Fallout 4 - 3D Vision Fix
by mike_ar69 and DHR
Updates
** 29 Nov 2015 - v2
- Fixed a few shader errors for reflections
- Removed the Power Armour HUD correction. This was playing havoc with several game elements: decals, bottles, lamps, test tubes, lighting shining through walls, reflections on glass.
Details
Fallout 4 fix which addresses:
- shadows
- lights
- most reflections
- water rendering
- moon/stars/clouds etc
- Right Mouse button makes convergence 5, and makes sniper scope work properly
- Convergence toggle (on the "[" key) for first and third person views (28 and 40 respectively)
Known issues
- HUD can not be properly fixed, it all breaks up when trying to adjust depth, and screws up lots of world elements, so its a compromise.
- Recommend turning in game cross-hair and in game markers OFF. Unfortunately Nvidia cross-air does not work properly in this game.
Installation
0. Start the game and setup your graphical preferences (low, medium, high etc), then close the game down
1. Download this file.
2. Extract the files into the Fallout4.exe directory
4. Open up the Fallout4Prefs.ini file found in "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Fallout4"
5. Set the following
- bComputeShaderDeferredTiledLighting=0
- bForceIgnoreSmoothness=0
- iPresentInterval=0
6. Save the file and then set it to Readonly
7. Open NVidia Control Panel and in the 3D Settings part, find Fallout 4 in the dropdown and set Vsync = ON
- The purpose of this is to resolve an issue of getting stuck at terminals
- If you don't have this issue, and the game runs better with VSync off, then try that
8. Play the game. It might take a minute to load first time while shaders get compiled and cached.
Special thanks to Flugan for his work on the assembler, used in this fix.
You're doing God's work.
ReplyDeleteThanks! iPresentInterval=0, is that to turn off vsync? Im curious why we need to disable the in-game vsync and enable it via control panel? (and ofc i followed instructions to the letter)
ReplyDeleteiPresentinterval is needed to uncap 30FPS (or at least it was when the game came out).
DeleteOk, i forgot about that problem. I didnt experience that problem myself and 120hz 3d vision worked with your beta fix without that particular tweak in 60fps. Better safe than sorry, so i keep it as instructed. Thanks again.
DeleteThank you so much! Just when I said to myself "hey, I should give it a try in 3D!"
ReplyDeleteThanks a TON mike_ar69 and DHR
ReplyDeleteI know this one has been hard to crack - I really appreciate your efforts.
You made a great game worth playin...
Thanks guys! You are The Best! :)
ReplyDeleteIs it me or are the shadows incorrect when i can modify the 2 characters at the start of the game?
ReplyDeleteThe shadows of the nose are in the left eye far left of the nose and in the right eye the shadow in under the nose... ROFL
Same for the neck and hair shadows..... I am NOT in Compatibility Mode. and i did set these settings aswell and READONLY also.
- bComputeShaderDeferredTiledLighting=0
- bForceIgnoreSmoothness=0
- iPresentInterval=0
6. Save the file and then set it to Readonly
Seems only the shadows are not correct...... Did i miss something?
No you have not done anything wrong :-) I will check that out, I noticed some similar things in the odd conversation scene.
DeleteI just created a new character and this problem is not happening to me. I will add an image to the blog post so you can see.
DeleteGot it fixed, but eehmmmm, annoying crosshair, i know, not your fault tho. but grrrrrrr. For me it is an big issue, just can't stand things they are sold like they work like a charm and slowly find out that most of it don't work. I gonna play it anywayz cause 1. i want to see it in 3D and 2. i played it already in 2D so it's okay, kinda know the crosshair now.
ReplyDeleteDisable crosshair. Go for Crit/pip boy or sneak sniper. Scope or vats.
DeleteNo thanks as this could be an easy fix by NVidia and game developpers.
DeleteDisabling stuff is not what i paid 600+ bucks for.... period
must be boycotted because lack of fixes by the developpers.
Except its not an easy fix. Bethesdasoft don't care about 3d AT ALL and they will do nothing to solve this. So the choice is to disable the cross hair, or not. If we find a way to isolate the crosshair and put it at depth without the hud falling to pieces then we will do so, but right now we have not managed it.
DeleteIf you really want the crosshair, a simple fix is to set the depth as low as it will go (so there essentially is none), and then crank up the convergence to create the 3d effect. The game will still be just as 3d looking and the crosshairs will fit in with the environment, but it might be harder on your eyes.
DeleteIf you don't know how to do this go to your NVIDIA control panel and under "Set up Stereoscopic 3d" click on set keyboard shortcuts, check the little box for "enable advanced in-game settings" and then set the increase convergence and decrease convergence to whatever keys you want. Then while you are in game lower the depth as low as it will go and then hold down the increase convergence button until the game is as 3d as you want it to be.
The trade off is that with convergence turned up the iron sights will no longer be practical to use. So you will have to decide which you prefer; crosshairs or ironsights.
@mike_ar69: Ignore our good friend "anonymous". He's coming on various threads and bitching and moaning about how our fixes disable effects and how it's just not right. He's too much of a pussy to actually go to the forum threads and discuss it there, where NVidia could actually see it, so eqzitara and I are just deleting his unhelpful comments. He never offers any solutions or suggestions, he's just here to rant.
DeleteI did send them an email as i already told, also i posted on 3DVisionlive and a possible way to fix crosshairs for developpers.
DeleteSo you can call me a pussy or whatever. no problem, i never call 1 of you something like that and this proofs that i was right al along. You delete my posts that has information in of a possibility how to approach it but nohooo, delete the post is the way to go, just as disabling shaders, like i said before, you do good job about the fixes, but when i say disabling i dont mean a fix, fixing is actually fix the shader and disabling is not fixing it, so most of the time we have to turn of things so im my eyes it's not fixing it, although i respect the try. So again, call me a pussy or whatever, i still stand by what i say, oh and by the way the comments were not unhelpfull. If you read https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/839133/3d-vision/fallout-4/9/ you see i post there aswell.
OK, cool, please keep posting there, you will reach a much larger audience for your views.
DeleteDo you know who we are? You seem confused that we have any power whatsoever.
I know you peeps don't have that powers, but maybe NVidia reads this aswell.
