Dead Space 3 - 3D Vision fix

Dead Space 3 - 3D Vision fix.

Updated (same link).

Fixed stars sky box.

Fixed:
- Light;
- Shadows;
- Fog/dust/fire HALOs effects (probably not all of them);

Screenshots gallery.

Remaining issues:
- flares (small light spot) a bit improved , but not fixed. Can render for one eye sometime. You can still off them in the graphic settings menu.
- It's WIP version , I did a "batch edit" of the shaders and that means some effects may be still not fixed.
I don't have much time to play through all game, so if you find any issues and want to help with fixing upload a save game and a screenshoot  with found issue.

Instructions:
YOU MUST DISABLE ORIGIN IN GAME.
Download this archive. Unpack downloaded archive in to the folder where game .exe file (deadspace3.exe) located (example : "Origin\Games\Deas Space 3").
Note: If you have crashes when trying to use the fix with other overlay programs like Precision X(Afterburner and etc), try COOP version of the fix(see below) it has better compatibility with third-party overlay software.

COOP version.
Note: You should use it with wariness there is a chance that someday origin anti-cheat system can mark it as cheat. This chance is small, but no one know for sure...

To install version for coop do the following steps:
1. Download and install the original fix (described above);
2. Rename d3d9.dll to d3d9_old.dll(or any other name, doesn't matter);
3. Download this archive and unpack it to the same dir where you put original fix(see above).
4. Run HeliXmodLauncher.exe and after that run the game (note: if you run game with administrative rights, then HeliXmodLauncher.exe should be run with same right as well).
5. Have a friend invite you into game. Accept. Play.

U - key  switches (cycle) depth presets (3 variants).
Note: Default convergence is too high for start menu (use U key).

Holding Mouse 2 key activate low separation preset (for good aiming from the gun)

If you want to save your custom convergence settings press "U" and select required preset, set custom separation/depth settings , then press F7 and your settings will be saved in the config file. You can set custom settings for both presets and for gun preset as well (when holding mouse button 2(aiming gun), set custom separation/depth  settings and press F7. Release mouse button 2).

    1. Nope, It means that i didn't play through whole game and some effect can be broken.
I did dump of all shaders and edited them.
The fix from DS2 is not compatible it has different shaders crcs.

    1. So I guess it's true Transformed has issues. I've only been able to get impressions from one person, but that was somebody who didn't know how to use convergence. Was hoping that was the reason he had depth limited to 20 percent.

      Delete
    2. Even turning off shadows and motion blur, and playing with convergence, the game has issues. It's a wonderful game, and I wonder how cool would it be in 3d vision.

  5. Low seperation for aiming isn't really necessary. Just activate classic aiming in the game options and you get real laserpointers.

    1. Open DX9Settings.ini file look for "PresetsKeysList = 0;2;" and change it to "PresetsKeysList = 2;".
This should remove right mouse key from presets.

  13. Careful:

Co-op does not work anymore! Can't add a friend. That's sucks so much. (Help us pleeeeaaase...)

You have to close MSI AfterBurner. It crash the game at launching.

But the 3D is awesome anyway.

    1. For those using EVGAs Precision there is a fix in the OSD Server options 'Enable compatibility with modified Direct3D libraries'.Checking that will stop the game from crashing.

  16. Shoooooot, im getting an immediate crash when i launch the application with these files in the ds3 directory. In DS2 i had to download the evga compatible or crash dll file to make it work. There is no version of this for DS3.

    1. Try this.
With Precision X or Afterburner need to checkmark a box in the advanced options of Precision X or Afterburner. The Check box text you are looking for is: "Use compatibility mode with 3rd party runtime Dll's". Check box that box, apply settings

    3. This DLL should work with EVGA, but only in "compatibility mode" as Eqzitara said.
It even work with origin overlay (After last origin update I guess).
Only one thing I don't recommend to do it use more then one overlay, i.e. some people use evga + fraps + xfire + origin (steam) + (other third party programs). This can cause unexpected behavior.
But better to turn every DX9 hooking software off.

      Delete
    4. I did the compatibility mode in the advanced settings for precision x and it didn't fix it, unfortunately. I went to the installation known issues page and tried renaming the d3d9.dll file. I think that fixed it! Im assuming that i know helix mod is running when i open the game and dont see the nvidia info in the bottom right and my ctrl+f3 and f4 change the depth perfectly. Other than that how does one know the helix mod is working? Just curious. Thanks Helix and eqzitara!!!

      Delete
    5. Its not working if the D3D9.DLL is renamed.

      Delete
    6. You can just exit out of precision btw, Overclocking/fan settings stay on.

      Delete
    7. That's actually a relief because the 3d effect looked horrible. Ill be honest im using a cracked reloaded version of the game, it has to be the culprit. I wanted to see how good the helix 3d was going to be before i bought it. I guess if i want this in perfect 3d ill have to buy it.

