ELITE DANGEROUS HORIZONS and ELITE DANGEROUS 64bit
This fix is out of date, please use: elite-dangerous-sept-6-2016-update
[KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS]
- "/" If you think planets look too close press "/" to toggle the depths; you will need to do this again when accessing the system map or the planets won't show. Default is standard depth.
UPGRADE?
Just dump and overwrite the files from the: ShaderFixes UPGRADE WITHOUT STARFIELD +NEBULA folder to the ShaderFixes folder.
STANDARD INSTALLATION
Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: HORIZONS
You will need to extract all of the files into the elite-dangerous-64 folder: C:\Games\EDLaunch\Products\elite-dangerous-64
INSTRUCTIONS Please read all of the following CAREFULLY
- You will need to DISABLE SHADOWS in the game's menu.
- Make sure you are in NOT in Compatibility Mode! CTRL+ALT+F11 toggles CM
- Make sure MOUSE CURSOR is set to SOFTWARE
YOU WILL NEED TO TWEAK CONVERGENCE TO ALIGN THE STARFIELD and NEBULA
You must first have the convergence keys unlocked in the nVidia panel
- Go outside to where you can see the nebula and starfield;
- Put this view to the center of the screen;
- Hold down your lower convergence button until the nebula is a teeny tiny bit behind the starfield when looking directly in the middle;

NEBULA
If you want to play at a much higher convergence you may need to do the following...
#1 MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR CONVERGENCE SETTINGS!!!!
CTRL + F7
Go to where you extracted the fix files e.g.
C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1010
Inside the ShaderFixes folder, delete all the files that end in .bin (They will repopulate next time you run the game.)
Temporarily move the d3dx.ini file to somewhere safe e.g. desktop
Copy and Paste the d3dx.ini from the FOR TWEAKING NEBULA folder; this will allow you to tweak the shader.
Look for following shaders and OPEN them in WORDPAD or Notepad++ if you have it:
df226b8076adab82-vs_replace
fb66e38457882d4f-vs_replace
Run the game and enter the Docking tutorial.
Alt + Tab into WORDPAD, which you should have open one of the shaders with.
Around line 31 or 33 you should see this: o1.x += separation * 1.065;
Tweak the number (1.065) in the line by small increments of between 0.005 and 0.2.
Making the number bigger pushes it deeper; smaller more shallow.
Do the same for the other shader.
Save the files. Alt tab into game. Press F10 to reload the shaders.
Rinse and repeat.
Finished? Replace the new d3dx.ini with the original that came with the fix. Restart. :)

Awesome! Look forward to trying it out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMerci
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteHowever, enabling 3D Vision and disabling SLI at the same time greatly reduces usefulness of a fix...
Don't need to disable SLI! Only unstable when tweaking. Soz for confusion. I have updated post.
DeleteThanks for the fix! Elite Dangerous has been my "main" game for the past few months and glad to finally play it with 3d vision.
ReplyDeleteMy nebulas need fixing, however, and the zip file linked here does not contain a "FOR TWEAKING THE NEBULA" folder. Hopefully you can update the link when you get the chance. Thanks again!
Really sorry. I have uploaded and found another nebula and starfield. There might be more. Did you try it in the tutorial: docking?
Deletethanks for your work on this. Are the HUD's on the left and right supposed to be fixed? They still render at different depths on the transparent part where it looks like it extends on the corners. I unpacked the files and manually added them to the stated folder.

DeleteHmmm
DeleteDoes it look like this?
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/882500/3d-vision/elite-dangerous-fix/post/4696514/#4696514
If so that's compatibility mode and not real 3D. CTRL ALT and INSERT to toggle between the two.
If not would you be able to post a screeny please?
thank you
ReplyDeletePlease look new correction . Thank
ReplyDeletethank you thank you! I switched off the compatibility mode and tweaked the convergence and wahoo! beautiful 3D Elite. I am loving it with head tracking and voice attack and this - I am in the game. Really glad you worked on this!
