Introduction
This is a 3D Vision fix for Dragon Age Inquisition. At the time of the release of this fix, the game has many stability and performance problems running even in 2D, and particular problems in SLI. In stereo 3D the problems are even worse, not even counting the fact that game does not render correctly. This fix thus contains several "parts", only one of which is the actual shader fix for 3D rendering:
1. Driver settings
2. Game config settings
3. In-game graphics settings
4. 3DMigoto fix installation
5. Stability patch developed for widescreen gaming, which also helps with general game stability
6. SLI and profile settings
A lot of time went into investigating all of this, but since the game is so bugged it does not purport to be, and indeed is not, a flawless fix. You will most likely experience some stability issues and crashes, though we are certain that you will experience far less than without the guidance we provide.
We developed and tested this fix on the following setups:
1. OS: Win7
2. Nvidia Drivers: 344.75 and 347.09
3. Graphics Hardware: SLI and non-SLI GTX 700, GTX 760, GTX 780Ti and GTX 980
4. Resolutions: 1080p, 720p, 5240x1080
5. 3DTVPlay 720p@60Hz
In particular we did *not* develop or test for
1. Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 does seem to have issues with the game/drivers.
Over time, the developers may patch the game, and Nvidia may update drivers, that incrementally remove the need for some of the above steps until eventually only the 3DMigoto fix is required.
Screenshots
We think that the game looks 3DVision ready.Setup
I. Game Settings- Set the resolution and refresh rate to 60Hz and fullscreen.
- Disable V-Sync in game. This *may not* be necessary, but is the best starting point.
- Set Post-Process AA to OFF. This improves stability.
- TURN OFF MSAA. This causes a gray foggy effect.
- Set EFFECTS to ULTRA. otherwise water renders incorrectly. This does not impact performance much, if at all.
II. Windows Settings
- Set the Desktop resolution and refresh rate to the EXACT same size you are using to play the game, but use 120Hz refresh rate.
- Go to Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features). Select "View installed updates".
- In the List search for "KB2670838".
- Select it and UNISTALL IT!!
!!! WARNING: This will ALSO uninstall Internet Explored 11. If you are using it we suggest using a different browser like Chrome of Firefox.
- This will NOT affect any other GAME or program on your PC. !
- However - We cannot guarantee anything so do it on your own risk.
- Installing Internet Explorer 11 will put the Windows Update/Patch back, so nothing is lost.
III. Nvidia Drivers
- Go to http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/ and get the latest version of DDU.
- Run it and completely PURGE the system of nvidia drivers. (Use option 1. The PC
will go to SAFE-MODE and uninstall from there).
- Once the above is done restart in normal mode.
- Get the latest Beta Drivers 347.09 and run the wizard
- DO NOT INSTALL GEFORCE EXPERIENCE
- If want to use and optimize the game(s) with Geforce Experience install it,
optimize the game and then UNINSTALL IT! Failing to do so will result in
DirectX Errors.
- Open NVPANEL -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings and select the game.
Use these settings:
- Max pre-rendered frames: 3
- Power Mngmt : Maximum performance
- Shader Cache: OFF
- Rest leave default.
IV. Other Fixes required for stability
The following is REQUIRED for widescreen gaming, but we believe it helps with 1080p as well.
- In the download link provided below is a shortcut called "Launch FWS.lnk"
- Run the shortcut
- Enable the plugin and leave the App running. (Do not close it.)
- ** Remember to start this application each time you want to play DAI **
- This fix has 2 effects:
[SURROUND] - Gets rid of the pillarbox effect in cinematics, so now they render
on 3 screens.
[3D VISION] - Every time the game switches from Normal game to Cinematic
Mode a fixed Aspect Ratio and FOV is being applied. In doing this the engine also
deletes and creates new surfaces/buffers. By doing this the engine basically
changes RENDERING MODES. In turn it forces the 3D Vision driver to disable and
re-enable. Deleting/Creating buffers on the fly is probably one of the location
where the memory leak comes from.
[FIX]- The fix prevents this from happening by maintaining the same Aspect Ratio
and surfaces/buffers. So the Rendering context change doesn't take place and
thus preventing the engine from crashing.
V. 3DMigoto Options
- Once you have installed the patch as explained below open the d3dx.ini file:
- Look for :
[Constants]
x = 0.3 // HUD depth, positve [0 < x <=1] =in screen, 0=screen depth, negative [-1 <= x <0]=popout
y = 0 // Unused
z = 0.0 // SLI WHITE FOG correction! If set to 1.0 SLI correction is enabled!
w = 0.0 // Surround!!! If set to 1.0 Surround correction is enabled!
- Set z = 1.0 if you are using [SLI/SURROUND] to fix the WHITE FOG, if you experience it.
- Set w = 1.0 for Surround UI corrections [SURROUND]. (The UI is centered in
Surround and requires different corrections).
- Set x = value - to adjust the WHOLE UI depth.
VI. SLI and Profile Selection
During development, we found almost no consistency in how the game behaved with SLI enabled. We suggest the following steps:
1. Disable SLI in control panel while you first setup and install the fix.
2. Get the game running and be sure the fix is kicking in (shadows fixed etc)
3. Re-enable SLI
4. Re start the game and look at what you see. It will either be just the same as the non-SLI case, or it will look like crap. There is no middle ground.
5. If the game looks like crap, exit the game and then, using nvidia inspector remove DragonAgeInquisition.exe from the Dragon Age Inquisition profile, and then add it to the Battlefield 4 profile. Save the changes and exit.
6. Make the appropriate changes the BF4 profile as mentioned above for the DAI profile in Nvidia control panel
7. Restart the game and it should all work perfectly.
8. If it does not, either (a) play in non-SLI (sorry, we can't do everything), or (b) experiment with different profiles and report in the Comments section if you have any luck
In testing, we also found that the AC4 profile works as long as you copy the BF4 DX10 SLI bits across. So if you have issues with BF4, try that one, remembering to make the same control panel settings for AC4 (ie. shader cache off etc)
VII. Game Stability issue.
- Game crashes OR disables the FIX during loading screens. To avoid this:
1. Open regedit and set the following keys to:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\StereoDefaultOn = 0
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\StereoDefaultONSet = 1
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\EnableWindowedMode = 1
2. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY OTHER WINDOW OPENED BEFORE STARTING THE GAME!
3. Quick travel to a location or trigger a loading screen.
4. Let the game load until it reaches the Cards Loading screen.
5. Once the CARDS appear on the Screen count to 2 and ALT+TAB to Windows.
6. Count to 2 again and ALT+TAB back in the game.
7. Once the game is LOADED press CTRL+T to enable 3D Vision back.
VIII. Run the game with Shader Cache ON.
It is possible to run the game with the shader Cache on (which will reduce loading times drastically).
Steps:
1. Make a BAT file and paste this code:
- del "C:\Users\Helifax\AppData\Local\Temp\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache\"* /Q /S /F
