The Turing Test

3Dmigoto, DX11, 3D Vision fix by DHR and bo3b

Recommended settings:

The main settings to change are:
  1) Motion Blur: Disabled
  2) Effects: Medium

Everything else can be on Ultra.  Effects needs to be Medium or Low to avoid broken reflections on walls. Crosshair should be disabled for optimal experience, it's slow paced and aiming is easy.  Crosshair is screen depth and annoyingly large.  For a temporary aiming for the rare distance shots, the nvidia laser crosshair can be activated with Ctrl-F12.

Update (12-7-18): 4everAwake has cleaned up the remaining problems, so you can use maximum effects, and stereo crosshair as you prefer.  'x' to turn crosshair on/off.  Thanks!

If you have a VR headset connected, the game will launch WMR, Oculus, or SteamVR automatically, because the developers are super, super lazy and did not uncheck a single checkbox when building their game.  The game has no VR support.  See this thread to manually disable or delete those unnecessary plugins.

Or, even better, use 3D Fix Manager.  Paul will automatically fix this problem when installing the fix.

older version from bo3b: TuringTest.zip

Special thanks to DHR for his awesome UE4 Universal Fix.

  1. Thx for the fix Bo3b!

Btw this game has an annoying bug that it always wants to start Steam VR and Oculus app although the VR headset isn't connected to the PC at all. Nor has the game official VR support! I've fixed this behaviour in the fix profile I've added to 3D Fix Manager for this game.

    1. Very cool, thanks for fixing that VR start problem! Totally annoying and lame that they have never fixed that. I'd forgotten to mention that, as I deleted those dlls when I started the game and before fixing it. I'll add a note, to clarify that.

    2. 3D Fix Manager disables Steam VR / Oculus Rift app by editing these 2 files:

      [Path_to_Game]\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\OculusRift\OculusRift.uplugin
      [Path_to_Game]\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\Steam\SteamVR\SteamVR.uplugin

In those files "EnabledByDefault" is set to "false" by 3DFM. So no files had to be deleted.

Again thx for the fix Bo3b. Now I will play this game :).

    1. I'm not seeing this. Win10 Driver 417.01.

Try removing the fix first, with uninstall.bat, then run the game with no fix installed. Set the resolution how you want, and make sure that the game is running in 3D by making sure it is fullscreen. It will look broken but that is OK. After it is running properly, then install the fix.

  5. Where should I extract the files to? I tried the root folder and where the exe is, but the left eye always gets a mostly black picture.

    1. Easiest way to do this is to use the 3D Fix Manager, top left on this page.

Here is the path on my machine: W:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Turing Test\TheTuringTest\Binaries\Win64

If left eye is mostly broken, that is likely a problem with the game profile in the driver.

  6. Thanks for the quick reply. When using the fix I get a warning in red letters at the top left corner on starting up: "WARNING: Profile update failed!"
Without the fix there's no such warning, but in either case the left eye stays black with some weird effect artifacts.
Should I update my driver or how can I fix this?
