Doorways: Prelude

(Previously known as: Doorways: Chapters 1 & 2)

Fixed:
-Halos, UI

Remaining Issues:
-In some cutscenes, shadows are at the wrong depth

Installation:
  • -Download this ZIP file and extract the contents into the same directory that has the game's EXE file.
  • -Use Nvidia Inspector to assign "Doorways.exe" to the profile "3D-Hub Player". (For instructions on how to assign profiles, see this guide)
  • For the Steam Version run the game from the game directory (by double-clicking on "Doorways.exe")
  • Run the game and in the Option Menu, change your game resolution so that it matches your desktop resolution (If you want to set the game resolution to 1600x900, you must also change your desktop resolution to 1600x900, for example).

Additional Notes:
'Q' key has two convergence presets. Use the low depth preset when reading notes.

    1. I'm currently looking at it. I have everything fixed except for the cutscenes. If you want, I can upload the fix "as-is".

    2. no rush here, take your time :)
The problem for me, it's totally broken in 3D with ep 1&2. The Depth (green bars) is not even print on the screen...

    3. I just tried the game and the fix is currently working ok for me. I have the DRM-free version of the game (v1.1f). Try assigning "doorways.exe" to the profile "3D-Hub Player" (using Nvidia Inspector) and let me know if that fixes the problem.

    4. Underworld works fine but not chp 1&2 with "3D-Hub Player" profile. I have a luma version of the game

    5. It sounds like you are in Windowed Mode. In the options menu, make sure "Fullscreen" is enabled. Also you can try pressing 'Alt + Enter' to cycle between Windowed & Fullscreen. Let me know if you are still having issues.

    1. I don't currently own the game and it's likely beyond my (very limited) abilities. But I may check it out once it's out of beta.

    2. Philippe, Asseto Corsa is 3D ready (minor problem with rearview mirror only). What is your problem with it?

    3. Thanks for your comments : The clouds seem too close, and the roads tree and buildings tend to split, I can see two images. And mêmesijemodifie laconvergence is a shame because this simulator racing game is very good, the 3d cockpit view is very beautiful. Thank you for your help, if there is an opportunity to improve these poblèmes

    1. Try assigning "doorways.exe" to the profile "3D-Hub Player" (using Nvidia Inspector). Also, someone posted in another thread "If you are using SLI and there is no depth, disable SLI and this fix will work (I mean FULLY disable SLI, Forcing 'Single GPU' doesn't work)." I'll investigate the SLI issue further.

The system specs I tested this fix with: Windows 7 x64, Geforce drivers 344.65, single GPU (gtx 780 ti).

    2. My apologies if you've already did this, but make sure to enable Full Screen in the options menu (off by default). In windowed mode, all the shaders are messed up.

    3. This is great! I'll give it a try then. Is it the same for Underworld? Did you update that too?

    4. I updated this game. But Underworld didn't need any shader updates. With both games, run them from the game directory itself (double-click on Doorways.exe). Don't run this game from the Steam desktop shortcut or from the Steam interface. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  5. Ya, for the life of me couldn't get the Steam version to work either.
    -3D Hub Profile
-Win 7 Pro/64, 344.65, single 780ti, I have 2 but disabled sli and even disabled the card in Device Mgr.
-Disabled Steam Overlay and removed GameOverlayRenderer.dll(s)
    -Full Screen etc.

Hitting "Q" also did nothing, so it was like it was not even recognizing the fix. Oh, also ran without Steam running too, same deal.

Sooo, I decided to get a different DRM free version and bought one from Shinyloot. It's v1.1c. This version works fine. Seems the Steam version is v.1.2.

Also, on the Steam version, it's very laggy, and doesn't show the 3D-Hub profile in the lower right when you hit CTL-ALT-INS. Something odd happening, beyond my educational level on this.

Looks like v1.1c has a bunch of bugs that were fixed in d, e, and f.

I tried Underworld, same deal, Steam no go as v1.0b, and the Shinyloot version I bought was v1.0. v1.0 works fine.

Anyway, my attention span is such that I'm moving on, but I had to let you/other's know that as of this date, the current Steam versions don't seem to work, at least for 2 people ;-)

Thank you for all your other fixes :-) , and honestly, wouldn't fiddle further with this as who knows what the next update will bring.

