same as Gothic 3, different indexes

Out of depth sky is remaining in this too.
Gothic 3 with the last official patch 1.75.14 (2012/04/24)

Sky is in 3D but on higher convergence there are some small black bars in the left and right coners, but it's okay.
ReplyDeleteParticle like Black Smoke/Haze looks good!

So this fix is out of date now correct? I will remove it from the gameslist but keep the page up
ReplyDeleteCan't attach image here, but it works nicely.
DeleteBut the patch (1.75.14) is only for the main game Gothic 3 and not for Gothic 3 - Forsaken Gods,
So the workaround is still needed for FSG.
Btw last patch for Forsaken Gods is 2.01!

Why you not trust the changelog?
DeleteAnd of course it is a official patch.

HUD/Nameplates will not use any shader! (drawn by GDI/DrawText)
ReplyDeleteAs stated above this patch is out of date and obsolete. With the latest 1.75 community patch 3dvision works perfectly without having to apply the helixmod. In fact if you do install helix it will break the sky shader and perform like crap. I applied helix without trying the game first and was getting single digit fps on a 980ti lol
ReplyDeleteHi, everybody! I've just bought the 3d vision kit and tested two of my most beloved games, gothic 3 and risen 1. Everything is awesome except the objects and people texts. The text are ok but being at different depth than the objects or people they are very distracting. When a text appear my eyes automaticly focuses on it. Can the text depth be changed? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNot easily. Someone would need to revisit this game to use our more advanced techniques. Unlikely. If you really care about this game, you can learn how to do it. ShaderHacker school
DeleteI've found a simple way to fix it a little. Low depth and increased convergence, but i'm not too happy. I like to play with max depth. Unfortunately i don't have too much spare time to learn everything about hacking. I was hoping there was an easy fix. :(