- "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\DragonAgeInquisition.exe"
2. UPDATE THE ABOVE CODE WITH YOUR PATHS!!!
3. Start the game using this BAT file.
Installation: 3D Migoto Wrapper
1. Download the 3DMigoto v12 fix here1.1 Alternate fix here (reported as improved)
2. Unzip it into the games .exe directory e.g. for me this is "E:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition"
3. Go through all the steps described above in Setup.
4. Start the Flawless Widescreen link (it will put a little icon in the tray)
5. Start game
Installation: Flugan Wrapper
1. Download the version using Flugan wrapper here2. Unzip it into the games .exe directory e.g. for me this is "E:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition"
3. Go through all the steps described above in Setup.
4. Start the Flawless Widescreen link (it will put a little icon in the tray)
5. Start game
NOTE The Flugan wrapper is maintained separately to 3DMigoto, so if you use it please check back at Flugans OneDrive to keep up with the latest version.
Installation: 2D Fog Correction
We provide the following fix for 2D users to fix the SLI white fog problem. This changes the opacity and colour slightly.1. Download the fix here
2. Make sure to uninstall the 3D fix if you have it installted by running the uninstall.bat file
3. Unzip it into the games .exe directory e.g. for me this is "E:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition"
4. Start game
Known Issues
Aside from all the known performance and stability issues with the game, the following are important when playing with this fix:- We have not played the full game yet, and there will most probably be parts of the game that need fixing still, the odd light shader or decal, and possibly some "fog" errors.
- The skybox when outside has a visible border at the edges. We have not worked out how to fix this.
- Water: some reflections are a bit off, and some flowing water effects are a bit off. As noted at the top of this post, set EFFECTS to ULTRA to fix this.
- Windows 8.1 has lots of issues, and we can't feasibly spend any time working it out since none of us use Win 8.1
SLI: If the game runs but sometimes does not seem to load all the shaders, go into the shaderfixes folder and delete all the .bin files. Then restart the game and they will be regenerated (this will take between 2-5 minutes, so be patient).
Drivers: Whereas 347.09 seems to have better performance, we have found that 344.65 has less issues with the "not loading all shaders" problem, so we recommend you try this if you have trouble.
Just a note to say that it will be preferable if feedback is given here rather than on the Nvidia Forum. Thanks !
ReplyDeleteLooks good.
ReplyDeleteTBH I only recommend SLI if playing at 1440+ / widescreen.
Not even considering graphical issues, you get very inconsistent framerate.
Hi eqzitara - There are still some issues using BF4 profile (occasionally the odd shader does not render), but it does give great scaling - I am running between 50-60 FPS with few dips, on High setting. This is to be contrasted with the game default profile (which is borked) or other profiles which "work" (like Lord of the Fallen) in which framerate varies from 25-60 and bounces between them like a yo-yo as you simply turn around on the spot. In non-SLI I was averaging 30-35 FPS on medium, with some lower dips, and that was not playable for me, so I will tolerate the odd random shader error for a silky smooth experience :-) What kind of performance are you seeing on your 970s?
DeleteScales well but the dips are to the points of stutter. The dips are to the point where it drops below single card minimum usage.
Deletehello
DeleteWith SLI i get terrible 3D, so i have switched to bf4 profile and the game still shows terrible 3d. I disabled SLI and it looks great, i'm not sure what to do next because I need sli to play due to bad fps.
Looks so good. Thanks guys!
ReplyDeleteI verified that it does work using 3DTVPlay, 720p@60Hz :-)
ReplyDeleteYou guys are the best... Christmas has come early! I'm testing on Windows 8.1 with 3DTVPlay and no dice for me (gets through the 2-3 minute shader caching then crashes). Not sure if it is indeed Windows 8.1 or just me doing something wrong, given Mike's success with 3DTVPlay. I am having the annoying issue where even in 2D I can't seem to get the game to actually display at 1280x720x60 on my BenQ projector... the projector always reads the signal as a 1280x800 signal. I've had this issue before and feel like I had to use a EDID override, but can't quite remember. I'm hoping this is the source of my crashes, and I'll see if I can figure it out and report back.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm fairly sure that's your issue - the game seems sensitive to differing resolutions in game and in desktop. I did my testing on my monitor (using my laptop) so did not get this issue - I can try my projector tomorrow.
DeleteThanks, Mike. Just following up to post that per the messages below pertaining Windows 8.1, I'm thinking my issue is actually just due to Windows 8.1. Despite my projector not cooperating with 720p, I was able to get 3D Vison to properly engage at 1920x1080@24hz, but still get crashes with the fix. Time to setup a dual boot I guess :)
DeleteHappy to say that 3DTV Play works. But a couple of issues that I've found:
ReplyDelete1. *minor spoiler* after you kill the first boss and wake up in the room, on the way to the chapel/church there are still a couple of things rendered in 2D. Not a big deal as reloading fixed it but it was odd that the shadows worked and some parts didn't.
2. If I enable msaa everything becomes horribly foggy and I can't see anything. Going into tactical view and looking at the lowest point from it renders a very shadowy image without the fog (kinda like the game limbo, shadowy outlines)
3. If I set the mesh quality to 1 notch below ultra (very high I think) [2nd highest one basically] there are a couple of 2d weapons rendered. Issue goes away at highest mesh setting.
4. On the second stage where it's all grassy and such the moment I move my camera there's a fog everywhere except for the very edge of the screen (due to separation I think). I don't have SLI and even with the z=1 setting enabled it's still in the game. It's a lighter kind of fog compared to the msaa one where I can kind of see my character but I still can't see much of anything. No way to cancel it except for going into tactical mode and looking at the lowest ground position.
The first level looked absolutely fantastic though, I spent a solid 40% of the game time appreciating the graphics.
Hi thanks for the report. I think I know what the fog issue is, but if there is a way for you to get me a save game that will be quickest. There is particular shader fix that I wrote a script for, and its fixed a few shaders that don't need to be fixed, caused the fog/gray problem.
DeleteI found the fog shader "f1fbe4a862dbbf70-vs_replace" that when selected in hunting mode removes the fog. But there's also no skybox now. And this shader "58a75ecccb46f300-vs_replace" responsible for the 2D weapon sections that I've mentioned earlier. Turns out that this occurs when I reload the game regardless of the mesh quality.
DeleteNot sure if this will help or not but here's a part from my d3d11 log that you might find useful:
Delete">Replacement shader found. Re-Loading replacement HLSL code from f1fbe4a862dbbf70-vs_replace.txt
Reload source code loaded. Size = 1427