      Delete
    8. I will recommend you to find what cause this crashes before you buy it.
Maybe you problem not in precision x.
Close all third party programs and try to run the game, maybe you will find cause of this conflict.

      Delete
    9. Yeah ive got everything closed. I even tried a diff crack from skidrow. Any one who has it currently working want to dl the reloaded crack and see if it works with the helix mod? Im using the 14 mb reloaded crack. Thanks!

    1. I don't use surround and only thing I can suggest is turn off original overlay and other third party overlays if you have some. Also you can try a trick from Mass Effect 3 : http://helixmod.blogspot.ru/2012/08/mass-effect-3-crash-work-around.html

  21. Helix you are the man!!!! Thank you so much for your hardwork!!!! trully appreciated!!!! Greetings from Brazil.

BTW, Would you consider your 3D Vision fix for Dead Space 3 as good was it was for Dead Space 2? Your DS2 fix was like 3D Vision Ready, really amazing work!!!!

Besides turning off flares in DS3 game menu, should I turn off any other feature, or can I leave all settings maxed out? Are you playing DS3 with flares on, is it a minor issue, I would be ok leaving it on, if the remaining issue is not really that big deal?

BTW, impressive work you did with Farcry 2, I've only played this game because of your skills. Thank you very much!!!!

    Greetings from Brazil...

  24. I didn't have any issues with Farcry 3 using your 3D Vision fix and I always use Afterburner to monitor my GPU and Fraps to monitor my fps. I also have Origin and Steam installed and always logged on.
Why I have to worry about that when playing Dead Space 3 using Helix fix? If I do what Eqzitara said about compability mode using 3rd party dll, should I be Ok? I wasn't aware these programs could affect your fixes, go figure???

That way, the crosshair thing is no longer needed! Hope it helps again. This game is amazing in 3d... enjoying thanks to The masters Helix and Eqzitara! ;)

  32. This is awesome thank you.

I am using your mod and the only change I have made is to turn flares off. I haven't really seen any bugs with it and it works great.

This to me is one of the best 3d experiences along with tomb raider and trine. It really does make it quite frightening and the creature appear a lot scarier than they are in 2D.

Got to love people who think 3d is a gimmick. They clearly have never played a well supported 3D game like this.

    1. As I know you can't use any modified DLL(like SweetFX or this mod) in coop, maybe this is a new EA anti-cheat system. Maybe your friend should have the same dll installed.
It is better to ask from devs/EA support.

    8. Ok, I did a new DLL.

Now i need someone who can test a new version of dll (with injection) in coop(does it work or not).
To install a new version of the DLL(injection) do the following steps:
      1. Download and install the original fix from the main post (above);
      2. Rename d3d9.dll to d3d9_old.dll(or any other name, doesn't matter);

  38. Skybox at wrong depth, othewise brilliant mod as usual Helix.

Without your work 3DVision would have withered on the vine during the past 12 months.

You should consider providing mods as a subscription service such as Cheathappens.
This could help fund a DX11 wrapper for 3DVision, which I am confident you could make work with help and funding!

For textures and lighting artifacts at right edge of screen:

Turn on Nvidia 3D crosshair Ctl-F12 (but set transparency to 100% in Nvidia Control Panel 3D section).
Then Use CTL-F11 to cycle frusta and problem is largely resolved.

Turning on transparent 3D crosshair also solves this problem in some other games..

  45. Actually you can fix the right edge texture/lighting issues by changing pre-renderded frames to 1 in the nVidia control panel. No need to turn on the nVidia 3D crosshair nor cycling frustum.

  50. Awesome job, salutations from Belgium!
The whole world owes you, Helix (and EQ and others) for keeping 3D gaming alive.
I never play a 2d game, and I always buy games only if there is a fix.

    @ Chris Gallacher
Mafia 2 is perfect in 3D, I played it without any issues.
But I'm also curious like you, for Assassins Creed 3 and the new Hitman etc.

I was wondering if there is any possibility to have a page on this website which lists the level of 3D support/quality (at least for the big releases).
For example, if I want to know how the 3D support is for Assassin's Creed 3, or Hitman, it would be so nice to have a page here, saying if it's already good, or fixable, or not (for example listed as "3D ready, no fix needed", or "Several isssues, fix pending", or "Not fixable, DX11 only" etc.

I think that would be an awesome feature, if it's not too time-consuming.

