Silent Hill 3 [DX11]

geo-11 fix for Silent Hill 3. Intended for the widescreen patch from the ps2wide.net website and not the patch that pcgamingwiki recommends. This also needs dgVoodoo and Ultimate ASI Loader.

Fixed
  • 3D rendering in geo-11.
  • Flashlight light circle / lens flare, most of the time.
  • Blood on the ground (splatters, footsteps, etc).
  • Fog.

Installation
  • Download the widescreen patch (this link comes from the ps2wide website). Unzip it twice until d3d8.dll and the rest of the files and "data" folder are inside the "SILENT HILL 3" folder.
  • Rename that "d3d8.dll" to "d3d8.asi".
  • For widescreen, open "sh3w.ini" and set the width and height values to 1280 and 720 respectively. Make sure "Widescreen" is set to 1. Later in the instructions, you can force a higher resolution with dgVoodoo.
  • Download Ultimate ASI Loader, the "Ultimate-ASI-Loader.zip" specifically which is for 32 bit games.
  • Unzip it and put the "dinput8.dll" file inside the "SILENT HILL 3" folder.
  • Install dgVoodoo (last tested version: v2.81.3), placing the D3D8.dll that is inside the "MS\x86" dgVoodoo folder into "SILENT HILL 3".
  • Configure dgVoodoo, specifically setting your resolution (2560x1440 in my case).

  • Download this file (contains geo-11 build v0.6.164) and extract its contents in the "SILENT HILL 3" folder, where "sh3.exe" is. Remember to edit "d3dxdm.ini" to change your "direct_mode" to the output you need. It's sbs by default. For 3D Vision monitors, use "direct_mode = nvidia_dx9".
  • Run the game.

Hotkeys
  • F1: convergence presets (200, 400, 800, 1200). 1200 by default.

Recommendations
  • If you don't mind some extra installation steps, I recommend the Silent Hill 3 Audio Enhancement Pack. Which requires the Reloaded II tool, and the mod has to be in a folder inside "Reloaded-II\Mods". Then you can use Reloaded II to enable the mod and launch the game through there.

Notes
  • The game may randomly switch to 30fps instead of 60fps (not because of this fix).

  1. You can use the widescreen fix from ThirteenAG or Steam006 instead, which fixes the frame rate fluctuation.

    1. I had problems with those. Crashing alongside dgVoodoo and geo-11. That's why I suggest the other one.

  4. Thank you, sir. I was able to put everything in with your instructions. One thing I encountered that is not mentioned, is an issue with erratic in-game menus, I found a rather simple fix (hex editor solution) here: https://www.speedrun.com/sh3pc/forums/x7f8p#unxqq Hope it helps.