DeleteAnd i know that the depth comes from the convergence and wwhen come closer to a wall it changes, and the HUD cannot change so i know exactly what this is all about.
You guys try to fix whatever is fixable by shader hacking which is cool.
But i have feeling that game developpers and NVidia and companies like that has something like, "oh let the community fix it, prolly in some time there are some fixes". And that's what spins in my mind everytime. Not a big deal tho but if people spend so many money on it and find out how dissapointed it actually is, but somehow some fixes make games playable, well i'm sorry but i think that this may said on every forum/discussion/email or whatever way possible.
I for one am elated by this bug/feature of no crosshairs! I usually try to mod games to remove them, so it coming as a "feature" (thanks to Bethesda giving not a single crap about 3D) from you awesome heroes making this 3D fix just makes my Christmas!!! You guys are the best!
DeleteMr. Anonymous,
DeletePlaying games in 3D is about IMMERSION. Period.
There is none, nothing, anything immersive with crosshairs. Thats for kids.
Turn the damn crosshair off and stop bitching!
Thanks Mike!!
Do the NVidia 3D laser sight crosshairs through NVidia control panel not work in this game? I've used those in some FPS before and they were fine.
Delete@ Patrik -- read my post again, but this time without cynicism. It is totally NOT sarcastic. I genuinely am stoked that the side outcome of these heroes work in getting us these 3D vision fix for Fallout 4 is that you have to turn off crosshairs. I totally agree that there is nothing immersive about crosshairs, which is why I always turn them off in games (including finding mods to do so if necessary).
DeleteGods among men
ReplyDeletevery good job.
ReplyDeleteis there a way to turn off the hit markers? they are also out of position
there is an option in game, same as cross hair.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteIf you dont like the fix, don't use it. There is only so much we can do. But please DO NOT come on here complaining about the developers lack of support - we all know this which is why we are fixing stuff in the first place...
DeleteAs long you "fix"disabeling shaders, NVidia and game developpers never going to work.
DeleteIf they get the feeling no one buy it anymore, then they will step up.
Also this everybody knows.
Money in the pocket, why go on.. proof is there, see the fixes and HUDS and all disabled shaders. Name 3 game where all is perfect without any modified fixes... I can tell only 1 game and that's GTA V
@"anonymous": There isn't any money in 3D gaming at all. Your goal of boycotting until they come to their senses hurts only us. In general, game devs cannot be bothered with 3D and don't even know we exist, and don't care. So you have two choices. Use our less than ideal fixes, or don't play in 3D at all. It's not more complicated than that. I wish it was different, but that's the reality.
DeleteIf you want more background and speak to a larger audience than the few enthusiasts here- you REALLY need to use the NVidia 3D forums.
This comment section is for talking about a specific game fix, not general problems. Off topic stuff will be deleted, to keep it focused and helpful.
@"bo3b": There isn't any money in 3D gaming at all
DeleteIs that so? i can lookup my receipts of all the stuff i bought....
Sure it was not for free though...
Don't know how about your 3D stuff.
No seriously there is no money in 3d gaming, developers do not care, and small user base.
DeleteIf you don't think nvidia even cares enough to moderate on there own forums. Nvidia never once posted here and no developer has EVER posted here. We have been doing this for like 5+ years and before we did there were year(s) of one or two 3d "perfect" games. You seriously need to stop posting here now.
Leon:
ReplyDeleteStares at thy godly visage..... You!!!!! OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS STUFF....
It only uses some makeup remover.. That's about it
DeleteFor some reason, and I did things step by step... all I see is a lot of blue sky..... the game is running but all I see is blue sky. any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
ReplyDeleteI just checked compatibility mode just for ducts and it isn't available to turn on or off... is there something I can do with NVidia inspector?
DeleteYou need the latest driver for this game to work, especially if you are windows10. I had a similar problem.
DeleteWorked like a charm I was on 555 and new was 559 so I didn't bother but it fixed the issue getting 559... thank you :)
DeleteI wish my system was faster now... :( lol hoping tuning it down lower will let me play it... 3D spoils gamers I think...
me and anybody else who uses it... once you play 3D, anything else sucks... like unplayable sucks... probably because
our depth perception gets used to it so it makes 2d look like a piece of paper with a movie on it.... lol anyway thanks again....
I have the same problem almost everything is invisible.
DeleteLatest driver(gtx 770) didnt help. Ideas welcome.
AWESOME job as always ....could not play this before because it was flat and ugly...I play games in 3d only which would be next to none but for you guys here
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this fix! Being able to play this game in 3d makes all the difference and I definitely don't take it for granted!
ReplyDeleteAs for the crosshairs an easy fix for me was to scale down the depth as low as it will go and crank up the convergence to create the 3d effect. Game still looks great in 3d and the crosshairs now match the environment. The only trade off is that the iron sights are no longer usable with the convergence turned up, so you have to choose between using crosshairs or iron sights, which I don't really mind. It's still nice being able to switch between using crosshairs or iron sights depending on what weapon I'm using. I also don't know if it might break some of the effects and it might be harder on some people's eyes. But it looks great to me so far :)
Thanks again
You could use CTRL + F12 which turns on the stereoscopic crosshair. If you look good it tries to calculate the convergence related to what i think are colliders in the game or maybe a layer in the game engine where stacked all the needed colliders to respond to a somwhat 3D stereoscopic crosshair that changed convergenge/depth when teh crosshair is closer or further away from where you looking at at that specific moment. I did turned it off after a while as the gun has a good sight tho. But i completly agree with you. I saw that NVidia already tried to calculate this but then again i guess that in game there must be more areas/points for that to correct it flawlessly.
DeleteYou wwant to keep deleting my posts or want to ban me from here? go ahead... ban and delete posts from a legit person that came up with some solultions for game developpers and or NVidia. But noohoooo they dont care. All they do is deleting comments, thats what their time goes in to.
ReplyDeleteGO HERE TO TALK TO NVIDIA/DEVELOPERS
Deletehttps://forums.geforce.com/default/board/49/3d-vision/
THIS IS A MODDER SITE.. SERIOUSLY.