Thanks for this feedback. I checked that shader and it's actually fine. I have seen errors like this as a result of the wrapper not quite loading all shaders correctly (this is probably one manifestation of the problem). I'll keep an eye on it though.
DeleteWow, that's super weird. If that's not actually a syntax error in the code, that would imply some sort of pre-emption while the code is being compiled, breaking the process and generating an error. It looks like this is no longer part of the fix though, so maybe that was a one-off. Let me know if this is still happening, and I can fix it.
Delete3dtvplay works now opposed to alpha fix on github! Msaa however causes image to have some sort of fog covering the entire screen, making it basically just a white screen. Not sure if msaa works with 120hz 3d vision displays but it was buggy on my setup.Btw why is post process AA not supported? Control panel fxaa unsupported too? Thanks a million for the fix!
ReplyDeleteps: 720p 3dtv users, frostbite has native downsampling if your setup can manage it, open console and write Render.ResolutionScale x.x (1.0 equals native resolution, pretty sure 1.5 from 720p is 1080p and 2.0 is 1440p)
Just to clarify few points. Downsampling required me to restart game, caused same sort of bug that alt-tabbing does. Not sure if it will cause any more troubles down the road, propably safer to leave that alone. And what i meant by "why is post AA not supported" is will it cause stability problems or 3d artifacts or something like that? Because from what i saw at the beginnging it worked as intented and i would prefer to leave it on since msaa was borked.

