King's Quest
Updated: 12/20/15-- fixed water reflections in chapter 2 & also removed the text "Press ____ to skip" during cutscenes
What this mod does:
- Fixes shadows, reflections & fog
- Pushes crosshair into depth & fixes UI depth in main menu
- Adds a low convergence preset to the '1' key. Press this when aiming (with the bow & arrow) and for some cutscenes.
- Adds a medium & high convergence preset to the '2' key.
- Adds a very high convergence preset to the '3' key for some occasional scenes.
Installation:
- Download this ZIP file and extract the contents into the directory "..\Kings Quest\Binaries\Win\"
- If the game crashes, go to the Steam directory and delete the file "GameOverlayRenderer64.dll".
Utilized Helix's LUA script in this mod

ReplyDeletenow, we waiting for next chapters and of course your nice work for community.
a french fan
@4everAwake, Thank You for this (and all the others of course), I got to kick back in an easy chair with my 360 controller and do a lot of walking back and forth, like I did about 30 years ago when this first came out. I appreciate it :-)
ReplyDeletenow I actually want to get this game because of 3D! Thank you for the hardwork everyone!
ReplyDelete... thanks for the fix ...
ReplyDeletebut just a question: I started to play the game and the shadow of the cloak seems wrong....
is there something with my system, or is this not covered with the fix ?
cheers

I just played through the first 10 minutes of the game and I'm unable to duplicate the issue you are having. I tried various setting in the options menu. Maybe it's an driver issue? I'm going to update to the latest drivers tomorrow and try again (I'm currently on 358.50).
Deletesame here windows 10
Delete... the strange thing is I have a dual boot system with windows 10 and 355.98 driver and its the same as on Windows 7 with the newest 361.43 ...
Deletehavent tested other configurations yet

Pirated version or Legal steam ?
DeleteI just upgraded to 361.43, but I'm still unable to generate any problems. I'm not sure if you have SLI, but perhaps it could be an SLI issue? I only have a single GPU. OS: Win 7 x64.
DeleteNon-pirated version for me. Also can you tell me which area you are seeing this problem in? I'm still in the beginning cave after you first spot the dragon.
DeleteNo sli, i will try on a legal version, i only see the start screen without any bugs, but directly at the begining of the game the shadows are at wrong depht
DeleteBought the game, it's the same, it's seems like the fix does't work at all but he starts with the game since the auto convergence presets keys are functionnals.
DeleteI apologize. I found the problem. There was one file I forgot to add to the fix. Please re-download and let me know if you are still having issues.
DeleteIt work now !!! Thanx a lot!
Deletethanks a lot from me, too ... now its working !

Awesome, thanks! I'm waiting for the full release of this one, but I'm looking forward to playing it - especially in 3D!
ReplyDeleteLooks great but I had to delete the GameOverlayRenderer64.dll file as you suggested to get it to start. Unfortunately, Steam seems to reinstall the file on every restart. In any case, even though the game starts, it crashes (restarts my PC) after a variable time (5 min - 1 hour) whether I use 3D or disable it. This also happens in another game I applied 3D to, Chaos Reborn. Although both games were stable when I played them without 3D before, I think something is corrupted now that I deleted that file. Replacing it doesn't help. Any ideas?

DeleteI'm not sure as I've never experienced any crashing issues as you've described. I've deleted GameOverlayRenderer64.dll numerous times for various games. Perhaps try uninstalling & reinstalling Steam?
DeleteOK, thanks for the feedback and all the work you do.
ReplyDeleteI posted on January 3 above and just discovered my problem wasn't with GameOverlayRenderer64.dll. Rather my PSU started overheating and it was just a coincidence it started happening when I applied the mod. So it was a hardware issue not software. I'm posting so others don't get dissuaded from trying this fix, because King's Quest does look awesome in 3D Vision. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying this game in 3D. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks for this! Just curious if the fix works with the rest of the chapters as well?
ReplyDeleteI think. I just played the first 15 minutes of chapter 3 and it looks ok so far. I'm just waiting for Chapter 4 to come out so that I can play chapters 3 & 4 back to back.
DeleteFirst of all you're awesome.. The game is one of my Favorites now because of your patch.. But please hurry with the other episode I can't wait :( I'm holding now after episode 2..