Glad to see you drop the "anonymous". I think you have us confused. We don't have any power over NVidia or game devs at all. Your "solution" results in absolutely nothing to play in 3D at all. Maybe you prefer the idealistic noble path of integrity where you show them you are serious by boycotting them until they wake up. But that results in exactly one scenario- nothing to play in 3D, at all. We aren't willing to accept that answer.
DeleteAgain- as eqzitara notes, use the forums. This isn't the place for your "solution", and you cannot convince us here. We don't run the NVidia forums, you can have free speech there.
Anonymous or not, still stays the same isn't it?
DeleteThank you for your amazing and tireless work. Because of you, we can live our dreams in 3D :)
ReplyDeleteCould you tell me please, would this fix be updated in time ? I'm waiting for mayor patches to come out first and then download good mods, and then download your amazing fix. I'm very patient. This is one of a kind game and deserves the best.
ReplyDeleteMaybe some of the issues that you have at the moment, would be overcome in time.
Thanks again for your wonderful work.
Hi - yes this fix will be updated over time, as game patches are released :-) That being said, I doubt much will change with this game, and certainly nothing to do with the HUD. We will continue to look at the hud and ways to improve it.
DeleteI am going to post an update shortly, based on some feedback, then to be honest I would say it's 95% as good as it going to get.
When do you think Bethesda will release mayor patch for Fallout ? I mean really big and fat :)
DeleteFirst DLC content probably.
DeleteIf your patient enough to wait till then just wait till last dlc. Will have a bundle on discount by then + game doesn't have official mod support yet.
TBH, every time I beat a game before season pass content comes out it just feels like a hassle to start playing again for most part and diminishes each content experience. Ill keep doing because I lack patience for most part but yea.. if you got the mental fortitude go for it.
TBH, I am like level 55 and I'm kind of like I don't need any more exp, I don't need more loot, I have best weapon, etc. This is pretty bad going into new DLC.
DeleteCan't complain because I've played like 80+ hours and loved it but I would loved to skip some of the stupid stuff I did and did story dlc instead.
I'm so thankful that we have places like this. HelixMod foreva :)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for working hard on this! Have been waiting to play this - I'm having an issue with the shadows - for example, when I look at the side of a rock or object, one eye shows a dark shadow, the other shows a texture - I went through and changed the .ini values, made it read only and they stay after computer reboots, and i set vsync on for the fallout 4 profile in nvidia - any other clues to help sort me?
ReplyDeleteThanks again... if it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't be enjoying games as much as I do now.... you rock.
Hi - the shadows not working are not affected by any of the pref.ini settings. If the shadows are wrong then either (a) something is wrong with the install or (b) I missed a few shaders. I do not think it is the latter. Can you be check that everything is installed in the correct directory e.g. in my case this is "D:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4"? If there is anyway you can get me a screenshot or savegame that would help. Also, please let me know your game settings (low, med high etc etc).
DeleteLooks great! Anybody else getting weird Xbox controller glitches after a few minutes? My view just kind of pans up to the ceiling, I start walking blindly forward, and all other buttons don't work.
ReplyDeleteDoes this happen only with the fix installed? I just noticed that I actually (inadvertently) removed an xbox override for convergence, so the fix is not doing anything now with the xbox controller.
DeleteYea it seems to happen only with the fix installed. I was able to get convergence looking right with your convergence toggle hotkey. Aiming down sites or through scopes doesn't really work but I can deal with that :) The rest of the controller glitches are just too weird. I uninstalled mod manager, disabled oculus driver, still starts drifting after about 30 minutes of play, but sometimes it instantly starts drifting. I have no idea.
DeleteHi, fix Сrashed on launch, d3d11.dll crashed game (((, when i delete d3d11.dll from dir, working again, any ideas?
ReplyDeleteNo idea unfortunately. What OS are you on - Win7, Win8 or Win10? Do you have any mods installed?
Deletewin10 x64, GTX970, mods not installed, sorry from my english, i Try different version of the driver, let you know...
DeleteHey Mike, I noticed in the d3dx.ini file, you have in it the line: 'proxy_d3d11=d3d11_ENB.dll' (although commented out), which I know is not the default for that line because that is coincidentally the same thing that I tried to get ENB working with this game. Unfortunately I was unable to get the 2 working together, whenever I try to chain load the ENB dll file like this, I get a "Fallout 4 has stopped working" error dialogue. If I load the ENB dll by itself, it runs fine, and loading your fix by itself loads fine as well, it's just the combination of the 2. Have you ever actually managed to get that working either with this fix, or any other Dx11 fixes before?
ReplyDeleteYeah Its working for me fine. I am only using the performance mod though, that I got from Nexus forums. Under Win7 I even had it all working with sweetfx, but under win10 (which I just upgraded to) sweetfx is not working, but ENB is still. To make it work you have to set 3DMigoto as a proxy in the ENB. ini file
DeleteI never got around to thanking you for this, that got it working. I actually tried doing that before on Win 7, but I *might* have forgotten to change the EnableProxyLibrary line to true, so no wonder it probably didn't work. :/
DeleteAnyway, as a way of saying thanks, I know you're also having issues with getting Reshade / SweetFX working on Win10, and I found the solution. Install some additional DirectX runtime libraries here and it should work: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylanguage=en&id=35
For me it said I already had the latest version, but it seems to still install some files because it got it working for me, when before it didn't work.
Hi mike_ar69, could you explain what exactly you did write into the proxy line, only proxylib=3DMigoto ? I thought it applies to .dll files?
DeleteThanks guys, great work as usual! Game looks fantastic in 3D.
ReplyDeleteNow if only I could get consistently over 40 fps. I get drops to 20 on low settings, have to switch to 2D. I have tried every perf tweak available. Hopefully SLI support soon...
- 5760x1080, 970 SLI FTW, 4770k, 16GB
I think with surround resolution you will suffer withiut SLI. I force AFR=2 in nvidia control panel and I DEFINITELY get an improvement (I did some benchmarking). The nvidia 3dvision forums also has some details on this as well, dx10 flags that can be set in Nvidia inspector.
DeleteI had tried that earlier without noticeable effect but I will try it again with the performance mod from Nexus forums. I tried it before but forgot about the proxy thing so it caused issues. I have also tried many different SLI bits... (it is killing me to play in 2D) :)
DeleteThanks
ReplyDeleteHello, thanks for the great work. I've installed this as recommended, windows 10 pro x64, nvidia latest driver, 359.06, I'm seeing reflections on water on the ground that stand out, as well as any wet/watery reflections that have any light that hits them. any suggestions?