ReplyDeleteAs I feared it might not work with Windows 8.1
Installed the patch and followed the instructions as posted. When the game gets ready to run after waiting a few minutes I see the cursor flash once or twice and then exits to desktop without an error message. I made sure I had no other programs running like EVGA Precision that might be causing the issue. Thanks for the work guys and hopefully others can enjoy this game in 3D on other versions of Windows.
All mods/wrappers don't work with 8.1
DeleteSweetfx is the only one that "kinda" works. Its an extremely long complicated procedure.
http://www.overclock.net/t/1485750/how-to-use-sweetfx-in-windows-8-1
Not saying it to be a dick but I doubt there is anything bo3b or anyone could do.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteCan you explain me what happens if we don't use the Helix fix ?
thanks
ReplyDeleteBravo all you 3D Gurus!
ReplyDeleteThe fix worked for about 10 minutes, except my framerate went down to 16 while playing the initial beginning stage in Haven with one of my new characters. So i figured i would try loading my level 5 character in the lush Hinterlands. the game loaded in glorious full 3D at 120hz, yet as soon as i tried to move a gray filter went over everything! So i checked the display settings, it is outputting at 144 hz or 119.998002 hz. i tried to change it to 120 hz in the profile ini a few times but it just reverts back to 144, or 119! Now the game is totally messed up, fog and darkness everywhere. The only thing i didnt do was delete my driver and use the newest one, i thought i could get away with 344.75 which was already installed. I guess now i will have to delete everything and start from scratch. Oh well, i'm sure it is something i overlooked or fooled with, i adjusted the quality in graphics settings in game i get some fps back, that was all. Oh, if i am running a single display in non-SLI mode in 3D Vision do i still need to use FWS?
I just wanna say that in the brief glimpse i had of your DX11 fix, it looked truly magnificent!
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK EVERYONE!
btw I am using a single 120 hz display with one GTX 980.
Please redownload fix. We corrected the fog in the hinterlands (we hope).
DeleteNote that the initial scene in Haven is a killer. If you are on High or Ultra, getting 16 FPS is expected unfortunately, not to do with the fix, although with a 980 I am kinda amazed its that bad for you (but these cards have real issues with this game anyway, see nvidia forums). I could not believe it either. Are you using the BF4 profile by the way?
For the GRAY filter problem. Delete the

