Mortal Kombat XL





With the upcoming release of Mortal Kombat 11 in April creating a bunch of hype for the franchise, and knowing that my MK10 fix stopped working with the Mortal Kombat XL update, I decided it's time that I revisit this and and get it updated to be working again (even better than before!) so we can all check out those jaw droppin, eye poppin, head stomping fatalities in glorious 3D once more.


Recent Version History

2019-02-10 Version 2.1 Update: Fix additional halos in fog in background on certain stages2019-02-08 Version 2.0 for MKXL Update

Fix features (new in blue)

Fixed:
-Lighting/Shadows and AO
-All halo creating effects in every stage, special move, & fatality.



Unfixed:
-Floor reflections (disabled some to be less distracting)

User Interface:
-Added convergence presets that switch automatically between each other for in fight (for high convergence) and for fatalities/x-ray moves (for lower convergence due to close ups). You can adjust the convergence values to your taste by editing the d3dx.ini file in the PresetFight and PresetFatality sections


-UI depth adjustment key: ]
-Press the \ key to toggle HUD/Pause menu/FATALITY text off and on for taking unobstructed screenshots



Instructions:

1) Download: MKX fix v2.1
2) Extract files to location where MK10.exe is located
3) FINISH HIM!!!

Tools used to make this fix:
-3DMigoto v1.3.14 (thanks to Bo3b, DarkStarSword, and Chiri!)
-Flugan's assembler

    1. Thank you, and absolutely do it! It's a very rewarding experience to learn something new, and to work on a project to completion (or at least a working/acceptable state). Of course, that doesn't just pertain to shader hacking, so feel free to apply that to any other interest you may have, but the more people we have pumping out fixes the better!

  5. When launching in a 3D resolution I get an overlay on my screen; seems to be an issue on my end but just in case, ever hear of this kind of thing?

    4. If you downloaded the fix over a week ago, try redownloading it OR go into the d3dx.ini file and change Hunting = 0. I accidentally uploaded the fix with shader hunting still enabled, and had re-uploaded the fix a little while back with it corrected

    5. @DJ-RK: You also might want to make an update with logging disabled. Current download has calls=1, which generates log file and continuous logging. Takes a little bit of performance, so depends upon how demanding the game is whether it's a problem.

    6. Ahh, I thought that setting 3DMigoto into release mode (Hunting = 0) would also disable any additional functions, like logging, as well. I'll put up an update, thanks for the heads up!

    I really want to say we (as a community) really appreciate the TIME and EFFORT you put into this fix and the PASSION for 3D ;)
    Is not Perfect (but most things in life are anyway;)) )! And just because is NOT perfect it makes it EVEN more awesome !!!

    1. Thanks Helifax. You really hit the nail on the head, I really do have a passion for 3D, which drives me to want to learn and contribute. Of course, I'd love to get this to be a perfect fix, eventually, but as I learned from Vermintide, gotta learn to crawl/walk before I can run, so just gonna focus on a few simpler fixes until I'm at the level to tackle more involved lighting/shadow fixes. I'm actually currently looking at a particular OpenGL game and attempting at figuring out your wrapper, so the appreciation is mutual! Run into a little snag, though, so you'll likely be seeing some questions raised in your thread on the Geforce forums... but until then, muchos gracias amigo.

  10. tried this but the convergence isnt changing with my hotkeys for some reason, only depth works, and convergence is so high i cant see anything

    1. Weird, fix doesn't lock convergence in any way. The new patch may have changed or broken something. I'll try to take a look at this when I got the time, but I'm currently working on fixing Quantum Break which takes priority of my fixing time at the moment, so maybe in a couple weeks I'll be able to look into providing an update.

  13. During a match, my right eye shows one screen and my left eye shows a different screen (I think character/stage select screen) and characters are transparent...

    3. Same problem. It works on the pit map but on some stage left eye freeze, while right eye ok. It freeze during the begining cinematic of a combat. Conf GTX 980m win 10 on video projector.

    4. Same issue here. If I run the benchmark for example, right eye sees the fight while the left one still sees the menu's background. Any fix?

  14. I took a look at it a couple nights back. Definitely didn't have the issue that you're reporting Zalbaag, so probably an issue with your driver profile, and I'd suggest doing a DDU reinstall. Otherwise, I did see a few non-major broken effects on some stages. I might spend some time to get all stages fixed again, but I'm not going to go through each and every fatality again. I don't actively play this game to know what's broken and what isn't, so if people can document and report specific things that are broken, eg. Sub-zero's fatality 2, or Raiden's ABC move, etc, then that'll improve the chances of me looking at these things to fix them.

    1. Nvidia inspector did not solve the Problem.
      3D compatibility mode works but not the normal mode
      btw. i have also a GTX 970 but Win7
      Driver 372.54, have you the same?

    2. Hey, I took some Alt+F1 screen shots of my problem. Just to see if it's the same problem you have. Also, I can't even switch to compatibility mode. I can only toggle 3D on and off with Ctrl+T. Switching with Ctrl+Alt+F11 does not work for me. I'm going to post the problem in the NVidia forum as well. I'll let you know if I get any help.

  18. 372.90, Win 10 here. I know there was some issues with another game on the driver versions that immediately followed, so that could be it, although I'm not sure if that would explain Anonymous' issue

    1. Tried a clean install of 372.90. No luck. Same problem. Maybe just something unique on my end. Not seeing anyone else in forums with the issue. Thanks anyway though.

    2. Installed newes driver. Now I also can´t switch to compatibility mode :D
      Error still there.

      I think it seems that the fix does not realy load.

      Found this in d3d11_log.txt

      Hooked_LoadLibraryExW switching to original dll: original_nvapi64.dll to C:\Windows\system32\nvapi64.dll.

      Trying to load original_d3d11.dll

      Does that mean something?

    3. Sorry guys, I don't have the answer for you on this. At best I can go back and fix up the issues that have resurfaced, like halos on stages and whatnot, but I'm not experiencing the issue you guys are facing. It does remind me of an issue I had while I was fixing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and that required me to lower the texture setting in that game. Maybe try lowering some other settings in the game and see if anything helps.

      I tried all graphic options and it was the Depth of field and Bloom effect. Both must be switched off.
      In the End it was such a simple thing... whatever, now I can play.

  20. Well, the good news is that I did pick up the latest Kombat Pack during the winter sale, so I probably will take another look at this at some point. The not so good news is that I do have a bunch of projects on the go, or that I'm interested in, and it's hard for me to determine exactly where this one lies in my priorities list, so I can't give any time estimate.

  22. i added the latest fix and it looks absolutely sublime really good fix, however unfortunately the game is unplayable framerate for me and i dont know why, as all other games play no problem (with 3d and fix) i have a 1070 and even if i turn everything off, i get single digit framerate, really jarring, killer instinct on the other hand i can play maxed out and it never goes below 60fps, has anyone else got this working with the latest fix and a smooth framera