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteReally pleased you like it. :)
I bought the EDTracker last week. Best £12 I have spent in a while. ED in 3D with head tracking is really cool!
Great job on the fix, still some issues though, cant do SBS as i dont know how, only bought 3D glasses today since having a 3D monitor i thought id give it a go, and no VR :( not until its commercial :)

Hello mate.
DeleteThat texture doubling on objects between you and stars and certain planets is the issue I mentioned in the issues bit I am afraid. I found I got used to it and it's only an issue when you stare at stars.

DeleteThis is fantastic! I got ED at the Steam sale and now can play in 3D Surround!
ReplyDeleteIs this still a work in progress for things like the triple objects when a ship is between you and a star/planet?
Great work!
Thank you for the Horizons 64bit fix! Quick work!
ReplyDeleteSome feedback - 64bit is very dark inside stations but otherwise works as well as the 32bit version.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. Thanks :)
The light/dark station is a weird one!
DeleteI have noticed that if it is light outside the station, it is light inside. And if it is dark, it is dark. As soon as you move the lights turn on...
sorry to say but i'm very disappointed by the 3d with the fix ; it's totally broken . I hope there will be some improvements in the future , but just now i cannot recommend to buy the game for the 3d experience like i do :/
ReplyDeleteHehe!
DeleteYou've probably installed it wrong or are still in Compatibility Mode or both.
Has it generated the Bin files in the ShaderFixes folder? Did you switch it to normal mode CTRL+ALT+F11?

ReplyDeleteHey there Andy, thanks for your work on this (and everyone else)! What's new in version 9?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I know one of the Shaders was moving the nebulas, but, the other shader didn't seem to do anything even when I changed it to extreme values like 0.1/2.0, what am I missing?
DeleteHello mate
DeleteYou shouldn't need to tweak the nebula by going into the shaders, unless you like really extreme convergence settings. Most people just adjust convergence using the nVidia shortcut key until the stars and nebula align then save the settings, Ctrl + F7
The reason only one of the nebula shaders does anything is because nebula are local: one shader will be used in one part of the galaxy and the other elsewhere. But they behave the same so make sure a both changed using identical values.
V9 is very minor as in just trails. I have just noticed halos in the FSD trails that I missed so that will be another minor iteration. The change from 7 - 8 (I think) was the biggie, when the fix became a FIX.
Yeah, I really love the way the game looks with maximum depth value. However, by pulling the images so far apart I get those ghostly images, especially with stations cause they are white, and planets. So, I then used convergence to try to make it work. At about 3-4 dots of depth, everything is perfect the way you have it, but when I increase depth and adjust convergence to work with it is when the nebula/star field gets out of sync. Is there anything I can do to play the game with the extreme depth value I like while getting rid of these ghostly after images? Again, couldn't appreciate the work more, really made my week, and thanks for the replies.
DeleteThe game is a killer for crosstalk - inky black space, with bright vector graphic HUD. Nasty! I guess I ignore the crosstalk now - years of practice. I have also reduced the HUD brightness to the minimum which is still super bright if you ask me! Also I have used a different colour scheme for the HUD.
DeleteIf you want, can you post a stereo screenie of the depth and convergence settings you want to play at? Use the docking tutorial for this and tell me the depth setting you used. That way I can tweak the shaders for the nebula for you to work around your convergence settings. :)
Won't take me long to do if you think that would be helpful?
Thanks for your work on this! One question... I followed the steps for the extreme convergence, and that moves the nebula back nicely, but is there a way to get the star field to go back that deep as well?
ReplyDelete6c40a3a24123c6f6-vs_replace.txt and b71f0c85a91aef37-vs_replace.txt for starfield .
Delete@DarkStarSword : is there a chance that with your help, Andysonof Bob succeed finding fix for shadows ?
What am I doing wrong? I've put the files into the elite-dangerous-64 folder and followed the instructions to the letter. I presume that in the ED settings, I set 3D to 'side-by-side', but all I get is side by side, surely the two images should converge into one, shouldn't they? Can you help please?