shader. That one is responsible for the GRAY effect on the whole screen.
Forgot to say is located in ShaderFixes folder ^_^.
DeleteThanks very much for all the hard work it does look awesome. No luck here however with deleting those files unfortunately. Still getting the greyness.
DeleteWill try tonight thanks Master H!
ReplyDelete** Fix updated to v2. Should correct the greyness in the Hinterlands. Redownload.
ReplyDeleteHello ! Thanks for the fix ppl, awesomw work !
ReplyDeleteI already have Greyness in the Hinterlands with V2. Will try now to regenerate bins without SLI Fix.
Neither :_(
DeletePls tell me it worked for u?
DeleteI installed v2 but i didn't delete the old shader cache until after i loaded the game again by accident. So i am still getting fog in the Hinterlands only. And only when i use the right thumbstick to pan the view the fog kicks in...
see link for 3D screenshots: http://photos.3dvisionlive.com/blubberduck86/
@blubberduck - are you on SLI? Are you using the BF4 profile? Can you provide me a save game?
DeleteNo SLI, just one trusty GTX 980 SC output to a single 120hz 3D Vision Monitor.
DeleteYou mean attach a .DAS save file to a GE-Force forum post?
Oh, sorry, i thought only SLI users had to use the BF4 profile? No i never used the BF4 profile. :')
Delete@blubberduck - yeah post in the forums :-) Also, sorry I missed the fact that you are non-SLI, but try the profile anyway, you never know. I used in non-SLI and there are no detrimental effects. I posted in the forum that the fact that this happens only when you move the controller stick suggests that this is some other way in which the game is affecting the wrapper loading shaders. If it was the shader, it would always be visible. Still a save game will help us look at this :-)
DeleteHi I'm having the same problem as you blubberduck, I turn all the graphic setting down to low and even disconnected the xbox controller, but I still get the grey fog in the Hinterlands. Just like you it loads up fine but as soon as I rotate the camera the fog appears. I will trying the BF4 profile and see it that helps next. I'm also not running the game in SLI mode.
DeleteThis game is amazing when its running in 3d and everything works, mike_ar69, Helifax & bo3b have done a great job even to get it this far.
Ok , I just tried with the BF4 profile and the problem is still there...... such a shame.
DeleteDoesn't work with Windows 8.1 , game just crashes. How do I uninstall the fix completely, it seems to overwritten some files.
ReplyDeleteJust delete what was installed (look in the original fix zip). What has been overwritten?
Deleted3dcompiler_46.dll it seems. Alpha version doesn't have it.
DeleteThanks, don't delete that one then. Or if you do, you can verify the game files in Origin and it will redownload. I just added in the Uninstall.bat to the release files, and that does delete that file, so that will cause an issue. I'll double check and update the files (again lol)
DeleteOK the uninstall file does not delete this one (someone else had already sorted that one :-). The initial overwrite does not matter, this is a DX file, not a game file, we don't create it, just provide it as a resource the wrapper decompiler uses. It is important that you don't delete it though, but if you did you can it back from the fix zip file.
DeleteI am sorry the game/fix is not working on 8.1, but this game is so screwed in so many ways at the moment, we don't have time/resources to track it all down. If I were you, and you really like this game, set up a small partition (200GB say) and put Win7 on it, then run the game from there. When I first moved to Win 7 I did that with XP until things fully transitioned.
Might wait and sit this one out lol. Setting up a Windows 7 partition on my already small SSD, just for one game, isn't feasible for me. Besides, Windows 10 is just around the corner, whatever is causing the issue between 3DMigito, Frostbite and Windows 8 forward is going to have to be eventually resolved (hopefully lol).
DeleteJust a heads up- I presently have no plans to put any effort into Win10. It's not a good use of my limited time to make it work on all these brain-dead Windows variants. It comes down directly to me spending time working around their bugs, or adding new features to 3Dmigoto, and I think adding new features is far more important. You need to decide what is most important to you before you 'upgrade.'
DeleteIt's open-source, anyone else is welcome to put in their time to fix OS incompatibilities.
Appreciate the hard work, but please re-consider upgrading your OS for future projects. On Windows 7: 1440p and 4K HD monitors do not run well (FPS), anything above 60Hz gets bottle-necked for most games, SSDs are slower and harder to setup, and most importantly Maxwell nVidia cards & intel i7 5XXX components are faster on Win8.1 according to benchmarks.
DeleteActually that performance improvement on 8.1 is a myth. If you dig into the numbers they are the same. For 1440p I can buy that it's better, but 4K 3D gaming doesn't exist, so I'm not sure why that matters. For 2D gaming what you say might be true, but for 3D gaming, which is what we care about here, there are significant disadvantages to 8.1.
DeletePlease show me a benchmark that demonstrates an improvement.
Please see this thread for more discussion of this:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/799406/3d-vision/game-fixes-win7-vs-win8-1-vs-win10/
The engine does operate better with 8.1 but in the grand scheme of things its like a fraction.
DeleteThough its the only game/engine I've ever heard of it. To many compatibility issues with 8.1.
Gonna call out a few things though....
Saying that an OS CAN bottleneck a gaming system is INSANE though.
Saying SSD's are harder to set up is INSANE. Why would a manufacture one when Windows 7 is still the most popular OS by a LARGE percentitle.
This unfortunately is the first software that doesn't run in Windows 8.1. I appreciate the hard work but come on.. why are you so opposed to W8.1? I like it and W7 feels so backward. I am not going to create a partition and go back to the past just for this game.
Delete*sadly removes 3D glasses*
They didn't say they were opposed to W8. They said they don't use windows 8. I appreciate all the hard work these guys are doing for free and wouldn't expect them to go out and buy a W8 license just for me.
DeleteI was using W8 and I definitely prefer W8. I did downgrade everything to Windows 7 just for Dragon Age Inquisition in 3d. It works. It's awesome. It was worth it for me.
Yes, let's be clear that none of us are against Win 8.1, it's just that Win 7 works better. It comes down to time. The game runs fine on Win7 with our fix. If we spend our time (our personal time, let's remember) on fixing whatever is going wrong in 8.1, then that's less time we have to fix other games, improve the tools, write documentation, help other people learn how to shader hack, you name it.
DeleteI'd like to see it work on 8.1 too, but it's pretty low value work for a single game, and there is no guarantee that it can even be done.
From my perspective- why are you willing to spend my personal time to fix something that already has a clear workaround? If you want it to work on 8.1, why don't you take a look at the crash? I'm happy to take a look at the Stack Crawl for the crash, but so far, no one else is willing to put in any time.
anyone gets the fix to work with Windows 8?
ReplyDeletei'm also interesting in 8.1 :)
DeleteDoes not work in 8.1 apparently. Sorry, there is only so much we can do :-(
DeleteSomeone else suggested using the Win7 compatibility mode on the exe. Worth a try. Let us know if you try it.
Delete** FIX UPDATED TO V3. MORE FOG, SOME GLARE, ADDED IN UNINSTALL.BAT.
ReplyDeleteF#%CKING AWESOME MAN!
DeleteV3 works damn fine thank u sire!
Im on the grey filter over all...
ReplyDeleteIts possible to fix this?
How can i do it?
Edit.
DeleteIm fixed...
Just turn off msaa ... Everything its fine now... Thanks !!
Youre the 3d vision soul at all