ReplyDeletehi - i am not seeing that, so our settings must be different and I may have missed it. can you privide a list of all your settings from the setup dialog, in particular if you have "wetness" and "screen space reflections"? I do know that some reflections are off, I made a correction for them, but its likely that I did not fix all the shaders and a save game would help greatly to track that one down.
DeleteThis is awesome, thank you sooooo much. You made my day
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome, thank you sooooo much. You made my day
ReplyDeletety
ReplyDelete1 patch 3d vision for Dragon qyuest heros please ? ^^
Thanks Mike and DHR.
ReplyDeleteAfter playing for the first few weeks in 2D and now the past week in 3D, this adds a lot to the game.
Great work!
Hey! Thanks very much for the fix, as always you are making my life a little bit better :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks really fantastic! but I have a problem when loading saves in almost all exteriors, maybe related due high load, I get a CTD just when the loading time finishes everytime.
I've found some things:
- I tried without your fix with 3Dvision enabled and the issue is still there, with 3dvision disabled the same save loads great and fast (I have a two SSD raid0).
- Using fast travel to these huge exterior areas loads ok, only crashes when loading a save.
- Tried different version drivers (358.87 and 359.06) and one thing curious is I can load f. ex. a savefile in Diamond City when i just installed a clean drivers, then if I go to another huge place and try to load again the save in Diamond City it will not load anymore and CTD.
My sistem runs a GTX980, i7 3770 and 16GB RAM and the game ever runs smooth with everything at ultra.
Tried everything I can realise, searched for logs but theres nothing to see, is anybody experiencing such crashes??
Anyway, thanks very much for your effort :D
I am getting same crashes when loading a save game. Happens when in the commonwealth never in the interior areas. I know skyrim had a debug log you could enable idk if FO4 has same thing, havent found anything yet
DeleteChange lines in Fallout4.ini to look like this
Delete[Papyrus]
bEnableLogging=1
bEnableTrace=1
bLoadDebugInformation = 1
That should enable logging
Thanks! I'll give a try ;)
Deletesame problem with crash to desktop on loading outdoor area saves in 3D mode - interior areas don't crash. All saves load correctly when 3d is disabled in nvidia control panel.
DeleteHey,
ReplyDeleteNice to see people working on fixes. :)
I have problems. I can't get the 3d to be activated when I start the game. Followed the guide fully. I have:
-Samsung 3D TV, active
-Windows 10 x64
- msi GTX 970 Gaming
- Latest Nvidia driver
Have I done something wrong? Do I need to make a profile or something. Call of duty advanced warfare starts 3D when it starts up, I know it is supporting 3D out of the box. But should it work the same as Fallout 4.?
Thanks in advance.
Make sure the game is not staring in "windowless" mode. It MUST be full screen for this game.
DeleteOtherwise, I am not sure, but No you do not need to change profiles etc.
I found the problem. Not your fix at all. Thanks for all the work!
DeleteI had to install Nvidia 3DTV software to be able to play 3D games, doh!
first off. Thank you for all your work. love having this in 3d.
ReplyDeleteone question though is how exactly do I save my convergence present for aiming down sight? I have tried holding down right mouse button, setting convergence, and initiating "save preferences" unfortunately when I return to hip fire ads returns to what it was before (aka aiming preference won't save).
Thank you again for all your hard work.
Hi, find this part of the d3dx.ini file:
Delete[Key1]
Key = RBUTTON
convergence = 5
w = 1
type = hold
Change the value of "convergence" (smaller will make it look flatter and further away, higher will make it closer).
Honestly, you just need to experiment with a value to get it right.
You can make it ieasier though if you find the line "hunting = 0", and chnage that to "hunting=1", then when you start the game you will see the separation and convergence on screen at the bottom :-) Change the convergence to what you want it to look like, then note down the convergence value displayed and put that value in the d3dx.ini file as described above. Before playing the game again, be sure to set "hunting=0" again, else you will lose about 20 FPS.
thanks again for your help.
DeleteHello. I have a quick question. Can someone help me out with steps I may be missing? I'm using Nvidia 3DTV Play for my 3D gaming. As far as I can tell, I am supposed to just enable the 3D through the control panel and apply the Helix Mod to the directory and follow instructions on a per game basis. When I run a game, the red text on the screen tells me that I'm not in a compatible 3D mode. I change the resolution to 1280x720 at 60hz, and the red text error message goes away. However I'm not able to see any 3D effect. The supported games on Nvidia's list work well, but any Helix mod I try does not do anything at all. I followed the instructions for several games including Fallout 4, The Cave, Alien Isolation, Castlevania Lords of Shadow Ultimate Edition and Injustice, Gods Among Us. I can't get any of them to work. The hot keys in game do not do anything either. Can someone help me? Thanks a lot.
ReplyDeleteBest bet will be to go to the NVidia 3D forums to ask this question.
Deletehttps://forums.geforce.com/default/board/49/
Make sure that 3D is working before you add any helix mod. You should be able to see the double image. Alien Isolation is a good one to concentrate on first, as it's got the fewest unusual problems.
Ok, I figured out that even though I thought it was, true full screen was not enabled. I got a few games working properly. I'm having a problem with Fallout 4 though. The 3D is working when I enter the game. But I can't start the game because the menu is all screwed up. Most of it is cut out and the mouse cursor only moves on a small portion of the screen. Anyone else have this?
DeleteThanks for the reply too!
I'm experiencing a game crash after selecting my game save to load. Anyone else have this issue?
ReplyDeleteYes, I do. And few other guys (just search for "crash" on this page). AFAIK there is no solution for this except to disabling 3D Vision in nVidia Control Panel. Then your savegame will load just fine. If you manage to find interior area somewhere near, just get into it and save. Then you can re-enable 3D, load your interior save and go explore. Game won't crash for some time...
DeleteYeah - just another "anonymous" for the time being.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm defeated. Temporarily, I hope. I've used the Helix mods with complete success several times before, but not today. Not on Fallout 4.