Congratulations again on your tremendous work, my gaming life would be sad without you :-)

I have a serius question for you.
Last night, playing Dead Space 3 with your mod enabled, well... my VGA card died. Don't panic! My RMA service is going to replace it, but since I think I have (had) a great VGA (ASUS GTX670 DirectCU II top), and I was playing very loose (never less than 60 fps with all maxed, and no more that 68º in GPU), I'm intriged.
I'm not blaming you for what happened, but (asking from ignorance), do you think it's remotely possible that a software that modify a game could damage a vga hardware, or alter its Bios somehow?
I think this is a stupid question, I know, but understand that now I'm worried when my new VGA arrives (the same model), and I'll afraid to play dead space with 3d vision and your mod again. (Btw, I loved it!)
What do you think? Just a coincidence? Some words of tranquility for me?
Thanks, and keep doing these awesome mods.

    1. Hi Mario,
My mod doesn't do anything with video card on hardware level.
It does what game devs can (or should) do, correcting shaders code for stereo 3D.
This this can't be cause of video card death.

Btw, My 680 from ASUS also died few month ago and I even didn't play any games at that moment.
Also I know the guy why changed two 680 from asus and he never played 3D.
So maybe this is just bad luck.
At least their 3 years warranty service works and they change dead cards without problems.

    1. Ghosting. It has to do with your display.

Try to play with contrast/brightness. Might be stuck depending on your display.

  66. Hi Helix,

You guys rock, I use your pactches often, but this one it makes the game much worse, maybe Origin made something to stop this patch? Is it for Nvision? If you have the time, please reconsider checking the patch and see if is still working propertly or something wrong I made.

Please read installation instructions again and try try re install it.
Also can you explain what exactly doesn't work ? because "it makes the game much worse" doesn't sound clear for me

    2. Sometimes 3d vision drivers install bad. It doesnt make sense but I had it happen to me and like 20 people posted about it. [So it might be like patch is applying to wrong version]
Try to reinstall nvidia driver. Select clean install and do reinstall.

Otherwise, just making sure but your not referring to ghosting right? Dead Space series alot of people experience ghosting due to high contrast. Its basically like seeing a phantom double image.

    4. I believe you're talking about high convergence ?

      Try this:

U - key switches (cycle) depth presets (3 variants).
Note: Default convergence is too high for start menu (use U key).

Holding Mouse 2 key activate low separation preset (for good aiming from the gun)

    5. Awesome Helix, yes the U key was the trick. But does it mean by copying d3d9.dll that I'm playing the game with dx9 now?

      Delete
    6. Do you mean how do you change convergence in other games? Can do it yourself in any game.
-Make sure you know what convergence is and how to use. Nvidia control panel->set up stereoscopic 3d->set keyboard shortcuts-> advanced.
Assign keys. and hold down for a few seconds in game[at most 30] till you see screen shift. If you look at left/right RE5 images it sums up what convergence is. http://ramblingsofa3dgamer.blogspot.com/2013/08/convergence-comparison.html

  68. Hey so when I use this with sweetfx it crashes right away. When I do the co-op fix as stated above, none of the fixes(including sweetfx) doesn't work. Not sure if there is a work around but I promise I followed the directions word for word. Anything I can do differently? I made sure to install sweetfx first and rename the d3d9.dll to res.dll. Thanks again!

    4. Can do this if you want origin overlay enabled...

To install version for coop do the following steps:
      1. Download and install the original fix (described above);
      2. Rename d3d9.dll to d3d9_old.dll(or any other name, doesn't matter);
      3. Download this archive and unpack it to the same dir where you put original fix(see above).
      4. Run HeliXmodLauncher.exe and after that run the game (note: if you run game with administrative rights, then HeliXmodLauncher.exe should be run with same right as well).
      5. Play :)

Some minor flares problem, but not bad enough to make me even disable the flares. GREAT fix.

One recent update today- Origin forced me to update to 9.4.1 today, otherwise we couldn't play co-op as it would go offline. That patch seems to break the ability to use the Origin Overlay. Overlay worked fine for the last 6 months when using co-op launcher. Now it's broken there too, so if you are suddenly getting crashes or Helixmod is disabled- it's the Origin Overlay.

  73. This problem with the Origin Overlay is pretty bad. It now crashes the co-op HelixModLauncher as well, so you are left to decide whether to have in-game overlay, or HelixReady 3D. If you want to play co-op, you are generally required to invite a friend from the in-game overlay. You can still get around that by alt-tab out, and invite friend to game from the Origin window directly.

But, without the in-game overlay you cannot get to any DLC, which means that for the Awakened DLC we presently have no way to play it in 3D.

  74. Hello!
I'm trying to use this fix and have problems -
    1) Menus became unreadable
    2) Convergence is very high and doesn't change by pressing U
    3) There are a lot of problems with shadows etc. (they almost don't differ from without helix fix playing)

I've tryed both one player and coop fix (and reinstall them) - result is the same. The game is installed from Origin. The resolution is 1920x1080, grafics quality - highest.

Could anybody please give me some advice, what can be the cause of this?