ReplyDeleteYou guys are truly the soul of this community. Greatly appreciated for what you guys have been doing. Thank you!
ReplyDeletev3 seems to work quite well on my end. Fantastic. :))
i ve got more crashes under beta v3 than alpha. Strange. But without your fix the game kill my cpu overclocked. never see that lol
ReplyDeletewon't work on windows 8 and 8.1 (they are different though the same result in this case) . game just doesn't start (after a while of shader caching)
ReplyDeletetested it on 7 and the game loaded in 3D surround. however, the game crashed during character creation. then I enabled V-Sync in game setting since I noticed screen tearing. the game proceeded past character building and all the cut scenes worked beautifully.
so, is it necessary to turn off V-sync? it seems to help my game to be more stable.
won't be able to play the again until tomorrow though~ will report back if there's any greyness or white fog issues.
I installed it on my system that now has Windows 7 64-bit SP1 and it works for me now!
ReplyDeleteI do notice that if I enable SLI the game seems to render textures and such only in one eye. This is with the default SLI profile that was part of the 347.09 driver set. It already has SLI bits defined as BF4. I will try to see if there is any way to enable SLI without that issue. I made sure to disable all the effects as listed above. At least the opening section that I played through I have good framerates with a single 980 GTX cards - it pretty much stayed pegged at 60 FPS or close to it.
If anyone has a way to play in SLI without the bug please post it here.
I'm using SLI with 680 GTX's and I had the same problem you have. Changing to BF4 profile fixed it completely for me even though the default profile already has the BF4 bits, so there seems to be some other differences in the profiles.
DeleteOh and if you still have problems, don't forget to do the changes mentioned in the op also for the BF4-profile (shader cache, pre-rendered frames).
DeleteI had same problem as you, here is what I did.
DeleteDisabled any overlays - MSI AB, Origin in game overlays.
Removed the game exe from DAI profile via nvidia inspector
Added it to the BF4 profile
Launched the game with Compatibility mode "off"
When it loaded a saved game it was messed up!
Quit the game and reloaded it and it has been good every time I've launched it!
Oh, I also renabled MSI AB once it was working.
Ah, I see what I was doing wrong. I assumed just making sure the SLI bits for BF4 were being used is all I needed to do. I added the game's executable to BF4's profile and now I works properly. According to EVGA Precision I am utilizing both cards doing this.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Performance-wise, I'm getting pretty good results. Just as a data point for comparison purposes.
ReplyDeleteWin7 x64, 344.75, SLI 760 4G, i5-4670K, 8G, 720p projector.
With all setting on Ultra, except for AA off, low Post Processing as required, I'm getting 60 fps, even outdoors.
During a small fight near a rift, I took the following 1m fraps:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
3505, 60000, 47, 61, 58.417
So Min frame rate of 47, average 58, during that smallish fight.
Also of note, I can alt-tab out and back in without crashing.
Game will sometimes drop out of 3D, and if I alt-tab out, then back in, it will most often be back in 3D.
Are you using the BF4 profile with SLI enabled?
DeleteYes, just assigned directly to BF4 profile. Did not modify the profile.
DeleteWhen using Nvidia Inspector and changing the profile to use BF4, should DAI be using 3D Comparability Mode "On" or "Off"? It defaults to on you see...
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Off of course. Helix and 3Dmigoto fixes conflict with Compatibility Mode. And, if you have a real fix, why would you ever use CM?
DeleteOn first run of the game, you want to set it off using Ctrl-Alt-F11.
I found a shader issue: https://db.tt/kWAalZ9j
ReplyDeleteLocation Skyfall Camp. Also with 2xGTX Titan Z's I get 30fps max (fps in screenshots too)
Thanks for this. That is an issue where the shaders did not load - you can tell this by the fact that the HUD/UI is 2D as well as the shadows. When that happens you need to quit and restart the game.
DeleteWe have been trying driver 344.65 because this seems to not have the "not loading shaders" problem (or at least much less of it). I've been having the exact problem you have using 344.75 and 347.09, but switching to 344.65 it has not been happening (yet).
Please try this.
Not sure what to say about the FPS - the game runs shite in 3D for everyone, especially SLI. Given the issues the game has, have you tried using just one of the Titan-Z's? It would not surprise me at all if the driver can't handle quad sli (though the frostbite engine is supposed to be super scalable across processors and graphics cards...).
DeleteLook on the SLI forums for progress on the SLI issue, we can only do what we can to find some work arounds and try and reduce crashes. Please post back with any experiementation you do to solve this problem. Thanks.
3D compatibility Mode has to be "ON" if using BF4 profile, if this is "OFF" frame-rate will be reduced massively... bob can you test this from your end and if its the same add it to the notes?
ReplyDeleteNo - CM mode is an *alternative* solution provided by Nvidia to this 3DMigoto fix. If you want to use CM, you need to uninstall the whole fix provided here.
DeleteCM is not "true" stereo, it's a post processing approach which is why it has much less impact on framerates. The general consensus is that while it is not entirely bad, it is significantly less good than a full 3D solution (which is what the 3DMigoto fix is). Issues witth it are very low depth, capped convergence (so things go flat against a plane just popping out from the screen, halos around objects, UI/hud is pasted at whatever the scene depth is). You need to decide between one or the other. If you are really having no luck with this fix, and want to wait until the game is patched and/or the SLi drivers are updated, you could use CM, but you *must* uninstall 3DMigoto first because of course our shader modifications still get applied and this will affect lights and shadows in CM.
Does the max pre-rendered frames: 3 in the notes, conflict with the user.cfg which says: RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 2??
ReplyDeleteI would not think so so, as long as max pre-rendered frames is greater than ForceRenderAheadLimit - the Nvidia setting is a "max" so as long as that's big enough for what the game wants to use it should be OK. Others more knowledgeble as to how these things work may provide a better or different answer, but intuitively I don;t think it's a problem.
DeleteDoes it work with 3dm crack?
ReplyDeleteAre you hav'n a laugh?
DeleteNo, I'm asking
DeleteIf you have SLI problems make sure Origin overlay is off, and when using the BF4 profile make sure you add the changes listed in the fix shader cache ect.
ReplyDeleteThe origin overlay in particular breaks the 3D rendering.
Ah thanks! what shader cache fix? I cant find that.
Deletefrom the setup instructions:
ReplyDelete"- Open NVPANEL -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings and select the game.
Use these settings:
- Max pre-rendered frames: 3
- Power Mngmt : Maximum performance
- Shader Cache: OFF
- Rest leave default."
They don't mention these changes also must be applied to the Bf4 profile. oh and be sure to turn off CM mode
game works fine when i play in a map but is it normal when i want change map, crash game and back to desktop ?
ReplyDeleteYes. This is the basic issue with the game right now.
DeleteThanks for reply and thanks again for this patch, its awesome. Merry christmas guys
DeleteI just want to thank you guys for all the hard work you put in. I think Nvidia should be giving you guys hardware since you are doing so much to push their product.
ReplyDeletewhich other profile can i use? shadows are all messed up. with or witouht bf4 :(
ReplyDeleteIf shadows are messed up, you either did not install properly, or the game is having trouble starting properly. Only thing to do is experiment with your setup to find the right combo.
DeleteMike? Bo3b? anyone?
ReplyDeleteNo offense mate but why don't you try a few yourself and report back to us? We can't do everything.
DeleteAs it happens, I did find that AC4 works as long as you copy across the BF4 DX10 SLI bits. As does Lords of the Fallen.
Another thing you should do in this situation is go into the shaderfixes folder and delete all the ".bin" files and let the game regenerate them. I have found this has solved similar issues many times (because I keep changing and fixing stuff I naturally keep screwing up my configuration)
**** Update to v4 has been posted.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update - have a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteFor me the game is crashing when i try to change map.
I click on World Map, select a destination and click travel
Then the 3D is like reloading several times, creating a 3cm black line ont the right and i'm returning to desktop
AC4 profile w BF4 bits
i deactivated SLI
drivers : release 347.09
Krds
Driver issue. It crashes (when traveling) with or without the fix when 3D Vision is enabled in NVPanel.
DeleteReport it to nvidia as a bug.
Thanks for info.
DeleteI've made some searchs but it seems not possible : Is there any method to launch the game with drivers older than 340.52 ?
I have issues with wow in 3d vision sli in many drivers excpet 344.48 but this one is making AC4 crash :/
Always had a better xp with old 332.23 driver but origin prevent game launch ...
Hey, I'm not sure what's wrong with my setup, but I'm having trouble getting it to work.
ReplyDeleteI was running windows 8.1, so I installed Win7 on a second partition in order to play this.