Firstly, I've got to ask the requisite stupid question: I'm supposed to add the contents of the .rar file to the directory in which my fallout4.exe is in, yes. However, in this case, the contents of the .rar is a folder. So, here it comes ...does the folder go into the fallout4.exe or -the contents- of that folder? Common sense tells me it supposed to be the folder contents, but common sense has failed me before.
Nonetheless, no matter which way I try it, the effects are NEVER seen. I still have clouds that appear to be a few feet over my head and crazy shadows floating all over the place, much like I am running the game right out of the box, so to speak.
Windows 7 SP2 64bit, I5-3570k 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, gtx 970.
Helix Mod was an instant fix and relief for Fallout New Vegas and others.
I did follow the instructions to add the lines to the /user/... directory file and write protect it, even setting Vsync ON (it did alleviate the hang I encountered at the first terminal I needed to hack).
So, there's something basic I'm missing here ...somebody have a better view of the forest than my just seeing the trees?
No, just drag and drop all items out of the .rar into the game folder. Leaving the ShaderFixes folder as a folder inside the game folder. The way this works is that the d3d11.dll needs to be a peer of the fallout4.exe. It's loaded when the game is launched. If it's not a peer, the game will use the System32 version and we don't get to fix.
DeleteThe ShaderFixes is used as a folder by the d3d11.dll. If it's missing, no shaders are fixed.
Yes, yes, of course, that does make perfect sense. Now I see that when I 'un'rar'ed the original file, the software created another, new folder, which I mistakenly took to be part of the original work. In the morning I will create a fully new installation. Thanks greatly!
DeleteYes, now after a fresh install, things are MUCH better. I do have to pull back the depth almost to zero to get the tree shadows to "lay down." Then finding the right convergence brings back the 3D. Clouds still seem awfully close to treetop level but they don't suffocate the scenery.
ReplyDeleteThe fix is still not installed correctly then. Shadows are perfect at 100% depth when the fix is working, as is the sky.
DeleteMike, I kind of suspected that. Gotta put on my thinking cap here. files went into the k:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\ directory, which is where Fallout4.exe resides.
DeleteI deleted the \(user)\ ...Fallout4 directory as well as the directory above, then deleted all local files before I re-downloaded the entire Fallout 4 file set. Ran the program until choosing "High" graphics then hit EXIT and moved the Helix files into the Fallout4.exe directory, made changes to \(user)\ ...\Fallout4\Fallout4Prefs.ini and locked the file.
Is there perchance somewhere else that the game places files? Nothing 'cached' that is borking the works? More looking around ...
The application of the Fix is not actually affected by the Fallout4Prefs.ini file except for the disabling of compute shaders. This is what my Fallout 4 directory looks like:
DeleteC:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4
\_CommonRedist
\Data
\Fallout4
\ShaderFixes
Fallout4.exe
d3dll.dll
d3dcompiler_46.dll
d3dx.ini
nvapi64.dll
uninstall.bat
And inside \ShaderFixes are all the ".txt" fix files.
Mike, thanks.
ReplyDeleteYes, precisely as my directory appears, with the following exceptions:
1. There is a \ShaderCache folder, which is empty
2. In the \ShaderFixes directory, each .txt file has what I assume are corresponding assembled files. For example, the very first file in \ShaderFixes is
0a8f791612058b42-ps.txt
and there also now exists:
0a8f791612058b42-ps_reasm.txt
0a8f791612058b42-ps_reasm.bin
etc. for the rest of the original .txt files.
except for the xxxxxxxx-vs_replace.txt files, which only have a corresponding .bin file
I see that there is also, in the Fallout4.exe directory, a "Fallout4_Default.ini" file, which contains the entry "iPresentInterval=1" ...I saw another post explaining that this would only affect fps anyway.
A real mystery indeed.
Hi - yeah I have a ShaderCache directory too, but you don;t need to worry about that. The ShaderFizes folder is all good, the ".bin" files are compiled, and the ".reasm" files are re-assembled assembly files (in this game I fix shadows using the assembly files, not the HLSL files).
DeleteDo you get a d3d11_Log.txt file? If there is one there, can you delete it and check that a new one gets created? And if it does, open it up in Notepad++ or something and search for all instances of the word "error", to see what might be going wrong.
Another thing to try is to edit the d3dx.ini file and set "hunting=1", then you should see on screen the green text (which can be toggled off using the Numpad-0 key).
One thing that happened to me recently is that I started the game one day and all the stereo corrections were in the "wrong direction" - so shadows stuck out of the screen etc. I had to do a DDU uninstall of the driver, and a fresh re-install to get it back to normal.
You could also look to emptying the Nvidia ShaderCache. Go here and delete the contents:
C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\Temp\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache
Then in Nvidia Control Panel turn of shadercache for Fallout4.
What driver version are you on? I am running out of suggestions...
Mike, I can't believe I forgot to note my driver version: 361.43 and I did use the "Clean Install" option, or whatever the NVidia GUI called it in the 'custom' section. HOWEVER, I just downloaded the DDU software, JUST IN CASE there's still some stuff floating around and I'll try that in a few minutes!
DeleteI had no d3d11_Log.txt file. After the 'cleaner' driver install, if issues persist, I'll try the 'hunting=1' angle and continue from there.
So weird what you saw that day, with the flipped stereo corrections! But I've been around software and computers for more years than I can remember, lol, and do recall that we had to protect microchip design and production from alpha particles wreaking havoc with stored, single bit, cell data, so darn near anything can happen and often we WON'T ever be able to know the cause.
The ...\NV_Cache folder did have some files, but they only seemed to have to do with browser functions - wouldn't let me delete them until I closed Firefox. I did turn off shadercache, a few moments ago, just to be sure.
Thanks greatly for the attention ...you'll never know how many folks appreciate what you've been doing with the 3D software! I truly wish more people would embrace 3D immersion - that way, you might even get paid well for your efforts!
I don't believe it, I just don't believe it. And hadn't learned my lesson, apparently. File removal using DDU has COMPLETELY solved the problem! Three different driver version installs, using the nVidia 'clean install' just wasn't as "clean" as one would wish. It's been a couple of years since I've used a third party uninstaller for the graphics drivers, but in this case, there were apparently a few things left (in registry, I assume) that were disrupting your changes, on my system.