ReplyDeleteYou should disable any 3D settings the game has as it's the driver + fix creating the 3D, not the game. This is standard for all our fixes unless noted otherwise.
DeleteHi! First up thanks for all your hard work - it's very much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteNow I just started up ED Horizons today and the 3d fix was no longer working. It appears to be having no effect as I have removed it and reinstalled it. I'm on version 2016.01.22.95134 0.4.4468.0 ND
I'm not sure if anyone else is having any issues?
Thanks!
Brad
I can confirm that. The fix is not working. It does nothing. No hurry to fix it, but it would be really appreciated.
DeleteEvery game update removed the fix. Just put it back in again. It still works :)
DeleteHi Andy,
ReplyDeletejust installed Horizons and the frame rate comes to a crawl on planetary landings. Is this normal or is it should I do a new install over the new horizons update?
Hello mate
DeleteIt is horizons I am afraid. Lots of people are having significant FPS drops on planets. I upgraded to a 970 and its awesome now. WHen I was SLI 670 I had to set the planet settings to low! :(
I'm running ED on a Sony 3DTV, currently using the side-by-side option. Does Helixmod offer any advantages, or is it more for 3D setups that don't support the SBS option?
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is that using 3d vision with a tv instead of a computer monitor really limits your options I think the 3d vision tv mode only even works at 720p if your using that. Unless you using the tv's ability to change normal content into 3d. I'd suggest the asus rog swift for a 3d monitor and 1440p.
DeleteThank you for this fix! I'd like to say thank you a dozen more times.. I love this game and have been hoping and praying for this fix. You have my gratitude, it is amazing!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Have you got headtracking? I am using EDTracker Pro. It is so cool in this game! :)
DeleteI don't have head tracking yet, maybe I should pick it up.
ReplyDeleteI do have a question though. Is it possible to fix (or educate me how to fix) the mouse in the galaxy map? Since it is in both eyes its hard to select systems. Recently the map seems to have changed and missions don't select systems so navigating is a real pain.
Fixed the map selection problem, was the grid option being turned off. Mouse still is an issue on nav map though. Still really loving this in 3d!
DeleteHave you made sure the mouse is software? That puts the mouse in the same plane as the UI for me. It is a bit twitchy though.
DeleteMost of the time I push the mouse cursor away and use my cheap T. Flight HOTAS to control literally everything! :)
Anyone knows if I install SweetFX, ReShade and GemFX if they will mess with the 3D effect?

Another question, is there a way to give money to the guy doing all these 3d profile fix, paypal donations etc? I really want him to continue his work, because obviously Nvidia doesn't care about their own devices.
Hello
DeleteDunno about the reshades but as the author of this fix I am happy to keep up the status quo, with regard to the graphics, should 2.1 break any of the shaders.
All the best!
After updating to the most recent nvidia drivers I can not get this fix to work again. I have uninstalled and the put back the fix. Unzipped the zip file in common/elite... unzipped in common/elite/products/elite-dangerous-64. I remember having a hard time the first time. I'm not even worried about the nebulas right now I just ant it to not get broken... Do I need to clear out my settings somehow and start over? There are a few different way to launch now perhaps that is messing with it?
ReplyDeleteCompatibility mode is off and 3d is off in the menu.
Man this is disturbing, I didn't update my drivers, but I cant think of playing this game again not in 3D...
DeleteDriver installs are known for bad 3D vision installs.
DeleteIf something bad happens after driver install.
Redownload driver and do CLEAN install.
Something strange going on with my system. I used display driver uninstall and did a clean driver install. Found that other games are having this issue, as well even games that had no 3d issues or patches needed. So its not the fix or elite. Using 980ti, 1440p, win 10 64 bit.. Going to try hooking up to a 1080p monitor in case its my monitor or the drivers not liking 1440p or something..
DeleteProblem seems to be my Rog Swift monitor.. Had several RMA's so I guess its time for another.. My older 3d vision monitor is working fine but this one is always a little blurry in 3d now.. Going through RMA again..
DeleteFirst, thanks for the work with this, its amazing to play in 3d, with trackIR and Astra its been a blast.