Here are several 3d screenshotes with issues described above

  75. I've found a workaround for the Origin overlay problem. It's pathetic, but we _are_ talking EA here.

The bug stems from a game DLL. The older versions of the DLL work. The newer versions introduce the incompatibilities.

Look on the web for IGO32.DLL, and find an older version. Drop in to replace the one in current Origin directory.

This allows me to play Awakened DLC, with Helix Launcher and still have in-game overlay.

    1. Pretty unlikely that Origin would flag you on this old game. The MP is completely dead, and I think they have no interest.

Most likely is that Origin changed somehow recently, introducing a problem. Don't use their overlay, and it works fine. As a general rule, overlays are bad and poorly written software.

  82. Hello, anybody there these days? I've been going through some older games lately. It has been an 'adventure' to get some of them to work at all, mainly due to outdated DRM. After reinstalling Dead Space 2 from DVD in 2019 (***solution below), I bought Dead Space 3. On Win 10 the fix was not working correctly for me (sorry, no screenshot). I found after much twiddling with in-game settings, the compatibility tab, etc., that the fix included for COOP play does work. If it's not just happening to me, perhaps this could be noted in the install instructions.

***FYI, for Dead Space 2 DVD installation, the -correct- way to override the 'release date check' during the first run of the game is
    1) Change PC date setting to sometime in 2010.
    2) Run game: Verify succeeds. Game blackscreens.
    3) Force quit game. Correct PC date.
    4) Play. Curse at EA.

    1. Both DS2 and 3 are problematic because of their stupid DRM for these games, because of the now clearly dead multiplayer that no one ever cared about. That's why the Helix launcher is on the funny side, to bypass their DRM. It also helps that EA never updated the games to fix obvious and serious problems like you ran into.

Pretty sure the 3D fixes still work, but this trouble getting them to work was always there, it's not new. Not all old games have been treated as poorly as Dead Space series.

  83. @bo3b & Co.- Hey again intrepid Shackers, this game looks great in 3D, but it was a bear to get the fix working, a common thread with all of the Origin games that I own. Once I finally got the ducks lined up I left it alone. Everything was just about perfect. Then, after leaving the game unplayed for about 10 days, I came back to this (.jps image):
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/jdexbrnxih03wmo/deadspace3FUBAR.jps?dl=0
I presume the fail is due to an Origin update (which seems to happen excessively often). Nonetheless, it's quite maddening, since as I stated this game fix took a lot of twiddling with in order to get it going. I've tried the usual twiddles, such as installing manually and not, running as admin or no, disabling fullscreen optimizations, etc.

Also, when using Fix Mgr here, it notifies me that a Dead Space 3 profile needs to be added via Inspector; I let F.M. proceed. The fix page on Helix Mod makes no mention of a profile change, so I don't know what it is doing there; no luck at any rate (if this topic was covered in a forum I missed it). I also tried putting the game on other profiles and back again (Prototype, Aion) to no avail.

Curses, we meet again, E.A. :-[ ! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Not sure what's happening there. The texture corruption is most likely either game corruption or driver corruption.

For what it's worth it's working fine here, just tested it using Origin version, Win10 1903 Driver 425.31. HelixModLauncher working to connect and fix the game. Didn't have to do much fiddling, but already had the game installed.

Should not need a profile update, that's not done for DX9 games. But 3DFM might switch profiles automatically. When I launched out of 3DFM, it didn't ask any questions, just worked.

I'd do the usual first step there of verify game, maybe full reinstall because Origin sucks for repairs. And next up would be reinstall driver with DDU.

      Delete
  84. Thanks again for your response, in particular your suggestions. I am happy to report success, with information that may be helpful to SOMEone...
    1. Reinstalling the game didn't solve the issue, but your idea of reinstalling drivers ended with me taking the plunge with Losti's driver tool. Once I figured out I downloaded a dreaded 'dch' driver version by mistake, things went quite well. I was on 425.31 Win 10, now I'm on 441.87 with 3D functionality, GTX 1660Ti, Windows 10 v1809, which brings me to #2:
    2. When I upgraded to Win 10 last year one of the first things I did was to try and block updates. I found a program called Update Manager (WuMgr) that so far has blocked any updates past 1809, and it lets me check and install updates manually like the old days. Some security updates I've seen are shown as being for an iteration of Win 10 called LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch), which defers all non-security updates for as long as 10 years, apparently. I'm not sure if WuMgr is fooling the OS into thinking it's LTSB or what (I did not specifically install it), but if that's true, would this be a simple solution for others to keep 1903 at bay???
    3. Finally, in trying to solve a controller 'aiming bug' (game did not like my 360 pad, DS4 is OK, go figure) I found that switching V-Sync on or off makes the fix kick in (both fixes work now in this case). It does not appear to matter if it's on or off, just switching it makes proper 3D start. Odd.
    4. Why the fix quit working in the first place is a mystery. I blame EA lol.