DeleteLovely looking game, as you had corrected it to be! No more shadows floating a couple of feet off the ground - the 3D sure made that obvious. And the sky doesn't feel like an Independence Day craft hovering overhead ...
Thanks greatly for the reminders and suggestions!
Great news :-) Now go wipe out a few Super Mutants...
DeleteThank you for making this! It works great on its own.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I have to use ENBoost with this game or else I get low-res textures (I don't care about the graphical enhancements of ENB, but the memory boost feature is quite necessary for me.)
The problem is that when I use helix mod in combination with ENB, the game becomes unplayable, as there are often what appear to be different shaders running in each eye. (One eye will have much darker shadows, while the other eye does not. Or certain decals/reflections will only appear in one eye.)
Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you!
Not sure - I was using it without problems right up until I upgraded to Windows 10 (and now none of those things work in win 10 for me). Have you tried an earlier version that does not have shadowboost in it?
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about this too. I tried the ENBoost (http://enbdev.com/download_mod_fallout4.htm) and it seemed to really help performance for me but it breaks the 3d vision fix. I'm assuming because the ENBoost comes with it's own d3d11.dll and d3dcompiler_46.dll files that are needed to run it which replace the ones that come with the fix. In its current state it appears only one of these can be run at a time which really is a shame...
ReplyDeleteHi, you CAN run both at the same time, I was doing just that under Windows 7. Do the following:
Delete- Rename the d3d11.dll that comes with this fix to, say, d3d11_3dmigoto.dll
- In ENB.ini, enable the proxy library thing and enter d3d11_3dmigoto.dll as the proxy
Then it should work.
You can also specify proxies in the 3Dmigoto d3dx.ini file, but in this case the ENB library must be loaded first else it won't work, hence doing it the way I mention above.
Hmmm, so I tried this and it doesn't seem to be working (I am running win 7, btw). In the enb ini (called enblocal.ini) I changed the [PROXY] section to:
Delete[PROXY]
EnableProxyLibrary=true
InitProxyFunctions=true
ProxyLibrary=d3d11migoto.dll (I also tried entering the entire path here, C:\program files (x86)\....)
I renamed the d3d11.dll file from the 3d vision fix to d3d11migoto.dll. Tried it out and I'm still getting wonky shadows. Does it matter which d3dcompiler_46.dll file I use?
I see that you mentioned above that this ENBoost has shadowboost included? I actually separately installed a standalone shadowboost fix... could this be where my issue is coming from?
Interesting. Is the skybox/clouds fixed? If they are then the migoto fix myst be loading.
DeleteDefinitely try removing shadow boost to test that out as well. I will try and verify this later, but not having win 7 anymore is quite the pain, so I might not be able to...
No, the skybox and clouds weren't being rendered properly either. But after I removed the standalone shadowboost fix everything worked great! so that must have been the culprit. I REALLY appreciate your help! It runs pretty damn well. I'm getting significantly improved performance now with 3D enabled. It's been quite a journey getting this game to run well but now I think I'm at a point where I can actually play through it and being bothered by poor graphics quality or crippling frame rate issues.
DeleteGreat news - have fun with it :-)
Deleteooooh ok, very cool! Can't wait to try it out, thanks for the tip!

ReplyDelete[win7-64 (updated), 970x2SLI with 355.98 (for GTA5), 24Gb, i7950]
ReplyDeleteHello, 3DV guys, I've just purchased and installed F4, set up my gfx preferences (ultra), then I quit and followed, letter by letter, your instructions, three times
yet, 3DV fix is not working:
- what I get is a whitish/blueish backdrop, and
- no Steam overlay
of course, if I remove the fix, the game works normally
please, what am I missing?
thanks
Marco
3DV is
I'm sorry, I have noticed that the issue does not depend on the fix: 3D vision does not work at all, it must be set off, to have the game working ?! ........
Deletenevermind, and sorry for asking too hastily, when the solution is to update Nvidia drivers
Deletethanks once again for keeping up with your fixes my will to play games
Hey I noticed that steam overlay stopped working with this fix, too. I need it to use the steam controller. Did you ever find a fix?
DeleteHas anyone figured out how to move the weapon model in the crafting bench menu so it's not deeper than the blur effect?
ReplyDeletemike_AR69 and DHR, thank you for this 3D fix. You're doing the lord's work here, please keep it up and know you are appreciated. Playing this and it looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHi guys, thanks soo much for this amazing work!! I recently built a new computer. My old one with win 7 worked great w Fallout 4 in 3d, but with my new build I'm having problems.
ReplyDelete6700k, win 10, 980ti, 1440p, 2 samsung 850 evo ssd drives.
Most recent drivers. I'm crashing about every 10 minutes, more directly the nvidia driver says it crashes every 10 minutes or so. Inside or outside. When not in 3d it doesn't crash I can play for hours. Other games in 3d don't crash. Any suggestions?
Ok, well Mad Max seems to be having a similar issue in 3d.. Few other games I have tried so far are ok..
DeleteJust use the previous driver you know works. Drivers matter very little unless playing a game that just came out.
DeleteMake sure to do CLEAN INSTALL just in case.
When I played before, and it worked, it was on my older computer with Windows 7. I build this new computer a few days ago and am having this problem, windows 10.. Anyone having better luck with an older driver with windows 10? Other than that I can try some older drivers randomly I suppose.
DeleteThis is not a terrifically useful answer, but I uninstalled windows 10 after having too many issues with 3d vision games.
Delete@stephenbank well I'll take any suggestion to play this game.. Maybe I should look into getting another SSD drive and setting up a dual boot situation with windows 7 on it.. That way I won't have to switch my 980ti back and forth between old and new computers....

ReplyDeleteGood day,good sir :)
ReplyDeleteI've been patiently waiting for first major patch to come out before I try your amazing mod and play Fallout. It's really difficult to wait for such glorious game you know :P
I was wondering, what chances are for some good update of your latest work. To incorporate latest features that came with latest patch 1.3
What is the state of your mod ? Have you played Deus Ex Human revolution Directors cut in 3D ? Would you consider that a good game in 3D ? I think it was amazing.