ReplyDeleteMy only issue is that I get weird light artifacts, the sun and ships I fight seem to have none 3d light effects (the sun or the light is rendered correctly, but the glow of it is doubled). This is not ghosting, since I can see the sun for example 3 times (once in 3d, and twice without 3d). Did I miss something during installation, or is there a way to turn this effect off in the game?
I re enabled ambient occlusion and put every other setting to high (apart from bloom and shadows). It works fine now and looks AMAZING.
DeleteIs it possible to have bloom and fog back ? I really love those effects in a game.
ReplyDeleteHi Guys!
ReplyDeleteI'm playing with Elite Dangerous Horizons. The problem is that in comp mode the enviroment is OK, but the console (inside of the ship) isn't in 3d. I tried profile inspector, but its getting error on starting the .exe (some nv_api error). How can I fix it? Has anybody this kinda problem? geforce driver is:364.72.
Thanx
Hi There!
ReplyDeleteAfter yestersay's new update with ED, no more fixed shaders in non-compatible mode, all previous fixed shaders gone away and the update replaced them all with the wrong shaders. I tried to delete all .bin files and replacing all the .txt files again, but its not working. The bins also not generating, anf if I copy the d3dx.ini from nebula tweaking folder, the f10 key is not working ingame. Maybe the folders changed,or what? But where? Maybe the game won't work anymore with these fixes, everybody has to buy Oculus rift??????
Likely means the shaders were changed by the update and you'll have to wait for andysonofbob or another interested shaderhacker to redo the fix. This is a risk that every type of modding carries.
DeleteThnx again I was still using v2 forgot all about checking for u5pdates cant wait until I see the new fixes ;)
ReplyDeleteWould it be possible to leave bloom, blur, FX all the new graphical goodies in the last update etc, in the new fix if someone is working on it?
ReplyDeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteThe one thing that really bugs me visually with ED is the "space dust". I'm on a quest to see how/if I can remove it. I've used RenderDoc to identify where in the API calls it is getting added to the frame (Space Dust found in RenderDoc (in purple)). Anyone have any ideas of where I need to go from here to make a mod to remove it? Or do something where they get rendered invisibly or something like that? If people are modding out fog and docking lights, it seems like it would be doable.
Any ideas would be really helpful. I'm not particularly sure what I'm doing or how to do it at the moment but I'm hoping it isn't too tricky to do.
Thanks
Should be possible to do that using 3Dmigoto, which comes with this fix. You enable shader hunting with hunting=1, then track down the pixel shader that draws the dust. You can then set the output to zero to have them removed.
DeleteThat glosses over a lot of details, but once you have the idea, it's not hard to do.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHey bo3b,
DeleteI've made some progress. I hunted for the pixel shader and found it. For a few moments, I basked in the dust-free zone. I've looked at the HLSL that was generated when I marked the shader but I'm not sure how to change it (or if that's even the correct approach). I've uploaded the txt file to here.
I thought it might be as easy as changing "dcl_output o0.xyzw" to "dcl_output 0" but that didn't seem to do anything.
It would be fantastic if you could give me another suggestion.
Thanks
OK, good. Since that is a ps version 4, that means you can use the easy approach. Just put "discard;" (no quotes) right before the return statement.
DeleteIf you are interested in more detail or need better understanding, you can take a look at the School for ShaderHackers
Thanks bo3b. That worked perfectly (once I realised you had to delete the .bin file and allow the code to recompile the txt as a binary). I'm still testing it, looking for other PS that do the same thing in other parts of the game (found it in real space and supercruise so far) and make sure it doesn't affect anything else, then I'll bundle it up into a mod.
DeleteThanks so much for the help! It has massively improved my experience of the game. I think there will be a significant minority of players that will like it too.
Great! Glad to hear it. Please give us ShaderHackers a shout-out when you release the mod.
DeleteSure did. Dust Buster mod. Thanks again.
DeleteHey Bo3b, one more question: do you know of a way to hack these shaders that works with ATI cards?
