Great! Thank You very much! Finally I really can enjoy the game in 3D as the official updates didn't do much to make the game 3DVision ready as it was announced.
Great one! Very high on the list of most wanted games, thanks!
For the Moon, I ran across something similar in Psychonauts where I could never find a shader. It turned out that there was nothing behind the shader, so when it was disabled, I just couldn't see it because no pixels changed. To find it, I kept moving the screen a little bit, like make it jitter, so that stuff has to be redrawn as you cycle shaders. You might see the Moon glitch out.
Really great news indeed. As the above poster I tried to play 2 weeks ago but stopped due to bad S3D. Now I can play this in all its 3D glory. Thank you very much for the fix.
I have installed to the proper Alan Wake directory, in the usual way, but still seem to have broken shadows/lights at depth higher than 10%. I am using 337.5 driver. Do I need another driver or different profile? Tried with and without SLI, still broken.
Same here. I didn't play much, I was testing something looking for the moon shader, but on Episode. 5: The Clicker(Bright Falls Light & Power) the moon casts a shadow from a giant evergreen and the shadow seemed like it was at maximum depth ... I think I may have found the shader for the moon(PS73643F0F) on that level but it looked fine to me, max depth, unless it's off somewhere else in the game.
Main shadows with high convergence becomes little deeper than main surface but secondary shadows (through grass for example) is OK. So it better to play at maximum Depth Ammount (Ctrl + F4) and not very high convergence (Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl +F6 - you should enable this option in Nvidia Conrol Panel). I tried to find out problem in 2B37CDBA.txt vertex shader but it seems to me that it comes in shader with c1 constant (disabling dp3 r1.y, c1.xyww, r0) in shader makes shadows at correct depth but z coordinate (highness) of light source becomes at zero. I often saw the same effect in others helixmodded games (Dead Island Reptide for example)
I cannot seem to get this to work even at high depth and low convergence. Using 337.5 driver, shadows and lighting actually looks much better without the mod, but must be run at high convergence and 10% depth.
I use 340.52 non SLI configuration and all fine. Alan Wake.v 1.00.16.3209. To disable shadows in 2B37CDBA.txt must be only 3 lines: vs_3_0 dcl_position v0 dcl_position o0
Without the mod all shadows are 2D and lies on screen.
In 1.06 version shadows without fix looks like mine. But in 1.00 shadows were 2d. I'll try to fix them but it seems to me that they are wrong and interfere with other shader(s) - near the player shadow is little under surface but at far distance they are litle above the surface. You can disable them - in 2B37CDBA.txt must be only 3 lines: vs_3_0 dcl_position v0 dcl_position o0
In version 1.00 with fix shadows is perfect on convergence 0.2-0.5. In version 1.06 shadows rebuilded and FOV dependent. So use fix in 1.00 with correct shadows or disable shadows in 1.06 (edit 2B37CDBA.txt by above mentioned method).
Finaly I've found the Moon... Disabling moon shader makes white sky (I've thought it will be black without moon). Fix for v1.06 (with disabled shadows and correct moon) availiable here: https://docs.google.com/uc?authuser=0&id=0BzaqFJRlfzzcU3l2Wi1aNjgyMHc&export=download
I've just tried fix and it looks that mouse is not working properly in the game with the wrapper installed. I can see mouse cursor in menu, however clicks are not working, and in the game camera cannot be rotated with the mouse. I can play with controller, but would prefer mouse. Maybe somebody knows the solution - another version of wrapper dll perhaps?
The fix in your link above together with the change of the FOV (17/20) works now perfectly and looks stunning. Thank you a lot. mrorange (add me on my Steam account, if you like: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198064106555)
the left and right click of my mouse don't work when i use this patch. The cursor work fine and i can highlight things in menu but i must use enter to valid my choices instead of left click.
Shadows are buggy, light renders incorrectly (objects lit up in one eye and dark in the other) and very low fps 20-30 on Titan X. Do I need a specific driver version for it to work?
THE REAL FIX FOR 1.06: Download eqzitara's patch from top of page (not the "no shadows" one in comments). Extract as normal. Download Left 4 Dead 2 patch and extract d3d9.dll 4/1/2012 6:20am and overwrite the dll from patch above (this fixes mouse). Start game - Options - FOV set to 17 (20 bars, count down from 20). Adjust for full depth (ctrl-F4). Adjust convergence to your liking (ctr-F5/F6). Save config (ctrl-F7).
I followed Oinker Piig's instructions but I still can't get it to work. Using the dll from the Left 4 Dead 2 patch removes shadows and causes lights to not work properly to the point of being unplayable :/
this fix,i can't set key Cycle between convergence presets in d3d9.ini,did convergence presets Associate with the DLL file content?anyone know how to do it?
Almost perfect (W7 Pro, 980Ti with drivers 358.87) but I had to use an old d3d9.dll (the Left 4 Dead 2 one, as indicated above). However, one "little" thing remains : The second half of the flashlight's beam renders on one eye only, which makes the game hardly playable ... :-/
It's disappointing, but at this point it looks like there won't be a working fix for Alan Wake version 1.06. I've tried all the instructions in this thread and none of them get the shadows to work correctly.
I don't know how to determine which version is running, but I just tested this with the Steam version, Win7, Driver 378.92 and *no fix* installed. It looks nearly perfect without the fix. In particular, I got to the flashlight, and it was working correctly. Shadows are perhaps not quite perfect, but are not at screen depth.
Try running with no fix installed, and FOV at 80%.
In 1.06 version you should set FOV on 17 from 20 bars without fix and all will be OK. I have done that fix for old 1.0 version where all was broken. The fix was published not by me and I can't change the header

ReplyDeleteI can't believe. I started playing the game yesterday for the first time and stopped due to bad 3d experience and here you are. Thank you!

ReplyDeleteNo I've done a mistake - disabling dp3 r1.x, c0.xyww, r0 makes shadows at correct depth but incorrect form of them

thx but i didnt see any difference. Game version 1.06, specs: gtx670 sli - driver 340.52
ReplyDeleteYour version 1.06. It may be many differences with 1.00 version. I'll make update and may be new fix for 1.06

ReplyDeleteI've found out that for correct shadows and torch lights in v1.06 in "options/controls/FOV" should be 17/20 value. The game becomes perfect with this
ReplyDeleteemail me at eqzitara@yahoo.com with whatever instructions / file you want on the page and I will update.