    1. I'm really tempted to buy the Steam version just to see what's going on. Sorry for your troubles, djb, and thanks for giving me a heads up.

    2. Hey djb. Can you do me a favor? Try moving "steam_api.dll" and "SteamworksNative.dll" from the Doorways directory to another folder, and let me know if the fix works now.

I just tried the Steam version for Doorways Underworld and I verified that the fix wasn't working. But when I moved "steam_api.dll" and "SteamworksNative.dll" from the Doorways directory to another folder, the fix started working. I moved the two dll files back to the original directory and the fix still works ok. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling the game to see if I could duplicate the problem, but now I'm unable to.

    3. @4everAwake, no problem Man.

      For Doorways 1 & 2, with Steam (v1.2):
-I tried removing "steam_api.dll" and "SteamworksNative.dll", one at a time, from the Doorways directory, no difference, the fix doesn't kick in. I did the same things as above too, Single GPU, SLI and no SLI, Profile 3D-Hub, removing GameOverlayRenderer.dll(s). Full Screen, Alt-ENT, CTL-T, etc.

I get 3D, messed up shaders, and I am able to change depth and convergence using the function keys. What's kinda interesting is the wheel for depth on my IR emitter does not work, nor do I get the "green game profile" when I hit CTL-ALT-INS. Hitting "Q" obviously does nothing as the shader fix, for whatever reason isn't kicking in. I even tried Oculus Rift setting, which gave me the split screen, in broken 3D.

Also, just to make sure, I was at my Native 1280x720 PJ resolution, instead of any scaling from NV control panel. My system is fine as played Flashback last night, digging through easy 360 controller games here :-) Back to reality tomorrow!..

I'll try the Underworld here in a minute, but wanted to type this up so I don't confuse the two. Thanks,

    4. On Underworld, nope, tried all above (my Jan 4, 4:16 PM post), no difference and same symptoms. Tried removing the "steam_api.dll" and "SteamworksNative.dll" and putting them back. For whatever reason, the shader fix not being recognized? Sorry I can't be more help but I tried all I could think of. Let me know if you want to me try something else. No problem helping all you guys in that regard.

      Take care,

    5. One other observation, when both games are in 3D mode, after assigning 3D-Hub profile, and the games options are set to "full screen", when you ALT-ENTER to go back and forth in to Window mode, the 3D effect is the same. Anyway, Thanks for the efforts and sharing.

    6. Ok try one last time. This time, run the game from the directory itself by double clicking "Doorways.exe" and let me know what you get.

  6. Crap, I should have thought of that. :-),

Re: Doorways 1 & 2, no change, still doesn't work with Steam Version while starting the game direct "doorways.exe" without Steam running. Matter of fact the images themselves are a bit different even, the shadows seem to be coming out from the surface. Anyway, no on Steam version, yes on DRM free version.

Re: Doorways Underworld, Yes! The Steam Version works without Steam running, running "doorways.exe" direct from game directory. It works, obviously, with our without the "steam_api.dll" and "SteamworksNative.dll" files in the directory, since Steam isn't running. I tried running with Steam again afterward, and running Steam continues to break the fix.

So, yes, running doorways.exe, without Steam running, for Underworld works. One thing, be sure to tap the convergence 3 or 5 times for it to kick in correctly. This was on 1 gpu. It seemed to stutter a bit with sli.

Take care, and always willing to test stuff for you guys. Gonna be 6 years before I retire and have time to focus on helping with programming ;-) I know I'm gonna still be interested in games on the wall... Thanks again,

    1. I went ahead and bought the Steam version and discovered that in this version, many of the shaders have changed. Anyways, I updated the fix and it should work now. I really appreciate your help, djb!

    2. Thanks, both work great. I also set my steam option to "update when I launch game", and since I'm only going to play the game from the directory and not through the steam interface, it won't update for me, which is what I personally want as it works with this v. ! Anyway, appreciate it.

    1. Hi. I'm unable to duplicate your problem. I just tested the fix & everything works ok on my end. Maybe it has something to do with SLI? (I've heard with Unity games, you might have to disable SLI- I don't have SLI so I can't test). Also I'm using Windows 7 x64, if that makes any difference.

  8. Thank for your help, i didnt have sli but i was on surround, with one screen its work fine. but i wonder if its normal that depth \ convergance are locked in this game ?