Thanks bob, this also affected me :) I'll wait for this update.. cheers.
DeleteOK, update for this error. Use this version of 3Dmigoto:
Deletehttps://github.com/bo3b/3Dmigoto/releases/download/0.99.25-beta/3Dmigoto-0.99.25.zip
This includes the bug fix to properly find other drives. Tested this in DA:I and it worked as expected.
Use the x64 DLLs from this zip, but keep the other pieces of Mike's fix, including his d3dx.ini.
Please let me know if this doesn't fix the problem for you.
That worked! Thank you!
DeleteI had put my playing on hold when I saw that a fix was being made for the 3d. It looks great!
Awesome, thanks for letting me know. Enjoy!
Deletecan anyone confirm that any cracked version of the game is working for him with the fix?
ReplyDeleteActually the v4 shows the fps on screen... how can i dissable this for imo?
ReplyDeletethanks... merry chrismas
Hi
ReplyDeleteThere is a user.cfg in the root folder of dragon Age Inquisition, open it and change this:
PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1
To this
PerfOverlay.DrawFps 0
thank you... it works
Deleteanyone here is playing cracked version with the fix fully working ?
ReplyDeleteBecause almost no one here uses a cracked version. It's already fairly unstable without adding in the extra confusion of a crack.
DeleteWord on the forum is that the cracked version of the game does work with this fix.
i see. thank you!!!
Deletei don't understand why no one is answering?....
ReplyDeleteBecause no one knows who you are ("anonymous") or what the fuck you are talking about.
DeleteHeu, Fix users Windows 8.1 64 bit ?!
ReplyDeleteSorry, it's a game bug that we have no control over. To play this one, your only options are to dual-boot a Win7 install, or use CM.
DeleteOk, thanks you for your job ;)
DeleteHey Guys.
ReplyDeleteI see you have released V4! Nice.
I have gone back to 4K 2D output across 3 screens and am back up to 38 fps WOOT WOOT!
But i would really like to use all the screen space, so i am wondering if the FWS would work without the fix installed? I tried it but it doesnt extend. Do i have to install ALL features of the fix to get the benefits of Helifax's hard work with FWS?
Im sorry to be such a pain in the @$$.
I now realize why everyone has an SLI config!
Update: I had to set the display detection manually in FWS config settings to 3840 x 1200... Now it works just fine! Just wish the main menu was without the bars... Oh well, nbd. :')
DeleteThe menu is with bars (main menu) because is a recorded video on a loop. Is not actually rendered in-game ^_^.
DeleteGot it., thx bro!
DeleteOh, Master H have u had any issues with 3D Multiplayer? I have noticed the only way i can get a decent match going is if i host the game, otherwise i get rubberbanding and lag like a MF! And i have tried this on over a dozen matches! I have a 20 mbps connection so i know i'm good. The only thing i can think of is maybe because i output my game in 3K across multiple monitors or 120hz 3D at 1080p the other players connection has a hard time matching graphics or resolutions? IDK. Any thoughts?
Hehe... you are using the 60 FPS cinematics command line argument aren't you?
DeleteThat is a known issue. If you remove those from the shortcut/Origin than the game should behave correctly;))
Let me know if this was the issue;))
Last I checked I didn't had any problems with MP. The only problem was that since the shader cache is disabled in NVPANEL it will take longer to load the game and you will be spawned at the first door.
Sorry for being late H i just read this.
Deleteyes indeed sir i do use the command line - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\DragonAgeInquisition.exe" -GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+`
And i get 50-60 fps in cut scenes! It's nice...
Well, at this point i have no issues with DAI at all, no crashes or anything, stable core clock at 1418 after the overclock finally worked. I played the game today for like 6 hours in 2D (3648 x 1152 @60hz) and not once did it crash. But MP is unbearable unless i host, i will delete the command line and check MP and report back. Thanks!
OK i enabled the shader cache (not using the sweet v4 fix at this time... :'(
Deleteand deleted the command line from the shortcut, the first MP was lagging and rubberbanding, then i played another which seemed OK, so i think your suggestion worked! Either that or the shader cache being enabled in CP... Just out of curiousity, if one is not using the fix is it a lighter load on the CPU if max pre rendered frames is set at 1 or 3 or 0?
-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60+
DeleteIs an official statement on Bioware Forums saying that THIS command will introduce RUBBERBANDING in Multiplayer and not to use it in MP.
I think is a sticky even in the Tech Support part of the forums.
Shader Cache (NVPANEL) if disabled will introduce longer loading times. But I am using the fix to play in MP as well. On my machine it introduces around 5-10 extra seconds on loading.
The max prerendered frames are used to make the 3D driver work "correctly" more times than normal. If I set it to 1 for ex 3/10 I get the driver displaying the images correctly.
Hope it helps;)
Sweet! Yeah the MP runs fine now after deleting the command line... :')
DeleteSo just to confirm, i should use pre rendered frames at 1 for 3D and maybe 3 for 2D?
I'm gonna try out your V5 fix today, i really wish i could use ultra and still get 30+ fps but i know its not gonna happen. Any suggestions on how to squeeze more than 30fps in 3D Vision at 1080P?
This is my CP profile for DAI:
http://www.wsgf.org/gallery/dragon-age-inquisition-using-gtx-980-sc?img=DAIProfile.png
Sorry i couldnt post the individual URLs.
Sorry, i forgot to change the settings back to your 3D instructions, they were set to my 3K WS output in 2D, but besides the pre rendered frames, and shader cache whatta ya think?
DeleteThanks for all your help bud. :'D
I should say 1 pre rendered frame for 2D and 3 for 3D of course. Been up all night gotta crash.
DeleteI had much more luck with pre-rendered frames set to 3. (both on SLI and on my laptop->single GPU). If I set it to 1 most of the times the wrapper is disabled for me :( (for some weird reason...)...
DeleteSoo... use what works best for you;))
DeleteHi All
ReplyDeleteSorry for the offtopic, (how) can we request a game here in this blog?
it is ' shadows: heretic kingdoms', almost unplayable in current state
Sorry again and thanks for the help/info
Just wanted to say a big thank you to mike_ar69, Helifax, and bo3b for all your past and ongoing efforts to make these fixes possible. No where else have I been able to find a solution to the show stopping non transparent white fog problem with SLI. 3DMigoto resolves it 8). I do wish this fix would work with Win 8.1 but as suggested, dualbooting to a Win 7 installation was only a minor inconvenience. The suggestion to add the .exe to BF4 profile has indeed eliminated almost all of the texture flickering. It still shows up on occasion but very infrequently, just as it still does in BF4. Thank you all very much!
ReplyDeleteWin 7 x64
2 x GTX 580 (SLI)
Did you do this?
Deletez = 0.0 // SLI WHITE FOG correction! If set to 1.0 SLI correction is enabled!
What is your frame rate in SLI may I ask?
DeleteWith 3DVision it's gotta be over 30 fps right?
Pls give me some hope!
@bo3b
DeleteYes z = 1.0 works great :) in all areas so far.
@blubberduck86
Because I always play with vsync enabled my framerate is capped at 60 and that is what I am getting 90% of the time
Occasionally and in certain places it dips down into the 50s.briefly. Possibly during texture loads or other unoptimized crap.