Thank you for your time
Hey THANKS.. and THANKS for all your or your guys hard work.. really thank you. You even talk to the ones that give you grief. BOW
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2aPYMY-EA
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your passionate work for us all forgotten 3D vision clients of nvidia. We love you. The game looks amazing in 3D compare to 2D. God Bless you guys.
ReplyDeletefallout 4 just updated a patch over 900meg and now this amazing mod I just found two days ago doesn't work, devs are messed up, kill our perfectly harmless fun. I was looking forward to f4 replay in 3D. ugh.
ReplyDeletebut at least I got to taste it lol,
Thanks for the heads up. I can't look at it right now but will make it a priority when I have time in the next few weeks.
DeleteIt works here hmm....
DeleteTBH, if it was messed up a lot more people would be talking about it.
Deleteyeah, still works for me. Amazing in 3d.
DeleteTried loading today, crashed right to desktop. Have not played in a few weeks after going to windows 10 I have not been able to get it to work. Before recent DLC I could play for about 5 minutes. But after DLC instant crash to desktop. Do I have to re install fix or ini after dlc?
DeleteJust chiming in that dlc didn't cause me any issues (although i have not actually started any dlc content yet, but it is in my game). I run windows 7 as i wasn't getting 3d working right in any game with windows 10.
DeleteMike and DHR, your fix turns this great game into pure awesomeness. it's a joy to play it.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your great work with this.
Just curious, I'm trying to follow the guides on the net to increase the FOV but I'm not sure it works. Is there somethign in your fix preventing changes to the .ini files, or FOV changes in general? I changed it from 70 to 90 and then to 120 and I'm not sure I see a difference. Usually, even at 90 I can see clear image distortion at the borders, but no here.
Ah yes, another thing. The Steam overlay does not seem to work when the fix is active, so there is some blocking of normal processes. Maybe this is the cause why the FOV change in the ini is not acknowledged?
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!! ALWAYS THE BEST!!!! hope you do a lot of money with your skills and nvidia calls you for better developing (finally) :D
ReplyDeleteFix is working quite right here. Awesome work, as always in this web.
ReplyDeleteThe bad thing is that my fps are too low in order to maintain a good game experience. I oscilate between 20 and 35 fps. To watch environment is ok, but in gunfight (adding the no crosshair handicap) I don't kill a shit xD
Some advices to improve my fps rate? In 2d I'm having 60+ fps in ultra (but shadow distance and god rays decreased)
I have 2 gtx680 in SLI and an i7 920 @3.8ghz. SLI is working quite well either in 2D and 3D btw.
Your system is rather outdated but lowering shadows to medium helped me with my 2x980tis.. outside in the wasteland my fps drops to 30s-40s so yeah the game optimization isn't that good, check your gpu utilizations. Good Luck.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteDoes this fix also work with AMD or just Nvidia? Anything special I need to add?
ReplyDeleteNVidia 3d vision.
DeleteI followed all directions and then when I load the game, I have a black screen with my mouse icon spinning. I left it for 15 minutes) to do it's thing but it does nothing. I had a similar issue with DA Inquisition but eventually it loaded. 3d is on, but there is no way to turn it off. If I load the game with 3d off, it loads instantly. Any one had this problem before and got it working?
ReplyDeleteI entirely wiped my graphics driver like one of the users above, but my issue was not fixed. Thanks in advance.
Update: I uninstalled the wrapper, and tried the game and it works in 3d with all the shadows broken. This means that the wrapper is causing my game to freeze on load.
ReplyDeleteOK I think I found a fix!!! (hopefully helpful to others experiencing the same issue).
DeleteI have 2 monitors, one 3d, one not 3d. I disabled the non-3d monitor and loaded the game and it seems to be working in 3d and with fix working!
Do you have also a mod for Nvidia 3d Vision 2? I've got some problems with the distance and the shadows. Somethings went wrong. Instantly i take all the spezial features off, but nothing works :-( Thx for helping me.
ReplyDeleteNo difference between 3D Vision 1 and 2, same software. Only difference is the glasses are bigger lenses.
DeleteMaybe try doing a driver reinstall using DDU.
What do you mean with DDU?
ReplyDeleteLet me Google that for you.
DeleteGreat Mod
ReplyDeleteI extracted the files into the EXE Folder and followed the steps, but I am not getting any luck to make this work.
ReplyDeleteYou'll need to provide more info than that. Does it crash? Not load? Does it work without the fix installed? What did you already try?
DeleteWe can't make any suggestions when you give zero information. The fix works for other people, so obviously it's something unique to your situations.
the fix cannot be compatible with "Load Accelerator"plug-in,
ReplyDeleteif i change this in d3dx.ini
[System]
;proxy_d3d9=d3d9_helix.dll
proxy_d3d11=d3d11aaa.dll
game won't start
(d3d11aaa.dll is Load Accelerator's dll,it will Automatically disable VSYNC at loading screen to reduce the load time)
It seems natural that disabling the helix mod dll and enabling the load accelerator dll wouldn't work too good.
Delete(Sorry for my English) This mod with enb are seems not compatible in Mod Organizer. :(
ReplyDeletenor even nexus modmanger
DeleteYes it works fine without any mod manager...
DeleteI think the d3dcompiler_46.dll file is crashing with MO (don't know about NMM)
Maybe I should wait for Vortex mod manager?
Should be no difference for that file, we don't modify the d3dcompiler_46.dll, we just need it to compile shaders. If you think the game needs a special one, then when you install the fix, don't allow it to overwrite the game version. We don't need any special version, so using theirs will work.
DeleteOK even it's not the file's problem, but still crashing with MO...
Deletethank you works great. Except my NVidia 3D crosshair works!
ReplyDeleteYou guys rocks !
ReplyDeleteAbout the UI / crosshair problem, have you though about using a mod like this one : http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10654/?
With this, every piece of the UI can be modified independantly... Maybe are they on different shader or... I don't know... It's an idea :)
Hi sorry for comming up with the same issue as some posters before.3dmigoto and enb (latetst version) dont work togehter.
ReplyDeleteWin10 aniversary
Nexus modmanger
My settings are:[PROXY]
EnableProxyLibrary=true
InitProxyFunctions=true
ProxyLibrary=d3d11migoto.dll
also a d3d11.log file did not get generated.