Delete3Dmigoto actually runs with AMD/ATI cards also. No 3D of course, but other people are using it to hack games just for the access to shaders. It's a little bizarre to get working, you need to have a real copy of nvapi.dll in the same folder with the game (has to do with how 3Dmigoto is architected.) But as a workaround it works.
DeleteHere's some detail on that: AMD support.
Hi, any chance that our valiant 3D Vision hackers can look into the latest E:D update, 2.1? Since the update, all the suns look broken, big halos and shadows around them (even though the shadows are turned off).
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for making E:D a great experience in 3D Vision!
Obviously the mod does not work any more. Tried all but without success. Anyway thank you for your work @bo3b
ReplyDeleteIf AndySonOfBob doesn't have time to refix this game, you can always lend a hand. Generally when a game update breaks a fix, it's because they mind small tweaks to the shaders we are changing- which changes the checksum file name we calculate. If you can track down something like the halos, you can very likely reapply the fix using the original halo shader as a reference.
DeleteI tried enabling hunting but it does not enable.. is there something special I should do to get hunting working?? I was gona track down the sun shaders and fix it..
ReplyDeleteDefault for shipping a fix, we set hunting=0 as it gives a performance bump. You need to edit d3dx.ini and set hunting=1. Not sure if you have done that or are using Numpad zero to enable/disable, which only works with hunting=2. hunting=2 will not show the overlay to start, but costs a bit in performance.
Deletethanks for this job! it s very beautiful.
ReplyDeletei have just one trouble whit all sun in game. I don t konw if i am the only one . I m french and i'm sorry for my bad english. thanks for your help.
Sadly it seems to not be supported anymore.
DeleteTristement le profil 3d semble ne plus etre supporté par celui qui le faisait.
In that case, it must be your turn to fix this one.
DeleteWell gonna go look again but I had enabled Hunting.. Perhaps my turn to fix it lol!! ;)
ReplyDeleteWell the Hunting=1 is working I just don't see the overlay?? I am going to move this to the GeForce Forums..
ReplyDeleteHe's using an antique version of 3Dmigoto 1.0.1. That version had no overlay, as I had to patch DXGI to make that work. Might have been using that as the only one that works with the game, but it would definitely be worth trying the latest version.
DeleteHi, is anyone still working on this? I installed it with 2.2 and I can't seem to get the convergence right. I'm using anaglyph glasses and I keep getting red and blue bleedthrough. Is that normal?
ReplyDeleteHey, i have dark bars to the left and right side of the screen, everything else looks great! Any fix for those dark bars left and right?
ReplyDeleteUse control+F11 to adjust frustrum, at least that is what I had to do.
DeleteThis fix is not active anymore on this page, please use this page instead: http://helixmod.blogspot.nl/2016/09/elite-dangerous-sept-6-2016-update-by.html
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI cant get this to work, still having major issues with stars (half black and fuzzy) and inside of stations the lights look doubled and really terrible. Any pointers? I have noticed the "Hotkeys" like / and f10 do absolutely nothing, so I am assuming that the mod isn't working at all. However (might be placebo effect) I do notice improvements in other areas temporarily, like orbit rings for example. I have the game installed to one of my SSD's so I just extracted the files there in the same directory structure indicated.
ReplyDeleteHello, I can manage to align nebula and stars. The problem is that nvidia convergence keys seems to affect just to the cockpit. Using these keys cockpit goes in or out of the screen but stars and nebula soesn't move. Now, the nebula is fine far away, but the stars are very close. So that it seems I can touch the stars with the nose of my ship.
ReplyDeleteThis fix is not the best anymore, please use this page instead: New Fix.
DeleteBe sure to uninstall.bat this old one.
Sorry, where it reads "I can manage to align nebula and stars", obviously I wanted to say "I CAN'T manage to align nebula and stars" xD
ReplyDeleteBTW: Always use the GameList, not google to find fixes. If you use GameList, you can see the different versions and choose the latest.
ReplyDeleteOr, use Paul Dusler's killer new app that automatically fetches the latest version.