ReplyDeletewould this fix the fog issue in 2d too? So I could use this fix for SLI in 2d mode?
ReplyDeleteYes. Just press ctrl-t to turn off 3d.
Deleteawesome! I'll try it when I get home. Way to go guys, fixing things that bioware/nvidia seemingly can't, or can't be bothered anyway.
DeleteIs there a performance hit in 2d?
DeleteYes it fixed the fog issue in 2d ( I run 2 x GTX 580s SLI )
DeleteThere is performance -improvement- due to SLI of course.
The fix does not reduce performance in any way I can perceive.

ReplyDeleteHey guys i was gonna try the V5 fix later on but curiosity got the better of me. When i try to boot up the game i keep getting a system error: "The program cant start because D3DCOMPILER_46.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Even though i am staring at the file in the folder in front of me. just copied everything from the download into my game folder where the exe file is. I was running V3 fix just fine when you folks released it the other day, now this? I did however delete the fix and go back to multiple monitor 2D gameplay for the last few days... I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated, i tried to install both V4 & 5, will try V3 and report back.
BTW, when i uninstall using the batch file and then boot up the game it runs fine. Albeit with broken 3D and no fix installed...
DeleteUPDATE: I went into the V3 Fix (thank the Maker i kept it) and grabbed the D3DCOMPILER_46.dll file that was not in the V4 or V5 fixes, maybe because said versions were updates of V3? Now it works!
DeleteNo, earlier versions of the fix included the d3dcompiler_46.dll, and should not have. The game itself installs that compiler, and we now avoid installing or deleting it.
DeleteThe d3d ini is missing from v5 (useful for logging). Is that on purpose?
ReplyDeleteLooks correct to me. Use uninstall.bat to clean the game directory. Reinstall cleanly from a fresh download.
Deletethanks for v6
ReplyDeleteHello
ReplyDeleteI can start the game. In the menu i click on "new game". Then i choose the class of the character (with these cards). After that the game should begin, but after about 30 sec of loading it crashes me back to desktop:-(
Any ideas whats wrong?
Thank you for help.
You will need to tell us exactly what your setup is and what settings you have made, and if you followed the full installation instructions?
DeleteAlso if you tried it AFTER uninstalling the fix. It might be the game rather then fix.
DeleteClick uninstall.bat then see if you get past that point.
Hi, first of all a big thanks this game look totaly amazing with all your works, its very appreciate !! But i have just a little problem since V6, my crosshair look very far from enemy. Is there a way to correct them in the ini file? A big thanks, the community need you !!
ReplyDeleteHi, I am using this for the sli fog fix in 2d, and it works great thanks! Just wondering if there is anyway of unlocking the 60fps limit that seems to be imposed?
ReplyDeleteEdit the last entry in user.cfg
Deletebrilliant thanks, much appreciated. Also, I found some fog in the forbidden oasis, Solason cave :) Its working everywhere else I've been so far.
Deleteis there currently anyway to enable MSAA and not get the grey screen? I've been reading some previous comments but not sure I've been following them correctly. It would be in 2d only. Cheers
ReplyDeleteYou guys are the true heroes of Fereldan, Everything works except the crosshairs. I have double images of them and it is extremely jarrring. Am I doing something wrong or does everyone just accept that we can't tell who we are targeting.
ReplyDeleteYou can increase hud depth. See section V. 3D Migoto settings in the main section. Change the x value to something bigger.
DeleteYes thanks! I am a noob at 3d still and I took the comment to "use low values" in section V a bit too literally (thought I should use the provided values or lower)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHello, thank you for the great work on this. I use Win 8.1, but setup a Win 7 boot partition for this. I have 2 GTX 780 Ti's and I found the AC4 profile to work the best in my case with SLI. I switched compatibility mode off and made the NVIDIA profile settings changes. Everything mostly works very well, but I am experience fairly frequent crash to desktops. There is no error message and no events logged in the Event Viewer as far as I can tell. The crashes seem to mostly happen during loading screens. Is this just an issue with the game or is there something not setup right? I am using 347.09 drivers and I have an i7 980X OC'd to 4.1 GHz.
ReplyDeleteIt is a brand new Win 7 install with minimal things installed. I ran DDU and did not install Geforce Experience or HD Audio but still have the crashes.
Any suggestions?
There are stability issues with the game. For latest info on workarounds, take a look at this thread, especially toward the end. The install setup here will be updated when it's more clear.

Thanks, I reviewed some of that and I will try the Alt-Tab tricks mentioned there. I still have not found the post about the registry changes but I will keep reading there.

ReplyDeleteThanks, but you need to give us more information than this, please. Either a screenshot or a save game, or a description of the location. I am guessing that this is a decal issue, so we will be able to fix easily if we know where to get to.

You are the first person to report this problem, which suggests it is more likely to be a problem with your setup. Can you provide your system specs?

Thanks for the images. Someone else reported the horse (perhaps you?) in the Forum. v8 should fix that one. I think there may be quality level differences as well, I noticed an issue with a staff when on low and medium, but it was fine on high and above. I think we can only chip away at these as we find them.

ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteHas anything changed from V8 to V9 other than the FWS update? I just want to know if I need to regenerate the shader fixes or just update the FWS files.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
No, just FWS update, everything else the same.
Deletethanks for v9
ReplyDeleteMaaaaan/ FWS is not working anymore after 3rd update of the game. The problem is about letterbox. Those black borders in dialogs and cinemas... Igot this programm, but the plugin is for version 2.5. I tried to replace my FWS, but its still the same plugin. on widescreen site is the old version/ I ve completed this game before, and FWS worked perfectly. Then 21.01.2015 its stopped. i am helpless here, i dont need this 3d fix or something, i just need those black borders dissapear!!!

- Fixed night time water reflections

Deleteultra fog difference was like a slap in the face
thanks dude for your hard work
oh wait it doesnt work
Deletei guess maybe cos im on windows 8.1?
i thought i configured it right but as soon as i ran the uninstall.bat the game worked correctly again
fuck me for going SLI
yeah definitely a no-go
Deleteany iteration of config, sli settings, ini files, admin mode, etc does nothing but bring up the DA:I window for a second then closes it
oh i got it working
Deletei had to get the 64bit flugan wrapper
uhhh why is that not on this page at all anywhere? could have been useful...
Yes Flugan wrapper does work with these shader fixes on Win 8.1
Deleteand yes the information would be very useful. I tried to provide helpful links to the information but my post was deleted by the authors here.
Please search for it yourself. Sorry
I am not sure why anyone would delete your post, I certainly didn't. What exactly did you post?
DeleteThe Flugan wrapper is not yet posted because as promising as it is, it is in some flux and for many has the same issues as the 3DMigoto wrapper. That being said, if it is providing some stability for Win 8 users I will post it up as soon as I get the chance.
A post could be picked up by the anti spam especially if it contains a link.
DeleteIt clearly states in Red in the instructions that none of the people that worked on the fix have 8.1 so therefore it wasn't tested on it. There is feedback from a couple people trying to get it working with 8.1 on the 3D Vision forum thread about the game.

ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning Flugan's wrapper. With it I too was able to get DA:I working with these shader fixes on Win 8.1.
Refer to the following forum thread where Flugan, mike_ar69, Helifax & bo3b are actively discussing it.

Please pay special attention to the instructions which have some important differences to the ones listed here and post your questions regarding Flugan's wrapper in that forum.
If you are like me and only require this fix for the SLI white fog in 2D on Win 8.1, then refer to this post by Helifax and the attached file.