Both work if installed by its own.
Does anybody have it working? Pls be so kind to help..
noone uses enb?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fix! I've been using it with SBS/TAB option in 3Dmigoto. It only seems to work with the version of 3dmigoto mentioned here (https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/912552/3d-vision/modifying-3d-vision-to-support-sbs/post/4946169/#4946169). The newest one causes the game to crash at launch.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you fix is much less taxing graphics-wise compared to Tridef's profile!
Has somebody tried changing FOV ins Fallout4Prefs.ini:
ReplyDelete[Display]
fDefaultWorldFOV=95
fDefault1stPersonFOV=95
to higher values (90 is standard i think)? Somehow this really bites into fps, while reducing Sli utilization. Why does it influence utilization in the first place?
Has somebody succeeded in using SweetFX with the 3d Fix yet? It always crashes on startup sadly.
ReplyDeleteSort of. Try this. Rename the 3dmigoto d3d11.dll to d3d9.dll and put in install directory as usual. Put in sweetfx files with the 3dmigoto files(after rename the d3d11 in this mod to d3d9). Then start the game. I get one incredible look. Functions to reload felix shaders doesn't seem to work but looks great.
DeleteDoes this fix work with the new high-resolution textures?
ReplyDeleteanyone try it with the high-res textures?
ReplyDeleteShould work. Why don't you try it? If you do, please let us know if works or does not.
DeleteIt does I am using it :-)
DeleteYes it works i am using high res textures and works great.
DeleteOk, i been working with this mod for some time. I am running windows 10. When i use this alone i can reload shaders using function + f10 and makes beeping sound letting me know they are loading. Now i been experimenting on how to get this working with sweetfx reshade and not sure how to tell if its working. Seems to have same 3d effect and sweetfx reshade seems to enhance it with great effect. Problem is, how do i know if the helix part is working or not? Reloading shaders doesn't make a sound but they still compile into bin files in the shaderfixes folder. My microsoft visual is updated and have visual studio 2012. It actualy seems like the shaders are working with sweetfx but the set control functions in the d3dx are not. So how do i tell? I could post a screenshot somehow to show you. What seems to work is in the sweetfx global settings i added this line:
ReplyDelete#define Reshade_ProxyLibrary 3DMigoto //Set the key proxylibrary to be used
In the d3dx file i added under chain load with Crosire.dll
I get one incredible effect but how do i know if the helix part is chain loading the shaders?
I got it to work with sweetfx reshade on windows 10. Put the files in main directory from this mod as said in description. Launch game and let it compile shaders. Then save and leave game. Then rename the d3d11 in this mod to: 3Dmigoto-d3d11.dll
ReplyDeleteThen add the files from sweetfx reshade. Launch the game. So far works perfect. Seems to make 3dmigoto load after sweetfx that way it still compiles effect right. Works great for me so far. Maybe someone else can try it this way and let me know.
For whatever reason as of today I can no longer make new saves or save over old files... I tried deleting some in windows in case the was a limit of saves but that did not seem to fix the problem.. Any one else run into this? Using windows 10 home 64 bit... Files are not marked as read only although folders are, and removing read only does not seem to stick.. Yesterday I could save fine..
ReplyDeleteOk i found the problem, it was Bitdefender. If your using Bitdefender antivirus (especially 2018 version) this might happen to you.. It was blocking the modifications of save files since they are in my users directory. Anyone with this issue has to go into bitdefender and take the application out of safe files section or whatever it is called.
DeleteJust noting that I played this over the free weekend, and the mod is still looking perfect. On both Win10 and Win7. Driver 388.59.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteCan someone help please - since I've updated 3D fix manager to the version where we had different profiles for TV/Projector/Monitor, my Fallout 4 is running super slow. I have 2 x 1080 TI in SLI, playing in 4K and 3D vision, and used to get +-47 FPS outside, now I only get 17 FPS. Noticed GPU utilisation is only around 60% per card. Used to be 99%. If I press Ctrl+T and turn off 3D vision, I get 60FPS and 99% utilisation. What happened with this update?
PS I've today updated to the most recent 3d fix manager and still got this problem.
Thanks,
G
Probably the profile that 3D Fix Manager is installing does not include SLI bits. Report it as a bug on the 3D Fix Manager page, and Paul will likely take a look. Meanwhile, you can always do a manual install of the fix, following the instructions on this page.
DeleteHi, in case anyone has the same issue, after some research, I believe this SLI profile doesn't work with the specific combination of 3D Vision, 2160p, GTX 1080 (or 1080 ti) in SLI. However, changing DX11 SLI compatibility bits to 0x080120F5 (Deus Ex: Mankind Divided) fixed this issue for me. The Battlefield 1 profile also worked. I'm getting 100% utilisation on 1 card, and 92% on the other...but I think this is because I'm waiting for a second SLI flexible cable (I have 2 different 1080 Ti's, as needed an AIO watercooled card as one of them due to case temp issues)
Deletei cant find the sbs option anymore any tips
ReplyDeleteShould work with this game. However, this game uses an older version of 3Dmigoto that did not have the feature.
DeleteYou'll want to merge in the latest version of 3Dmigoto, and also merge in the needed settings in the d3dx.ini file. You need the settings in the current fix, because it specifies what shaders to change, and you need the sbs settings in the latest 3Dmigoto for it to work. Copy/paste will work, but if you want to have more confidence use a merge tool.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteDoes enboost work without breaking the textures and fix?. Id really like to get it working but its definitely breaking the shaders just copying the files over. Cant find any other post's/information on FO4 3D vision and enboost/enbseries.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
Hard to say. ENB typically modifies the shaders as well, and so anything we might require to fix 3d glitches can be overridden by his shaders for graphic effects. Or vice versa. Software wise, they should both work at once, but there is a fundamental conflict on which shaders will take precedence. In theory, it would be possible to also take his shaders and fix the 3d glitches they cause, but that would require someone to make the effort for this extra-niche case.
DeleteOn Enboost, does it actually improve performance? I'd measure this before and after first, to be sure it was worth it. Doing a quick search, it doesn't seem to make any difference on more modern hardware.
hi i hope u all r fine.i am not able to change 3d output from like normal 3d to reverse 3d.any idea???
ReplyDelete
